JimmyZip
I am wondering what the difference is in these two pistols? Aren't the barrels the same length? What is it? Why no 17L on the approved list?
a.roberts
17L has a 6" barrel. Also, it doesn't fit the box. 34 does.

Noximus03
If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the 17L slide weight more than the 34's? Either way, still a tad too much length for a production gun.

For a 6" gun to be at it's best it needs to offer the longer sight radius of a 6" but be lightened to the point that it handles like a 5". The Glocks just feel like a 5" gun with more weight on the end of them which is why I think you see quite a few 24's get bought and sold on here. They need some lightening to make them ideal for this game.
JimmyZip
Then I think I need to try a 34. I do like my 17, but thought I would get another to mess with the trigger a bit from stock, and put the same sights as my 17. I want it for production. Braxton1
The 17L is only legal in Open, USPSA Limited Minor, and L-10 Minor. It isn't legal for USPSA Production because it doesn't fit the box, where the G-34 is almost perfect for that Division.
Noximus03
I would agree...the 34 is damn near perfect for production.
