  1. Herky, thanks! Ill try and chrono that load. Is the gas enough to make the comp work? This is the first time I am going to use a comp with so many holes. I had experience a long time ago with a friends comped gun but if i remember it right, i think it has only 1 or maybe 2 holes on top. eerw, I heard a lot about 3n37. I hope i can find one here in our area and try it too. My CP brass is from one area match. Its mixed with 9SC and Win 9x23 brass. 100 something pieces. thanks for sharing your loads.
  2. eerw, thanks for your reply. I believe it is 5in. bbl. The comp is cone type extending back to almost half the lenght of the bbl. The slide has no lightening cuts heres what i have: 124gr HAP box says .3555 IMR7625/VVN350 or any other powder info is welcome. I am open to suggestions and to be honest I dont have a preference yet Win/CP brass and a little bit of 9 supercomp Fed SRP/SMP My reloader is D650 #5 dillon 650 shellplate which the guy from Dillon said its also for .223 RCBS Nowlin 9x23 sizer all other dies are dillon 9's. amateur
  3. Is there a thread discussing loads for 9x23? I already looked but i cant find it. I know some of the forum members are using this caliber too. The story: I have a colt combo 9x23/38super and thats what i use for about 3 years. using factory ammo and saving all the brass. I decided to go another step and now i am into open gun. My eyes are getting old but still want to enjoy the sport. I have an open gun coming next week and of course 9x23. Its an svi, regular lenght slide with 7 ports and c more sight. Ill reload this time and I need a starting load. ive been reading loads for 38super and its variants but there was a thread i read that the load for 9x23 should be less than 38s. By how much? The guy who post didnt say? Please help!
  4. I bought an SVI slide (govt lenght) in the white from a guy who dropped his project bec of financial problem. I dont neeed it at that time but I cannot pass on the price so I keep it on my cabinet until I read on this forum about cutting/shortening the slide. I also have a standard SVI frame, so maybe the gunsmiths who are posting replies on this thread might give me a range on how much will be the cost to convert this govt slide to shorty plus other cuts, including the barrel and comp + fitting. thanks
  5. Hello, I already have a .38super open and now that my son is beginning to enjoy the sport, I am planning to give him his own because we take turns shooting mine during a match. He enjoy shooting steel. I have a series 70 Colt Combat Commander in 9MM. If I am going to convert this to an open gun, what are your recommendations regarding compensator and barrel. Is there a ready to fit comped barrel for a 9MM Commander? Thanks
  6. My frame is SVI with a caspian regular lenght but lightened slide in .38 super. I enjoy shooting it.
  7. They are all backed up by Bobs quality so i think you cant go wrong on whichever you choose. Remember, theres still magazines to buy, holster and mag holder that will hold the double column sticks.
  8. I use 200gr and VV320. when i ran out of 320 during the last few months of 2004, I switched to Bullseye.
  9. Trojan 40 and cmc mags Zero malfunction so far.
  10. BE, Flexmoney, bounty hunter, pierruiggi, eye cutter and to everybody who can help me, When is the good timing to shift your vision to the next target especially on steel plates. Is it when you start to see the sight lift or when it is coming back from the top. I want to learn fast so I am practicing a lot. NOW THIS PROBLEM. Everything now looks slow while I am shooting plates (falling, the sound of hit and my new experience which is the lifting and returning of the frontsight in SLOW MOTION- is this really happening? or i am imagining things) I practice with plates yesterday and thats what I notice. It feels like I want to move my vision but since the whole act of aiming shooting and whatever is slow, my brain and body says wait, slow down and then suddenly the confirmation of hit comes. My analysis is I wasted time. I dont know if im right or wrong. By the way the power factor I am using is 174 with a 12.5lb spring - .40cal; so i think its not the slide moving slow (with that PF). Thanks
  11. I can track my front sight now. See it bounced and goes back to original point of aim. Now I pay too much attention to it and the target is blurred especially when shooting multiple targets. Is this how it should be? or is it the other way around (target clear and the frontsight blurred). Thanks
  12. It also happened to me before and i found out that the inside wall of the primer tube is dirty. I dont know where those fine dust are from. Same problem, no brush small enough to brush the inside so I generously spray the inside with brake cleaner and then spray it again with dry lubricant. That cured the problem, and then I make it to a point that I clean the primer tube and the carousel every 2000 reloads.
  13. 9MX Tol, if plans push through, I am going to Pinas next year, Where can I get that belt with IPSC logo. Im from Prnque near SM. Are you from MMla?
  14. Are you asking about the lenght only? I have both short and long open guns. The reason I ask is because theres a catch on mine. I need to make them shoot and behave almost identical so my set up is SHORT AND MINIMAL LIGHTENING and LONG WITH EXTENSIVE LIGHTENING. I also played with loads. Each gun has a specific load. I dont use the shorty load on the long open and vice versa because gun behaves different. Even my friends cannot tell the difference between the two guns. Best open gun for IPSC, I think starts with the shooter himself and the gun is secondary, if you get what I mean. Number 3 is the load that will make your comp work to its highest potential and practice practice practice.
  15. IMO, it doesnt do anything. For looks maybe yes. I played with it. I have a thin one with double spring, a regular one pc, two pcs, SS, shok tek, springco and cominolli ,in SS and tungsten. I shoot single stack classic match every year and one time I use a guide rod the whole morning and then use a regular plug and short reecoil guide the whole afternoon. (SSC is a big match with lots of IPSC gods are participating during last weekend of April or first week of May). This is what I found out, my scores in matches and my gun reliability is the same when i use them OR WHEN I AM USING REGULAR PLUG AND SHORT GUIDE. One more thing I dont use shock buff anymore. One IPSC god on one stage got the scare of his life when after engaging the last target, the slide locked halfway into battery. Still lucky because he finished the stage. He found a shattered shock buff and HE SUSPECT that it maybe the source of the problem. he said he just changed it the night before the match. So now every year whenever we meet, he always remind me to remove the SB. Hammer bite install a beavertail. Wilson Drop in for S70 Colt. I use brown with raised pad on mine because I have the the jig for installing it.
  16. I would like to try lead cast bullets. Why are some bullets has a flat base and some are made with bevel base. Is there a big difference on performance between these two? Which one do you prefer? Thanks
  17. a club member has a colt series 70 that during fast reload the hammer falls. We then covered the trigger guard with tape to make sure not a pulled trigger, slam a magazine and did the same thing. It doesnt do that on slow reload. Whats the possible cause. what part needs to be replaced? Thanks
  18. What caliber of open gun are you planning to build? If your slide is a .40 or .45 and you want a 9x?? or .38?? open, then I think you have a problem with the dimension of the slides breech face. Unless your slide is an SVI infinity with interchangeable breech face, then the thing to replace is breech face, extractor and comped barrel. Drill the frame for scope mount and add a scope. Ooops magazine too. In Asia where .38S brass and its variance is expensive and sometimes unavailable, shooters stick with .40 and build open on the same caliber.
  19. Im having the same problem. Mine is a heinie front and I want to replace it with fiber optic. I can remove the screw but i cant remove the sight. Tried to tap it a little bit but it still sits there. Any idea? thanks
  20. 1911 slide with a Novak rear. Is it possible to convert the cut and will I still have the hidden leaf appearance of the BMCS. Thanks
  21. Hello all, Thanks for the replies. I check the comp and there is only minimal soot in there. Nothing grainy or building up of gunk from powder. I ask a friend who has a brand new STI open. I ask him to load on his reloader and supplied him the powder (from the same container), bullet from the same box and primer from the same batch. Again, same headstamp brass but this time they are all brand new. Same charge. It was a pain, because after the brass passed the powder station, we weighed the powder to make sure the load is the same and back again into the brass. OAL is strictly = or +/- .001. We spent almost the whole afternoon but we want answers so we did it. Well its the same both on his gun and mine. Team GE - Im using .356 FMJFP / .382 crimp gives me a very faint crimp line.
