Fed Small Pistol / Fed Magnum Small Pistol

I am loading 40 for major from my glock. Using titegroup and 180gr xtreme plated bullets. I normally use fed small pistol primers, as I have a ton left over from my revolver loading days. I found a few thousand federal magnum small pistol primers under the reloading bench and was wondering if anyone loaded with these and if I need to back off my powder charge.

The spm primers will increase your fps slightly.

Maybe 50-100 fps. You can lower your charge weight by a tenth or two.

But I would be more concerned about those plated bullets you'll be using.

I never was able to get an acceptable group using plated by YMMV.

everal years ago I made the mistaake of not loolking carefully before removing primers from the stores shelf and mistakenly purchased the SP magnum variety. I did not realize it untilI had used ca 500 in some mild 40 S&W loads ( American Slect, 180 gr. Berry's at ca 800 fps). When I chronographed those loads they produced ca 20fps more average velocity than those primed with standard primers.
