Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I always use the DOH, since I play in Production and Limited/L-10. I've tried the open type holsters, but my draw always felt "awkward". I felt like I was drawing the same way I would with the DOH. I think I'm too used to the pouch style.
  2. I've had that issue with my old Para's and an extended mag release. I will assume that you are right handed. You may be pushing too hard with your left hand against the pistol. Pay attention to where the meaty part of your palm (below your thumb) makes contact with the mag release. I have had to stop using extended releases on all of my pistols because of this, and because I am too stubborn to adjust my grip.
  3. Right now, my definition of "succeed at shooting" is to have complete and consistant matches, instead of 4 good stages and 4 poor stages and to keep focused throughout the whole match.
  4. I am a past customer, so all I do is call and they will send me what I need, provided that it is in stock. I can only get 500 rounds of each type of ammo, so 500 of 147gr and 500 of 115gr and 500 230gr .45. I understand that they will only sell to past customers or new customers with a brass exchange
  5. My suck factor is directly related to how much time and effort I put in. The last 2 years, the suck factor has been great. (Work and home life ruin the best practice intentions) But I have also noticed that IF i can keep my focus for an entire match, the suck factor is less. But lately I have noticed that I just can't stay focused for an entire match and I keep doing dumb things. I am hoping the suck factor will change for next year.
  6. I have had great success with Atlanta Arms 115's and 147's. I have not tried any 124's through it I usually load Zero 147's, but haven't been able to until I can get some. But when I do, I will only use Titegroup or HS-6.. I don't have my load data handy, sorry.
  7. The only 3 that are constantly in the fridge: Starr Hill "The Love" - Wheat beer out of Charlottesville, VA Stegmaier "Gold" - American Lager from Wilkes Barre, PA Schneider-Weisse "Aventinus Eisbock" - German Wheat beer, pricey, but awesome.
  8. It is point of aim, point of impact (off a rest) at 40 yards. About 1.5-2" low at 50.
  9. I had the same issue with my XDm 5.25 9mm. I gave it a thorough cleaning and lubing. It now shoots perfectly with the rear sight centered.
  10. Somedays I feel like a great shooter, others I feel like a big donkey. I've always felt that I can always do better. I just recently made my B card in Limited, L-10 and Prodution but I feel that I'm not competitive as a B shooter. Am I being too negative? Am I being too hard on myself? Probably and definately My shooting buddies say that I shoot great and they are all M shooters. I had a GM tell me that I have a lot of talent and can be really good. I guess it comes down to the fact that I can be a great shooter, but it all is in my hands. I don't pratice or dry fire nearly as much as I should I took 2008 off from shooting and my scores reflected that. Now that I'm back to shooting full time, my goal is my A card in Limited, L-10 and Prodution. I know how to get there, I just have to get of my a$$ and do it. You have to have goals, my A card is my goal for now. After I reach that, M will be my goal.
  11. I wish I had seen this topic earlier. When I was instructing, shooting an instructor demo was part of the basic lesson plan for each course of fire. Every instructor did it, some shot it great, some didn't. Such as life. The lead instructor would explain the course of fire, while the assistant shot the course. What I noticed is that every single recruit (student) never watched the shooter, they always watched the target! This would drive me crazy. The idea of the demo was to learn the technique, to learn the positions, to understand the course of fire. If you are letting the student watch the target, it defeats the purpose of a demo. I've shot demos in front of hundreds of people, and as an instructor, I have no problem doing so. But I believe the demo should be set up so the student can't see the target until the demo is done. Their focus should be on the shooter and how they shoot the weapon and course. Now, if you are shooting a demo for non shooters (like dignitaries, or someone of the like) then you should be showing off. You should have the best performer available and your target should be the only focus.
  12. I am sick to death of working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, with an hour ride to and from work. I have no time to shoot, no time for dry fire, no time to cook, no time to get anything done. I know I shouldn't complain with the current state of the economy, but damn it.....I'm tired and I miss shooting!
  13. Does anyone know when the Area 2 match info will be coming out? (i.e. application and dates)
  14. 12. Do not ride your brakes through a green light! It will not magically change to red while you are in the intersection! 13. Just because I am driving a police car does not mean you have to drive 5 mph UNDER the speed limit. Get where you are going so I can. 14. HANG UP THE PHONE!!! or buy a bluetooth!!!
  15. I waited 1 1/2 hours for my room, only for them to tell me that they didn't have the King non-smoking that I reserved 2 1/2 months ago. I ended up with a double smoking. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when it is said "you know how to take a reservation, you just don't know how to keep a reservation." Plus, the elevator we were on got stuck on the 3rd floor and wouldn't open. We ended up waiting 5 minutes before the damn thing went back down to the 1st floor. Nothing like carrying your gear and luggage up 2 flights of stairs, halfway down a hall, and up another flight of stairs. But on the good side, the match is wonderful, the venue is wonderful. Even if my shooting today wasn't. Somehow I pulled off 3 no-shoots in one stage(stage 15), gun jam(stage 14) and 1 no-shoot (stage 12). Definately not the best way to start. But, hey, this is my first nationals.
