9mm 120 grn lead and Winchester 231

Recently scored some 120 grn 9mm flat nose bullets and I have about 8 pounds of 231 sitting on the shelf. What I'm looking for is a good minor load to practice with. I tried searching and didn't come up with anything for 231. Anyone have data that will get me started? Pistol is a M&P Pro.

I shoot 3.9 (little on the weak side) to 4.1 with 125gr lead. Lymann's 49th book has data for 120gr lead bullets.

4.1 gr of 231 should put you right there. It is one of my favourite loads out of my 9MM guns which includes the M&P 9MM.

I will confirm the 4.0 to 4.1 gr load of 231 works fine based on my personal experience.

Just put some 4.0gr 231 with 125 grain TCFP out of an XD9 tactical. Bullets were made by S&S Casting with an overall length of 1.065. They averaged 1078 feet per second. I will be cutting the powerder to 3.8 or 3.9 and reloading like you know what. Bshooter.

The 4.0 grains worked like a champ. Fired about 500 rounds last Friday and no problems. Thanks fellas.

My Dad has a Kimber SS 9mm 1911, with 3.8gr W231 and a 125gr Conical (OAL 1.125") he gets about 1050fps average, usually ranging from 1030 to 1075fps.

The same load in my crappy Norinco 1911 5" we get about 1020fps but the extreme spread is more. When I go to 4.1gr I get 1080fps and the ES settles to something acceptable.

Accuracy is crap in the Norinco unless you use a JHP.
