Prawls are damaged when the press tries to force the indexing. Most of the time its one of 3 things...
1 - Case exiting the shell plate is getting hung up on the ejector tab.
2 - Case entering the shell plate gets hung up.
3 - Messed up primer on insertion dragging on the frame.
Usually, it takes quite a few of each of these to really damage a prawl.
For what its worst... most of my prawls look worse than what you have shown above and I don't get spillage loading 9 major at 1800/hr. Something else might be a little messed up internally with your indexing system.
Oh man don't even say that!!!

Well, seems so far the issue was the worn out pawl. But what you speak of is important. I adjusted mines early in the installation process. Thanks

Thanks. I have something similar from FW arms.

I’ve done it to other presses and seems to work fine. Less click on every detent.

The locating and ball can also make things shake/jiggle. I trim the spring back a little bit to make the shellplate have less "snap" when going into place.
The case ejector could also need adjusting.
Makes sense…

Yeah. Totally agree. Seems like using the mark 7 and hitting the calibrate button really puts a dent

Yes. Using the FW Arms plate. As far as speed I am in the lowest speed. What mod did you do to the lever on station 8? I also have notice a small hang when ejecting rounds.

Upon looking closely, there is a distinct rectangular dent in the pawl which may be the thing creating the clunk.

Dillon 1100 with Mark 7 Auto-drive. Reloading 9mm major with AA7 10.5, so case is almost full. When the shellplate is full, after the powder is dropped, there is a severe clunk/jerk in the shell plate and the powder in the case goes flying everywhere leaving the case almost half full. My actions: I removed shell plate, and the indexing pawl, cleaned under the plate and top of the surface where the plate rides. Ball bearing has the perfect bounce. Cleaned the indexing pawl and reinstalled paying close attention to shell plate tightness. Resumed reloading and for the first 10 rounds or so no issues. All of a sudden the jerk again. What else could it be?

Agree

The problem was fixed. I had to reinstall the Redding seating die and follow step by step instructions. Now all is good. I think it wasn’t set up properly.

Any takers want to do mine? Aandabooks? I’ll pay. Strap yourselves, CZ customs wants $250 for two holes.
-
Damn, 3 months!! Yeah, I’m thinking of sending mine.

I see

For the longest time since I started having COAL issues I thought the seating die might be the problem but thought to myself since it was so expensive it can’t be it. Maybe not.
-
Thanks hesed. Will look into that.

Humm I think my u die touches the shellplate. Will look into this. Great advice thanks
-
Ok. Did you send it to cz custom?

Always looking for ways to reduce perceived recoil. What are your thought on this:
My current set-up: CZ Czechmate with 10.3grs of AA7. 115g Everglades CMJ. 1.165"AOL. 10lb spring. Thinking now of trying an 8lb spring and of adding a shock buffer to reduce recoil and be able to run it better. Does this make sense or am I skewed?

Thanks man. I am using a Redding competition seating die.

For reference, I run a Czechmate with 115 Montana Gold or PD 115 JHPs, 8.4 gns of HS-6, 1.16 plus .005 COAL, and range pick up who knows how many times through the press brass. My loads are nowhere near being compressed, COAL doesn't vary by more than .005, and 20k plus problem free rounds through the gun. Grams tuned my mags, and I bought a Manson throater and gave the barrel a couple of twists so that the JHP's would plunk. I use a Dillon sizer and seater, and a Lee FCD.
I'm guessing you have either a seating die issue or a really inconsistent batch of bullets. The other obvious issue might be the auto drive on the press. No way is range brass accounting for the variance in COAL that you are seeing. I'm guessing that at your longer COAL's you have so little neck tension that the bullets are tilting in the case upon impact with the feed ramp and that is leading to your feeding issue. Figure out your COAL issue and the FTF will take care of itself. Thanks man. I’ve been thinking of switching out some dies and using some Lee dies to try and isolate the seating problem, assuming that’s the issue.
4 hours ago, Hollow-Point said:I can agree with this. I’ve mentioned before assuming the dies and press are all ok. Not being there to see the press operation doesn’t help. Maybe something is off with the auto drive, and it’s not pressing fully on every stroke?…..
Yes. I can probably increase the torque in the M7 to try and see if the press is not torquing all the down.

Tried to insert video but was too large. Here’s the video from YouTube explaining what my dies are to see if any of you can detect a problem right away.

Gonna try with new brass and see what that does
