GSRswapandslow
So i'm not a fan of the factory hard-chromed frame...at all... I'm getting one of my 1911's coated this upcoming weekend and was thinking while my guys going at it on the 1911, maybe I could get the match frame done as well. So has anyone done it, yet? Any advice on stripping or prepping for cerakote? The guns already stripped down, awaiting new parts and for me to finish polishing others....so it'd be a good time for it to happen
RIIID
You strip the finish off in an Muratic acid bath or you cold run it through a blast cabinet to roughen up the finish so the new finish can adhere to it better. Rich
Nealio
Thats too bad you are down on the hard chrome. Its durable as all hell.
GSRswapandslow
it's not horrible....just...well, not my style. i really wish someone made micarta grip panels for these guns....i hate the factory rubber grips, and i'm not paying $120 for some aluminum ones lol
mjc1677
I second the blasting method. I just blasted a friends Caspian frame and slide so he could DuraCoat it. Came out great looking.
Qbert
I wish the slide and barrel were hard chromed too!
