  1. This is what kind of info I'm looking for I think.... I'm not wiping my ass with $100's or anything, but I will spend the money on the best option. I do have some manner of mechanical inclination, and not really afraid of going into the gun to get things in order.. Garbo: I just looked at your location.. I'm in Northern VA maybe 1.5 hours from Harper's Ferry.. What kind of matches are in your area?
  2. "Tuned with a trigger job from Tanfoglio's Custom Shop - Straight Barrel with Polygonal Rifling; Full Length Dust Cover with Picatinny Rail for Tactical Lights or Laser Devices; Special Two-Toned Ceramic Coating; Ambidextrous Safety, Xtreme Aluminum Grips; Xtreme Hammer; Xtreme Guide Rod; Xtreme Firing Pin;Xtreme Firing Pin Spring; Xtreme Hammer Spring; Fully Adjustable Supersight; Xtreme Front Sight with Fiber Optics; Custom Magazine Catch;Large Slide Serrations for Ease in Operation; Certificate Signed by the Six Time World Champion, Eric Grauffel" I guess this would constitute the "extras" on the xtreme.
  3. I've been readling.. researching.. basically nerding out on these guns.. BUT have never shot one to date.. I'm referring to the Elite Stock2 and the Stock 2 Xtreme I've read the descriptions, BUT can the ES2 be modded and tuned for a total less than just buying the S2X? Or just buy a ES2 and a Witness Elite Limited in 40 and be in it for basically the same money.. lol
  4. This seems to me to make the most sense.. In my humble view.. building up one match over another only increases distractions... It's "just a match" so to speak, treat it as such.
  5. Glock noob here.. but looking at trading for a G34 Gen 4 and I'm seeing the whole "smaller grip" mentioned. In my looking at the Gen 3's and Gen 4's it *seems* as though the grip angles are a touch different.. with the Gen 4 being slightly more vertical. Is this more optical and a byproduct of it being "smaller"?
  6. I do realize that in regards to live fire... but are these timers used for parctice/dry firing? Of course the start tone is the start tone, but will it register the hammer / striker fall of a pistol without a round going off? I guess I'm thinking of this in regards to a person who is working on draw reation time, and time to first shot.. without using a live round.
  7. How are you guys timing yourselves doing draw/firing? I've never really seen those timer things up close.. what are those recording? Just the crack of the gunshot? Again.. this is more of an FYI for me more than anything..
  8. I don't have a rule book.. but does that positioning hold true for other divisions?
  9. Well.. this is nothing new really.. it's just a new direction.. i've been pretty hardcore into drag racing for a good while, and honestly.. guns are less expensive! lol Broski: I too subscribe to the buy once cry once school of thought.. but it's the figuring out WHAT to buy is the issue. I certainly don't mind plopping down the money for the right tools..
  10. Thank you.. and as of yet, I really haven't. Until yesterday, I'd never heard of a Tanfoglia and it was one that the guy I was speaking with was something that was making waves in production. I do have an STI Costa VIP.. it's short (4") and it's in 45... but I could use it in limited.. everything else I have isn't something I really want to try.. I think I want something in 9mm or at most 40sw. But again.. it's like information overload.. am I making a "bad decision" in regards to a gun to start with. I have a few H&K's, but the ergonomics on them isn't something that seems to fit well for speed. Again, not that speed is all that important for me at the moment.. but again.. as things goes on, I would want something that can evolve as I do. I don't mind spending the money on something that I can grow into either. SO... That was a VERY long winded way to say .. no. I have decided on a gun yet.. lol
  11. I did not shoot, because I don't have some of the accessory stuff and really didn't want to "just show up" Anyway... It was a FANTASTIC experience. It was a pretty long day, and apparently even long by their standards. It was a super nice day for a Feb in Va.. Temps got up to high 60's and sunny. So there was a lot of people, roughly 100 shooters. I was reassuring to see things first hand, and how the flow comes together through the stages, and the movement of the squads between stages. I learned a whole lot, got insight into what equipment might work better than other.. and met some great folks. Time to close the circle on the gaps in my equipment, and start on the dry-fire and reloading work!! lol

    Grip Angle

I hear that.. I like the PPX the most, but it's not legal for some reason.. so I'm looking for the PPQ Q5 Match.. I figure it's going to be the same control functionality.. but it seems to be getting high praise in regards to preformance.. if I can find one.. lol

    Grip Angle

This is the initial thing I was seeing when I picked up the 34 over the weekend.. My *natural* grip or holding of the gun, the muzzle was way up.. But is that a muscle memory thing from other pistols or more *my* natural arm/hand extension?

    Grip Angle

I've been trolling around here, reading a lot and looking to start down the competition rabbit hole. lol With that said I've been going through the pistols I have and seeing what I like or dislike about them in regards to what I think would be the most *efficient* in regards to manipulation for reloads and what have you. What I have: Walther PPX, a couple H&K's USP, V9, and I have an STI Costa VIP, and my buddy has a XD competition 5" in 45 ACP of those, from a strictly manipulation standpoint, the Walter was the one that seemed to be leading the pack from a slide release, mag release stand point. Enter the Glock 34.. lol I've never owned a glock as it's always seemed the grip angle of it wasn't really natural.. But I was at a gun show this last weekend, and I picked one up because I read abotu them all the time on here.. and I have to say.. the controls were all "right there" .. So the question I have is.. have anyone here had issue going between a glock and something else? Or maybe better question, going from something else to a glock?
  15. Right on... I was just wondering. I'm still doing a lot of reading on here, and research online about gear and whatnot.. I will be going to check out a match locally this weekend.. I think it's this weekend anyway.. lol
  16. This is purely informational for me in regards to the ebb and flow in the classifieds.. Coming from the drag racing world, winter is the time to kind of "hunt" for parts. It's the down time for most, and upgrades are happening and a wave of parts hit the market. Is there this type of movement in the shooting world? It doesn't have to even be for guns.. equipment as well.. Just curious if there were better or worst time to look in the classifieds..
  17. Glad to see there are Conan fans here.. lol But one thing.. ask the dude if there was a reason he is doing what he's doing? It puts them in a position where they need to articulate an answer... it might defure it..
  18. The whole 3 gun thing is where I think I'll be moving to.. as a buddy of mine wants to get into it and it sounds like a blast (litterally). It was sugested by Hi-Powered Jack to maybe check out some USPSA stuff while getting started.. and in looking at it.. I think that's some great advice.
  19. All the reasons listed here are lining up with what I was thinking.. I certainly don't mind helping with taping.. I think it'll be cool to see the "flow" of the match, and how things are handled, scored, and whatnot.. I've been heavily involved with drag racing for years at this point, and from that perspective, I know when a "new guy" shows up, you're wanting to put the best foot forward to help out. It's a tough thing class racing, and it's nice to see new faces. Seems as though there's carry over with this stuff as well.
  20. I've decided to head out to a local USPSA match to just take it all in... I've been watching footage on youtube, but I think there's SO much more to the whole operation that needs to be seen first hand the a video of someone on the firing line and hearing "Shooter ready.... Stand by...*beep". and seeing them tear out of there and start shooting.. Does this seem weird at all?!?! lol Plus, I think seeing firsthand some of the gear, and talking to people should help a good bit as I figure out what I want to do as far as division and equipment goes.
  21. OH hell... yes, I think I have them dorked up.. I was just looking for the most current set.. GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry..
  22. I got it from USPSA site.. https://uspsa.org/document_library/rules/2015/RifleShotgunMultigunRules.pdf pg. 59 & pg.61 I will be the first to admit I very well may have this mixed up!!! lol
  23. This is a perfect topic for me.. hearing the rationale behind a choice or lack thereof 1- gives me hope 2- gives me ideas. Having never shot competitively before, I've always fell into the whole "just likes guns" type thing.. So thanks fatso! I needed to read something like this!!
  24. If one was using a .45 about the only difference I'm seeing between the classes is the mag capacity... HML has the 10rd limit.. Please correct me if I'm wrong here..
  25. I totally appreciate the heads up Jack!! Seriously.. I used the power of youtube, and those USPSA matches look like a complete blast!! I think they're even held somewhat locally (with an hour's drive or so) I'll have to work on the pic thing.. it's not wanting to load at all..
