Great advice hogrider. Will try a redding die. Boomstick, I also cleaned the sizing die but notice the hang up was still there.
-
Ahh Not sure. Probably around 5k.
Let me pose another follow-up question, for resizing I am using the Lee U die. So when the case is coming out of the die you feel not just the regular friction, but like a thunk that you feel at the handle. Could this be sizing sleeve? That "thunk" was felt in two places originally: the crimp die (which is solved) and the U sizing die. Even with lubed cases I feel it.
-
Thanks. Will incorporate that into the case prep process
-
Good point. I get so used to not lubing pistol brass, that I should try it...

I corrected the flare. Also cleaned the crimp die and the press operation is much smoother. Still a little hang up coming, from what it seems, the sizing die. So I took it apart and cleaned it and lubed it. Still a bit of hang up but not much. May have to contact Dillon to make sure is not something mechanical like the lower bearing assembly.

Yes I think I might be flaring too much. Will correct that!!

I’ll clean it and report back…

The "smoothest/most consistent" results I achieved with my RL1100 running 9mm was using one of these in Station#3:

And of course, the PE/MBF powder funnel at Station#5:

So you are expanding/ flaring twice? Can you tell which funnel I have? I really don’t remember. Maybe the one that came with MBF?

Hogrider, thanks for the feedback. Will def clean those areas and report back.

Just wondering if you had the clunking before you installed the FW Arms prime time and shell plate? Could that something got reinstalled incorrectly and is causing a hang up somewhere.
Yeah the clunking was before primetime...

How many rounds since you last cleaned/maintained your press?
Are you cleaning your dies? If you do not clean your dies, it can create sticky dies.
I make cleaning my dies part of the maintenance cycle of the press (break down and lubing of the press). I just take the tops off of the dies and run a bore snake through the dies.
Something else to note the clunk can be a combination of things. From the two videos you might have something going on in both your de-capping die and your crimping die.
Cleaned it very recently, but not the dies....will try cleaning them, but specifically the crimp die.
Hogrider, thanks for the detailed response. Will def try that.

hum, now you me thinking ddc! But I think that funnel has a flare to it.

Some videos… Seems like a mechanical issue. It does it sparingly…WDYT
Videos were too long so I couldn’t just post them here. I had to link them online…

It does not happen with an empty shell plate

I’ll try to post video

It’s once fired. But it doesn’t seem to be coming from that

I am feeling like there’s something problematic in my 1100 when actuating the handle. Whenever I reload and have a full shellplate as I move the handle down everything works smoothly. However as I slowly bring it up, it moves a few inches and it stops and I have to force it up making a clunk sound and I feel resistance somewhere in the press. I am able to reload fine but this clunk got to go. Any ideas?

Thanks. Gotta get rid of bad habits. Great observation.

Check this out. Finally decided on 10grs of AA7 over a 115g Everglades RN CMJ. Used a 10lb recoil spring and loaded to 1.165" COAL. This load felt, to me, the best on my hand and provided the least amount of felt recoil and the flattest. This load is around 169PF.

Well, finally decided to go with 115gr everglades bullet over 10g of AA7 at 1.165." This makes 169 PF and I'm comfortable with that. Seems like the best for my Czechmate. Next will load some and tune for recoil spring.

I'm up in the air with higher PF (within reason) being harder on the gun. For years I shot a 169PF major load. It has low single digit SDa. On a 20-shot chrono string the lowest PF was 168, except for a 167 Somewhere down the line. I was following advice.
Late last year I decided to experiment. I upped my load of 10.2gr all the way up to 11 in .2gr increments. Powder spilled out of the 11gr load when the shell plate turned, so I didn't test it. On the white no-shoot test I got no splatter. The 10.8gr load was noticeably softer and flatter than the 10.2, so I stayed with it. I really think it is easier on the gun than the lighter load. At least from an impact perspective.
zzt, which powder? AA7 or SWorld? Also were you shooting a Czechmate?
