  1. I posted this in another thread earlier, but I think it makes more sense to have it in this thread since it's 930 JM specific. I installed Noveske QD flush mounts on my 930 JM Pro so that I could use my VCAS QD sling with my shotgun as well as my ARs. I like the flexibility of QD slings/mounts and the ability to move one sling from one weapon to another.
  2. Those are Noveske QD flush mounts. They are not connected, they are just attached to the walls of the stock on both sides.
  3. This is the route I took with my 930 JM Pro; this way it can share the same slings I use with my ARs. Eventually, I want to get to the point where all my long guns have QD sockets on them to be able to move my slings from one weapon to another.
  4. I think cleaning the gun well before shooting it is more important than the break in itself. Both of my 930s were covered in some kind of thick, sticky and very dirty packing grease, so I'm not surprised a gun just out of the box would have issues. Clean it well and lube it properly, and you'll instantly see how much smoother the gun feels.
  5. I don't know much about shotgun fitting, but after spending a couple of hours on Google, fitting a shotgun doesn't seem to be as much of a mystery as people that fit shotguns for a living want you to believe. Now, spending 2 hours reading about it certainly didn't make me an expert, but I feel like I at least know what to look for when fitting a shotgun. I found these two videos to be very helpful in understanding the basics of shotgun fitting, as well as a couple of articles that came up in my search (see links below). http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=2113 http://www.julsonkennel.com/shooting-skills/fitting-a-shotgun/
  6. I just used a regular flat head screwdriver while pushing down on it and it worked fine. You do have to really lean onto it with all of your body weight to get the screw started, but then it's pretty easy after that. You could also try a flat head tip in a hammer drill.
  7. You use both a plastic shim(wedge)between the stock and reciever and a steel shim (offset hole plate) under the buttplate on the end of the buffer tube. The plastic shim/wedge just makes for a good fit between the stock and the reciever while the steel shim moves the stock up/down. You may want to check your length of pull, mine was too short causing my head to be too close to my thumb and too high (seeing the top of the rib) even with the stock shimmed down. But then again I don't know much about fitting a shotgun. David E. Thanks, David. The LOP is a little too short for me, too, but I think adding the drop shim will make it pretty close. I've never fitted a shotgun before, either, but I've spent a few hours reading about it and watching YouTube videos, so at least I have a rough idea of what I need to be looking for. I've seen somewhere that you're supposed to have about 2 fingers gap between your nose and the thumb of the strong hand, so it's something you could check for to see if your head is too close to your thumb.
  8. I think I need to drop my stock a little, too, and the .250 is the only drop shim available. Now, there is a set of plastic shims (that I'm assuming go between the receiver and the stock), and then there is a set of metal shims that look like they go on the tube inside the stock. Are they supposed to be used together (i.e. a plastic .250 shim along with the metal .250 shim), or do they serve different purposes and you only need to use one or the other?
  9. BudsGunShop.com has them in stock right now. Probably won't last long...
  10. Did you try removing the end cap and spring and try loading past 5 this way? Or simply pushing the follower past that point? I bet it's hanging up on the junction of the magazine tube and Nordic extension. I haven't had any problems loading mine, but I get quite a few follower "hang-ups" at the 5-th round when manually unloading the gun during dry-fire practice. I haven't done anything about it yet because I'm hoping it won't be an issue during live fire, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.
  11. So, if the JM comes with the 0.90" and holds 9+1. Would installing the 0.75" be enough to limit the gun to a 8+1 if the club required the lower round count? The 22" model comes set up as 8+1 from the factory, so you don't need to do anything if you can't have more than 8+1. But if you want to turn it into 9+1, all you have to do is replace the end cap with XXL. By looking at the picture posted above, it looks like the end cap that comes with the JM Pro is the shortest Nordic has, and is what they call "standard". Their extended end caps come in XL (.75") and XXL (1.5"), but it's not their overall length, but rather how much the "standard" end cap is extended by, i.e. the XL end cap is "standard" (.90") + .75", and the XXL end cap is .90" + 1.5".
  12. I haven't tried it yet, but I have the 1.5" end cap on the way just to see if it will give me an extra round. Please let us know how it turns out. I ordered the 1.5" end cap extension, Nordic part number CAP-XXL-12-00, it WILL give you an extra round in the tube. Huzzah! Awesome! Thanks for the update. I just hope the additional spring pressure on the first round (or less pressure on the subsequent rounds) doesn't cause any feeding problems.
  13. I use VCAS padded sling with my carbines and would like to adapt it to be used with the shotgun as well. My plan is to try installing Noveske Flush QD sling mount into the stock and see how that works. Ideally, I'd like to have the same mount installed into the handguard, but I don't think there is enough room there for it, so I'll probably have to use the DD QD rail mount on the Nordic clamp rail.
  14. If you want to get one from Bud's - check their website yourself periodically and don't rely on their notification system, it doesn't work. The JM Pro model has been in and out of stock at least half a dozen times over the past two weeks and I have yet to receive a single notification from them. Also, those who purchased their 9-shot models a couple of weeks ago for $570 or more, use their price guarantee service to get some of your money back. I filed the claim last week when I saw the price drop to $550 and just got my $20 back a couple of days ago.
  15. Why? If you load more than 8+1 before the buzzer your in open sometimes even after the buzzer. You can ghost load to get 9 +1 on the 22 inch model. Or you can just get the 24 inch JM to do 10 the easy way. I realize that, but most of my shooting is at local club "3-gun-style" or "tactical shotgun" matches where rules are either different or not enforced, so having an extra round would not hurt.
  16. I haven't tried it yet, but I have the 1.5" end cap on the way just to see if it will give me an extra round. Please let us know how it turns out.
  17. Thanks, looks like to decent changes. You just going to add the rear safety or swap out the front as well? Anyone else making alterations? I think the stock front sight may be to short for the add-on rear sight, so you may have to install both. Of course you could just install the rear sight and see how your POA/POI changes - it may just work fine as is.
  18. The only thing I'm replacing for now is the thumb safety. I may also order the extended Nordic end cap to see if it'll let me load 9 rounds in the tube instead of 8 (I have the 9 shot model). Finally, I may get a set of FO sights that clip on to the rib to give better accuracy with long range shots/slugs, but I'll shoot a few matched first to see how I do with just the front sight. What's the difference in the new thumb safety? What sight are you going to add, just rear, make/model? I installed this safety on my SPX and like the way it feels. It's wider than stock safety and is easier to operate IMO. For the sights, it will probably be one of the HiViz sets that clamp on to the rib. I don't know the model number, but I saw a set on my buddy's M2 and liked the way they looked. Something similar to this, although the ones he had looked smaller.
  19. The only thing I'm replacing for now is the thumb safety. I may also order the extended Nordic end cap to see if it'll let me load 9 rounds in the tube instead of 8 (I have the 9 shot model). 20. You may be right. I'm just going to leave it alone for now since I don't think it's really needed (there isn't much overtravel to begin with, IMO). I mostly just didn't want the screw sticking out the back of the trigger guard.
  21. That's actually a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I wouldn't go as far as using Loctite on it, but I'll try moving the end cap back a little (as far as threads will allow) and see if the 9th round will pop in.
  22. That overtravel screw seems to be useless on this shotgun. I also didn't like it digging into my finger, so I drove it all the way in to where the head of the screw is flush with the back of the trigger guard, and it's still not even touching the trigger (there is still about 1/16" gap there).
  23. Mine loads 8 without much effort (although I don't really have anything to compare it to, so it may be tighter compared to other shotguns), and it looks like it only needs another 3/4" - 1" to load the 9th round in there. With that said, I looked on the Nordic's website, and see that they offer 3 different end cap sizes - "standard", 0.75" and 1.5". The end cap that came with the 930 JM measures at 0.90", so I'm not sure if it's the "standard" one, or some "custom" size made specifically for this model. I'm tempted to buy their 1.5" end cap and see if it allows me to load 9th round with it. Has anyone tried it yet?
  24. Finally picked mine up today from my FFL (been sitting there since Tuesday, so it's been the longest week ever). Everything function-checked OK, but the action felt gritty, like there was sand inside. Broke it completely down for cleaning, and it must have been the filthiest new gun I've ever seen. My SPX was also dirty, but not quite as dirty. After about an hour, half a roll of paper shop towels and a little of Slip 2000, everything feels very smooth, and I'm sure putting a couple hundred rounds through it will make it feel even better. Now I just need to find some time and actually go shoot it...
