m1normando
Can anyone recommend a resource for doing frame rail carbonization? I know Tripp used to provide this service but I believe they are no longer offering it. Thanks!
Matt Cheely
If you go with any of the available nitrocarburizing processes, it will give you the same benefit. You just have to do it to the whole part and it will have a black finish.
m1normando
Thanks for the reply Matt. Is there a particular process that you can recommend or are they all about the same?
Matt Cheely
They are basically all the same process. Some are a salt bath, other a vapor process. Pick your poison. I offer the finish as well.

Loves2Shoot
Can anyone recommend a resource for doing frame rail carbonization? I know Tripp used to provide this service but I believe they are no longer offering it. Thanks! A buddy of mine does this carbinzer I was thinking about doing an old 1911 and seeing how it works. I know it makes it hard as heck form the samples he showed me. You can just do the spots you want done on a part also. RIIID
I've got a carbinizer in the shop, it works great when you need a thin hard coating. Rich
Loves2Shoot
Ruch, Is it one like the one shown in the video where you can just do spots?

Qbert
I've got a carbinizer in the shop, it works great when you need a thin hard coating. Rich Could that Rocklinizer be used to improve a sloppy slide to frame fit? Or to put a layer of tungsten carbide around the end of the barrel to tighten up a loose barrel to slide fit at the muzzle? RIIID
Qbert It can be used to tighten up the frame to slide, anything more than 3 thousandths I weld up the rails. I've never done a barrel/bushing but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Rich
Qbert
Thank you, Rich. Can the tungsten layer be plated over hard chrome?
RIIID
I've done it before hard chrome but not after hard chrome. Rich
