  1. So I've run across a used Beretta 1201FP for about half the cost of a used Benelli, and a couple hundred less than a new Remington 1100 Tac 4. According to the seller, it's the same action as a Benelli (looks like that's true), and it will take M1 stocks. From what I found in my search, the limited capacity is definitely a handicap, and there's not anything that can be done about it. Also, some people seem to have had issues with stock fit, but if it'll take M1 stocks, that may be a non-issue as well. The seller's already got it set up with a sidesaddle and oversized bolt handle. Bear in mind, I've still yet to shoot my first 3 gun match, and there's only 3 or 4 matches locally per year, so I don't want to break the bank. I probably won't ever shoot a lot of 3 gun or win any matches, but I don't want to unnecessarily handicap myself as well.
  2. Just watched a couple chapters of the Matrix, on DVD and BR. The video quality on the BR is much better. Everything is in sharper focus is the most noticeable difference. Which is real noticeable as the depth of field gets deeper. I didn't compare audio - forgot to turn on my stereo. One thing I noticed when playing DVDs on the BR player - it's amazing how much more the depth of field increases just from the BR player. I figured DVDs would look the same when played in a BR player as in a DVD player. Not the case at all. But I also noticed that with the big depth of field improvement - sometimes you almost feel like you're in the room - some of the clarity/focus quality is lost. Some scenes just look "blurier" (DVD in BR player). Anyone else notice that? Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! be Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but we just got our Blu-Ray set up with the big new HDTV and sound system. I would definitely agree with Brian's statement above. I really didn't expect much of an improvement over DVD, but I really noticed a difference. I was especially surprised by "Casablanca". On Blu-Ray, the picture had much more depth, you could see the smoke in the air at Rick's cafe, and Ilsa's eyes and diamond jewelry sparkled. I got the Blu-Ray player free as a bonus at work, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought one, and now I'm really glad I have it.
  3. The 28x is good for the islands because it can be used as a sail if you get marooned.
  4. I'm in recovery from my K frame addiction. I'm down to two, but at one point it was 5.
  5. They're all spoken for now. Good luck, guys.
  6. I went onto a local store I didn't know about today and they have 2 of the no longer made ed brown oversized S&w thumblatches. Pm me of you want one, price is $26 plus tax and postage.
  7. Corey, I don't disagree with your logic, but I'm a loud fat guy with a red beard. I draw attention regardless.
  8. So my Indiana carry permit is in processing, and I'm a t shirt and cargo pants kinda guy. Big Hawaiian shirts seem like an ideal cover garment to me, especially in the hot summer months. Trouble is, I don't know where to find good ones. If I'm gonna do this, I wanna do it right, which to me means really obnoxious patterned shirts, preferably with semi-nude hula girls. Any suggestions?
  9. I saw a .40 cal AR that took Glock mags, but I don't remember who made the AR though. Olympic Arms makes them.
  10. What I really would like to do is use an M1 Garand, but I can't win on style points alone.
  11. First off, let me day that I've yet to shoot my first 3 gun match, though that'll change this spring. I've got a 20" AR in .223 that I built up for Tac Optics over the winter, but I still just have a pump shotgun. I also really like shooting my single stack, so I'm thinking about Heavy Metal as well. I'd like to try a couple different divisions and stick with the one I like best. I don't have a .30 caliber rifle of any kind, so I'm starting from scratch. There's plenty of info here about different configurations of AR15s, but not much about AR10s. Obviously, it has to run, but that's about all I know. I'm not totally convinced I want an AR10 over an M1A, but it would help if I knew more about which AR10s I should be looking at. The only ones I've handled were a DPMS with a heavy 24" barrel which seemed way to long and heavy and a DPMS Sportical which seemed to light and I didn't like the flimsy adjustable stock on it. FWIW, while I haven't shot there yet, I'm told that the stages in Owensboro where I'll be shooting most of the time tend to be 100 yards or less but with a lot of tight shots. Any He-Men out there, please share what configuration you shoot and why you like it.
  12. Well I never got around to buying another upper, and now that my tax refund has arrived I'm looking again. I figured I might as well revive my old thread and see if anybody had any new suggestions. I'm still thinking I'll probably get the DSA upper listed above as it's still the cheapest around and this'll just be a plinker. I've also thought about getting a .22 conversion for it, that way I'd have a dedicated .22 upper that o could turn into 5.56 if I wanted to.
  13. I got my first Limited gun a few months ago, and I'll be campaigning with it come spring. It's am SV factory gun, and it came with 4 SV mags with Dawson basepads. They'll hold 20, though the last round is tough to get in there. One has a blue basepad, the other 3 are red. I'm a huge Colts fan, and I usually wear a Colts cap and a Colts Under Armour type shirt to matches. I have a CR Speed belt with Colts blue trim, and I just got matching CR Versa Pouches. Now I have one mag that matches, and three that don't. If they weren't red I could live with it, but God forbid I should be mistaken for a Patriots fan! My question is, if I trade my red Dawson basepads for blue Dawson pads without changing anything else, will that affect my mags capacities? Also, if anyone has 3 blues they'd like to trade for red, shoot me a PM.
  14. Last year was the first one, it was Friday through Sunday 4th of July weekend in Des Moines, IA.
  15. I'll be going to Memphis (hopefully no illness this year), Indiana state match, and I'm strongly considering the Mississippi classic and King of Revo if it's on again and my work schedule permits.
  16. I just got a DROID ERIS (not Motorola) a few days ago. I love it! It's basically the closest copy you can get. Through Verizon (I was at the end of a 2 year contract) it was 50 bucks. Only thing it doesn't have that the Moto DROID does is a slide out keyboard, but the touchscreen keyboard is no problem for me.
  17. I had a buddy who got a BUL-made Kimber while I had the KZ. I was able to compare them side by side. The KZ is much, much better. The BUL/Kimber is built around a 14 round mag while the Wilson is built around a 10 round mag. It's significantly slimmer. The Wilson's more like a S_I, where the BUL/Kimber is more like a Para. The Wilson was also accurate and stone cold reliable.
  18. I'm glad you like it. I used to have a KZ45, and it was a helluva lot of gun for what I paid for it. I always thought they should make one in 9mm between the fullsize and compact, and it looks like that's exactly what they did with the Spec Ops. Wish the name wasn't so silly, though.
  19. Actually, Downey plays it in very much the same way, (I imagine it's not that difficult for him to play a brilliant guy who's a little nutty), and Watson's characterization is much more as his partner rather than his bumbling sidekick. Don't let the previews fool you, it's not the super action packed explosion-fest that you'd think it is from seeing the previews. Much more about the story and the characters. I think you'll like it.
  20. Yes, but it's just enough. Not vertigo inducing like some others of his, but the fight scenes are well paced and shot. Also the English accents are upper-crust, not the usual unintelligible small-mouthed Cockney of Ritchie's other movies.
  21. Loved it! I thought it was really well done. I was glad that it focused more on the relationship between Holmes and Watson rather than trying to wow me with action. Good story, good characters, good villain, and the end of the movie set up the next one nicely. Thumbs up from me.
  22. Well, mission accomplished. I started with a pair of small angled needle nose pliers, but they weren't rough enough to get a good grip. Switched to self-adjusting channel locks, and did fine until the last one. It was the top left side. That one was a bear, no room to maneuver with the thumb safety and mag release in the way. I got a couple small scratches on the frame now, but they'll be covered by the grips. The bushings are all destroyed, and the last one is completely mangled, but they're out, the new ones are in, and I really like the thin grips on this gun. I am glad that I'll probably never have to do that again! Thanks for all the help and advice, guys!
  23. OK, I've got a pair of curved pliers, what do I do with them?
  24. Looks like they're staked. What do I do now?
  25. How do I tell if they're staked?
