AultGM
I have plenty of 165 gr. Montana Gold bullets and lots of VV N320, 700X, & WSF Powder. I also a good supply of WSP & Federal Small Pistol Primers. I'm looking for a "comfortable" Major Load for my 6.5" 610, which I will be shooting at the upcoming 2010 Nationals. I have severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both wrists, so Major Loads usually sting pretty good. At 67 yrs. old, half-blind, overweight, with a bad "ticker", I don't expect to do anything more than have a good time. However, I would like to gather as many points as possible and shooting Major will help. If I "must" go to 180 gr. bullets, I can get a supply of Billy's pretty fast. I would greatly appreciate any loading data you may have for the (3) Powders I listed above, using 165 or 180 bullets. Thank You for your time, Howard
Joe4d
pick a start load from a manual and get to work with the chrono, your gun combo is gonna make your results different from most .40 shooters. But based on my experience and what I expect to happen, I dont like any of the powders you have mentioned. But I would concentrate on the 320. Its a little slower than the 700 and your extra inch and a half of barrel over the norm may help you pick up some velocity and back off the charge a bit. As long as you stay subsonic I dont think you will ever notice a difference in shooting the 180's.. If you do decide to go with a different bullet I'd go all the way up to 200 grain bullets. You may beed to go to a powder that takes up less room in the case like titegroup.
10mmdave
If your going for more fun than competing what about loading up for Minor ?? How easy/soft shooting would a full size 6.5 inch barrel N frame be then If you don't want to use Clays then as mentioned, use the N320

GMM50
Hi: From a C class shooter, I use Mixed Brass Winchester Primers, Berry's bullets (180gn and 200gn) Copper plated. I load Clays about 4.0 grains. But start at 3.7 and work your way up. I've found Clays to be temperature sensitive. I cold weather (40F) the speed also falls off. In hot weather (90F) no notice of any change. I like clays cause it has a rather soft push making major. Enjoy gm Edited August 20, 2010 by GMM50

michaels
Howie, next time you come down, bring the gun and I'll chrono it with my 610 load and we'll see where you end up. I'm right at 167-9 with 180 billys and 4.1 of clays, just load them long. mike sousa

I will pass along the bad news about the sideways bullets. I don't think he has ever shot any through his STI ? Maybe he knows sumpin' we don't.
