ericneth63 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I am a new owner of a 1911 Kimber Custom2. How often do you need to change the recoil springs and what is the stock spring 16lb? Thanks
ParaGunner Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 If it's a 45acp the stock spring is 16lbs. It's recommended to be changed every 3000-5000rnds.

Most of the springs I have seen measure an inch shorter between 1500-2000 rounds and will depend on the power of the ammo(comp vs personal defense).................cheap maintenance to change the spring, most manufacturers in their manuals state 1500-2000 rounds in a 45.
old506 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I have a 14lb'er in my Custom II with at least 4k on it. Probably time to change but it works.

I always use a quality recoil spring like sprinco or ismi. I switched to a Sprinco recoil spring and been very impressed, I buy only sprinco now.
fastarget Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Roy, Where are you buying your sprinco springs from..?
JDubb Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I have a S&W 1911 it has a 18lb in it. I changed to a 16lb. Will it be ok for reloads under the 165 power factor to work up to the 170 loads for uspsa? I am using 200gr berry's HP 4.9gr. TG at 1.225 oal mixed brass. This is my starting load for now. Should I put the 18 in it or will it be to much spring?? Any help appreciated! Justin
soundwave Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I shoot a Custom II as well and find a 14lb spring feels great for major PF loads with a fast powder like Clays. Just food for thought.
tulsashooter45 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Roy, Where are you buying your sprinco springs from..? I'm not Roy but Brownells stocks them
RangerTrace Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Another vote for Sprinco here and I buy them directly from them.
