Any reason for a 9mm 1911?

hmm,

all of this, and only ONE don't bother post. Interesting. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to just come up with a really awesome light 45 load, and spring down. That way I can save on mags, guns, time in changing. It seems to me that I can load 45 for about 15C a piece, maybe less if I come up with a lighter Clays load.

I really like the idea of having one platform though, and might just get myself a 9mm 1911 as a birthday present to me. Is the Spartan good enough, or will I wish I got the Trojan?

I sure enjoy shooting my Springfield Loaded Target 9mm now and then! ;)

Also, people have finished in the top 3 at the single stack nationals with a minor gun. It's not as much of a disadvantage in the other divisions, because having ten rounds instead of eight can come in handy in some cases.

I love shooting my Spartan so much that I shot single stack minor all summer long.

Yeah, the Spartan is enough, I owned a Trojan and I can't really say the under-cut trigger guard and ramped barrel is really worth the extra $400 seeing as the Spartans are so nice... Honestly, if I get another 9mm 1911 I just might try to find an inexpensive 9mm RIA Tactical that's fit together pretty well and add an STI trigger, EGW fire-control bits, and Aftec. I dig the Warren/Sevigny fixed sights much more than the usual Bo-Mar anyway so for me I'd end up with a gun more my taste for even less. Many guys have good luck with the Springfieds as well. YMMV.

They're really fun to shoot and I wouldn't want to sway you from trying one, just know that they can be a PITA sometimes to get to run, and even when they're dialed once mag/recoil springs that are working start to weaken they can start to hiccup again... in general a .45 1911 is just a lot easier to deal with is all.

If you search this section for "9mm 1911" it won't take long after skimming threads to see that there sometimes can be a significant amount of effort involved if you're looking to have one of them run consistently.

I have a SA 9mm 1911 Stainless Loaded Target and have zero complaints about it. In fact, only had one failure to eject in 8,200 rounds. Had a trigger job done (3lbs.) and bigger FO front sight, and VZ Slim Line Grips. Had the gun bead blasted to a matte finish. Shoot it in IDPA ESP and USPSA SS minor. The gun is very accurate. Use Tripp 10 round mags and also Shooting Star 9 round mags (no problems with the mags or feeding). I use 115gr, Berry Plated FMJ HB bullets, 3.8gr. Titegroup, and an OAL of 1.141, Avg PF 126.1. The load is a bit snappy but very accurate to shoot those "A's". Would not trade it for any other 9mm.

Also shoot a custom Colt 40 S&W single stack in USPSA L-10 & SS.

I shot "Plastic" for quite a while and just wasn't very competitive..

Finally went back to my all time favorites.. 1911's (Well and a 2011..) and

for just amazing control-ability, economics and fun... My 1911 in 9mm is perfect IMHO..

Go for it, you won't be displeased in any way..

The RIA is nice, but uses its own front sight and has cheap trigger components. By the time all is said and done, the Spartan is a better value, but it's a close call.

Personally, I'd sell my Spartan and buy a Trojan tomorrow if the Trojan didn't have that "STIpling." I want to get my Spartan checkered (because I much prefer a checkered gun) but I'd also much prefer a ramped barrel!

I've got to agree, the Spartan is a GREAT WAY to go too..

My earlier comment was taking into account that even adding sights,

trigger & ambi-controls on an RIA would put costs about where the box stock

costs of even the Spartan would be.. (Don't get me wrong.. STI IS my personal fave..)

As to selling your Spartan tomorrow to get a Trojan IF

it didn't have the STIppling... I do own a Trojan and really

do NOT care for the STIppling either, but... I fixed that in

under 10 minutes w/ Skate-Board tape on the front strap..

If I already OWNED a Spartan.. I seriously doubt I would sell it

off then go spend $4-500.00 more dollars to get the Trojan...

They are both GREAT guns hands down.

I just went back to 9mm SS after a season of L10 and was pleased that it is a good bit faster than my limited gun. I like it running about 135pf and its extremely flat and snappy. Last year, I had some great finishes with it. You just have to be accurate. Its perfect for steel, too.

If I do anything, I'll get it checkered and get a ramped barrel fit to it and have a truly one of a kind, even more bad arse Spartan!
