technetium-99m
I had a moment of weakness just now and bought a stripped LR-308 lower off GB. I believe I'm just going to buy a DPMS upper for it with the 24" barrel on it. Question time. If I send the upper out to be shortened, threaded, and turned down can I just use a standard AR-15 gas block as long as the barrel diameter matches it? I can't seem to find a 308 specific part here, and the same goes for the gas tube.
prreed10
Should be OK, just make sure the Gas tube is maker specific to the gas key on the bolt carrier. Armalite gas tubes & keys are different than DPMS. Edited April 1, 2011 by prreed10

technetium-99m
Thanks guys. Is Benny still chopping up these barrels? Gonna be a hunting kinda thing so I'm not really wanting crazy carrier lightening or anything.

smokshwn
+1 to Benny Mine shoots like a house of fire and handles great. FYI started as a the basic LR308 with the 24" bull barrel and is now 18" .750 profile.
technetium-99m
I'm going to have him cut it to 20 or so inches. Mine is going to be a hunting rifle 1st and a 3 gun rifle 2nd. An 8 lb semi auto 308 sounds much more fun to carry around than what I have now, and I even have the fluted version!
