Taking Timney trigger out of MPX Gen3... Now what to do with it?
vgdvc replied to vgdvc's topic in Pistol Caliber Carbine
Thanks for the input. I may call Timney and ask their opinion of options. -
I am about to install a Hyper touch 24 3gun in my factory MPX competition model to replace the Timney trigger that breaks at about 4 and 1/2 lb. Today I got to handle a competitor's MPX that he purchased a Tmney aftermarket to put in his Gen 2. It is significantly better, much lighter very crisp. The housing in my factory MPX timney is black anodized and it has a red hammer spring. The aftermarket that he purchased is gold anodized housing and Silver Spring. Does anyone know what the low-down maybe with the differences of the two?

Taking Timney trigger out of MPX Gen3... Now what to do with it?
vgdvc replied to vgdvc's topic in Pistol Caliber Carbine
Yeah. I have a Hipertouch 24 3Gun that is not being used I'm going to install in the MPX. I believe the same as a 24c just essentially with a curved trigger -
So the initial impressions with the MPX gen 3 competition I just received is pretty much WoW! Starting to put some goodies on it and getting it ready for matches and I am seeing that although the Timney has a crisp break it has settled in at about 4 lbs 9 oz. Not bad but because of the low recoil I can see where a 2.5 lb trigger ( read Hiperfire 24 C) would be a plus. Other than seeing if an MPX owner with a stock trigger would be interested in it has anyone successfully used it in a standard AR platform rifle?

Federal Syntech 130gr PCC loads... Deconstructed!
vgdvc replied to vgdvc's topic in Pistol Caliber Carbine
Hey,thanks. Yes hard to improve upon the wheel it's been working good for a long time. Now to work up load development as it would pertain to a PCC regarding recoil sensation, function etc. to keep in spirit with the PCC forum -
Federal Syntech 130gr PCC loads... Deconstructed!
vgdvc replied to vgdvc's topic in Pistol Caliber Carbine
According to the Alliant load data on their website Sport Pistol is described to be clean burning and have burn characteristics that supports itself well with the use of polymer coated projectiles. Acme124gr rn NLG with 3.9gr is listed at 1066fps. This is from pistol length barrel. Going to try to get my hands on some and see how it works with 135gr poly. If anybody interested is able to formulate a similar load please share results. I will do the same once I get a hold of some powder. -
Federal Syntech 130gr PCC loads... Deconstructed!

I don't disagree with the post above yours that it would be a proprietary powder Federal is using but worth looking into Alliant Sport Pistol. Would be interesting to see if load data supports 3.9gr ASP and a similar type of projectile ( ex. IBE Je Heads 135gr poly) at an approx. listed 1030 FPS. for the Syntech. Anyone have experience with Alliant Sport Pistol and 9 mm loadings? -
Federal Syntech 130gr PCC loads... Deconstructed!
vgdvc replied to vgdvc's topic in Pistol Caliber Carbine
Definitely not CFE pistol, bigger wafers. It's a solid wafer,no center hole as described in op. If it gives 1030fps as Federsl claims it should have faster side medium burn rate -
Hello PCC ammo reloaders. So it seems the 130 grain Federal Syntec PCC loads are very soft and mild recoiling. Being a reloader and curious I deconstructed one to do a little forensics and see if I could decipher what powder is being used. Powder is 3.9 grains and it is a smaller diameter, medium thickness wafer style. Color is predominantly dark gray with some black Wafers mixed in and very few beige color wafers as well. All appear to be same size overall. Reference for size seems to fall in between something such as Universal Clays and CFE pistol. Oal is 1.126. Bullet length is .642. Bullet weight is130.1gr. Missing part of the equation is knowing what powder. Sure would be nice to duplicate this with reloading. Anyone with any additional input would be great to hear from.

Hmmmm again. I have Todd Jarrett's cell #, a family member of mine has a business doing professional wedding, event videos... Wouldn't that be interesting.
-
Hmmm. 69 views but no responses in 24 hrs. Looks like there's definitely some interest but no material available. Hopefully some producer will realize this is a fast-growing ,upcoming division and get someone like Josh Froelich ,Max Leograndis,Todd Jarrett, Lena Miculek etc. and produce a quality video on basic and advanced training.

Ok, so there is an abundance of DVDs featuring top ranked shooters in the pistol divisions giving/showing their expert advise as well as professional DVDs of world and National shoots etc. Has anyone come across such type DVDs regarding the PCC division?

Nice. If you don't mind, what section in a H.Depot would you find them( it's a big store LOL)

Mine is the 16" carbine BTW

Hello. I'm running an ATI 9mm mil spec. Your on the right track with cleaning everything well after disassembly. Once it does grab the rim of an unfired round, with the magazine out, can you pull the bolt back and will it stay in place before it hits the ejector? That would indicate good extractor tension. I would also polish and de bur contact points on the extractor and a related area. I dont believe the case rim slides up under the extractor coming out of the magazine before it gets chambered as it would with a 9 mm Glock pistol for example. The extractor hops over the rim once the bolt is at forward position. If there is a bur or something preventing it from hopping over the rim it will not catch it to extract. I believe you are not seeing this problem when firing because the empty fired case pushing back against the bolt face fully will cause the extractor to grab the rim coming out of battery. Contact their customer support. Get yourself some extra parts. I did that with mine. They are very helpful and very reasonable on backup parts one might need.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't seen one up close yet but they look very compact and Com Tac does make good quality. Glad to hear they can hold 41 round sticks without issue.

Yep I hear what you're saying. I have had the luxury of simply using CR speed mag pouches for my Glock mag fed AR9 up until this point. The Shooks Custom looks pretty compact, got to see them on a shooter this weekend.Take a look at the and C.B Kydex they look compact as well and have multiple mounting options. Safariland 7 7 4 also seems to have a small profile with mounting options but it's not clear to me how to find which model is for the MPX on their website. Com tac looks like a very strong ontender also for being compact and having rotation abilities.

Hello. Looking to get opinions on mag pouch selections for the MPX. I did research and found some older threads that touch on the topic. I believe some new makes have come on the market since. Shooks Custom looks like a nice option I haven't seen mentioned and possibly C.B. Kydex. Weber Tactical, RHT, Safariland and Comtac are names that have been mentioned. Just wondering what the latest consensus has from trial and error in the field, thanks.

Damn! I'll check that set up out. Is there a specialty mag spring to use with such?. Lot of weight on the mag release,no?
-
Hmmm.. When I get one in my hands I may get back to you about details. Thanks

Thanks for the input. Probably worth having one 20. I'll check out the mag pouches also.
