jasond
Hey guys, hopefully you can give me a suggestion for a new icore load. I've been shooting this for a few years: starline .38 short colt, federal 100s, 3.2 clays, berry's 158 rn 1.150 oal Accuracy is fair, makes 130 pf, but plated bullets keep getting more expensive. I bought a box each of 135rn and 160rn Billy Bullets, and the 160s are a bit longer than the berry's. I'd appreciate it if anyone would share their choice of powder, oal, or any other info about these particular bullets. Rudy, by the way, was very helpful, sent the stuff with only a promise of a check, and got them here yesterday after I ordered them monday! revoman
I found a couple of loads that others have posted. 2.4 Clays, OAL 1.21 3.5 Solo 1000, 1.130 This should give you a start and you might try a search under the reloading tab for 38 short colt. ChrisC
im using the 160's with 3.5 grains of solo 1000. it makes power factor and is accurate at 25 yards. i haven't fully developed this load yet and fixing to add some ports to my gun... i pretty much use 9 mm data.. jasond
Thanks for the help! I've been through the reloading forum, but I couldn't find quite what I was looking for. The main thing I'm not sure about, is that there is a lube ring on the bullets about where I want to crimp. The Billy 160s are .060" longer than the Berry's 158s, so I'm trying them loaded .025" longer with a lighter charge to start. That gives me about .070" (eyeballing) between the case mouth and the lube groove to crimp onto. I normally only crimp about .001" with plated bullets, should I crimp these more? They sure feel slick! I'm going to try the Billy or Bayou 170s next, if I like the 160s better than the 135s.
Tom E
Can you roll your crimp into the lube groove? Just like it was a crimp groove/cannelure?
Bubber
Jason, most of the shooters I know using Billy Bullets do a taper crimp as it is not an extra step if using a 550 or similar press. Wish I knew more. later rdd
jasond
Tom, the lube groove is pretty wide and a little far down. I'm taper crimping with a 9mm die. I'll let you guys know what happens accuracy-wise in a few days!
