  1. Thanks for the info. , will look into the moonclips. Any suggestions as to who can do an excellant job on the retro fit for moonclips for the 686?
  2. Well after 30 years of shooting I finally got my first revolver a S&W Model 686 7 shot. Since I can't find the hole in the bottom to stuff rounds in I guess I need some speed loaders. What is the recommendation from the experts on which speedl oaders I should get. I plan to start shooting some ICORE.
  3. I am thinking about getting a S&W 686 7 shot and have a dumb question. If you have the cyl. cut to accept moonclips can you also shoot it without using moonclips. I have always been an auto shooter and want to explore the revolver world for USPSA. I just dont want to limit the gun to using moonclips all the time.
  4. Thanks to everyone for all of the helpful advice but it boiled down to a dumb attack on my part. The fine folks at Larue helped me to get this problem fixed. I forgot that the turrents have zero stops built into them and that is why it would not adjust down any more. LaRue folks told me to remove the turrents and I should have plenty of adjustment left, tried it and they are right. The scope is dead on a 100 yards and the BDC is working just fine. Can't say enough about the help I got from LaRue Tactical, one of the few companies left that deliver outstanding customer service.
  5. Thanks for the info I will give it a try first of the week and let you know.
  6. I originally had a Leupold 3.5 -10 MR/T on this rifle and it worked just fine. The only change is that I had only rings for it not the complete mount.
  7. I just mounted a Leupold Mk 4 MR/T 1.5 - 5 on my flattop AR using a LaRue SPR-S mount. With the scope bottomed out it is still 4" high at 100 yds. Do I have a bad scope , mount, or is it something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Chuck, I will be at the range on Sunday setting up for the monthly 3-Gun if you can give me a little better idea of where you parked I will look for the wallet. (i.e. middle of ranges , right end, left end, etc.). I think I remember you parked about 20 -30 yards from the drive and about 30 yards from the shooting bays, if that is close let me know and I will start the search on Sunday morning.
  9. I have been in this sport a long time and have to admit this was a truely great match. Worked as an RO on Sat. and all the shooters went the extra mile to thank us for working in the 90+ degree heat. I came back on Sunday to shoot the match and even after 3 days of being in the sun the RO's were great. Hats off to all of them and especially to David for putting this match together. He was not alone but just can't remember all the othrs involved, you know who you are THANK YOU for another great match. Can't wait for next year.
  10. Having lived in Kokomo most of my adult life I can also give some info on places to see and places to avoid. On Saturday I think it is the annual Carver Center Ribfest being held downtown. Most all of the local BBQ places set up booths around the court house and you can sample each ones special BBQ for a small fee, also a beer garden is on the west side of the square. Bands on both ends of the courthouse with many differant types of music being played, overall a really good time can be had for not a lot of money. If you want add'l info e-mail me at jalley@rtcol.com, match looks like it will be one of the better ones around. Be sure to keep a lot of water in you as it will be a little warm this weekend. I will be at the range on Saturday to help out so if you have questions about the Kokomo area just look me up.
  11. I am wanting to upgrade my optics from a red dot to scope and ordered a Mark 4 MR/T in early March from my local dealer. received e-mail stating that it will be anoter 4-6 weeks before it is shipped. Is Leupold that far behind or is my dealers dist. point just not on ball ? Does anyone have an idea where this scope can be found ?
  12. This was a great learning experience for me, our local matches are all under 35 yds with 99% being some sort of house clearing stage. So to put it mildly the long range stuff really killed me. But, it was my first taste of a "big" match and I will be back (with a lot of practice at long range). I was extremely impressed with the prize table, I placed so far down it TO that I needed a ladder to climb out of the hole to go to the prize table and was I ever surprised at what was in my bag. I have placed in the top 20 at other major pistol matches and not got near the prize bag that I got at this match. And by the way what address do you want me to ship the ticks back to, they seem to be a little homesick. Ro's were very helpful, I had one of the worst jams I have ever seen with my shotgun with a shell half way in the loading tube and had to basically take the gun apart to fix. The RO's helped clear the jam and was very concerned about how to score the stage so that I did not get hurt to bad. Thanks to all, great job.
  13. Since I was the founding father of Team Turtle in the mid-90"s all are welcome...just one rule "Don't outshoot the leader" So to meet this rule you got to be reallllly bad !! See you at the match !
  14. Alright...I have been following the thread and hope you guys beat up on each other and let us new guys have a chance. This will be my first "big" 3-gun match. We have monthly matches but the longest shot is 25 - 30 yds. So you need to have a little pity on us old guys that really can't see much more 30 yds..... (can I use a spotter to walk my shots into the targets) ??? Can't wait to get to the match and see how bad I really am!! Looks like all the "pros" are going to be at this one, just my luck.
  15. According to the match rules if this is our first time at your match we must attend an orientation session. When and where will this be held ? I am driving approx. 8 hours and need to know what time i should be in the area the night before the match.
  16. If you have any luck with getting add'l info let me know. I have tried to send an e-mail to the address listed on the web site but is does not work. I started a seperate thread asking about the orientation required for those who have not shot the match before but have not received an answer. I understand that they are busy getting ready for the match but a little better communciation sure would be nice.
  17. I noticed in the rules for the CMMG match in 2 weeks that if you have not shot this match before you must attend an "orientation" class during the evening check in. Where is the evening check in, I have not seen anything posted in reference tot his.
  18. I think some of it might be the mag catch dragging. It is a new gun with ohly 10 rounds fired, hoping with more rounds maybe the problem will solve itself.
  19. I have 7 mags for my new Caspian single stack .40, 5 Cobra and 2 McCormick. 1 of the Cobra and 1 of the McCormick will drop about 1/2 inch and stick. Also both of the McCormick if seated hard will not fall at all, if I seat the mag and pull down a little 1 will drop free and the other drops about 1/2 inch. Anyone have any suggestions of how to fix ?
  20. Atlanta Conservation Club located in Atlanta, In host a monthly 3-Gun / Multi-Gun match. 5- 6 stages per month 120 + rounds 40 -60 shooters depending on weather. Range bays do not allow for long rifle shots so rifle stages are mostly house clearing type stages with many no-shoots, hard cover, etc. Working on putting in some deeper bays for longer rifle shots
  21. Does anyone have any info on the round count for this years Single Stack Nationals ? Want to pack as light as possible but not run short on ammo.
  22. Thanks for the info that tells me how many days to request off.
  23. Working on room reservations, vacation days, etc. , how many days is the match I know the dates cover 3 days but do we shoot on all trhee days ??
  24. Many...many years ago I was Asst. Match Director for the Area 5 match held in Gas City, In. We had extremely heavy rains for a week before the match brought in stone , rock, sand you name it to try and build up the bays. We even had to dig a ditch with a backhoe to try and get rid of the water. But the match went on a little soggy but still fun. This will be my first big 3-Gun match other than local club matches. Can't wait to see some of the top 3-Gun guys in action. Need to try and get some long range practice in, local club matches are mostly close up with no-shoots, another local club max. range is 100 yds. Found a state fish and wildlife area witha 200 yd range , waiting for all the snow and ice to melt so I can get to it.
