  1. You will love it; I have SP01 got several months back and did my own work with CGW parts it turned out great! I learn a lot about the SP01 during the process; it is my first but not last CZ.
  2. I totally agree I did get a great deal from local dealer NIB SP01 for $585 plus tax. CGW parts and sights right at $900 and I have a unbelievable gun with a smooooth trigger. Kneelingatlas I need to give you a public THANK YOU and also thanks to others. I followed your threads and learn a lot about my CZ while doing the work myself. It was the biggest job I have tackled and look forward to doing another gun. I have a buddy that may buy mine and I may do another one for myself not sure if I can part with it though.

    Which Sp01?

Dave go with the SP01. I got a great deal from my buddy gun dealer $585 plus tax for my SP01. Talked to David at CGW ordered parts and comp sights and did my back yard gunsmith job on it. It was a big job for me but I took my time and it turned out great so I have a great gun for around $900 that compares with my buddies custom shadow that was $1300+. If you are blindfolded you cannot tell the difference in guns; David from CGW will tell you this is the best value out there. I also feel much better in that I can tear a CZ down and put it back together; there is a self confidence in that.
  4. I am trying this as we speak. I am good to go took grips off and released hammer spring I think it was bound up and putting more pressure on magazine that it should have. Thanks that was easy fix.
  5. I don't think so when I hit mag release the magazine releases good and drops about a 1/2 inch and then just hangs up.
  6. The factory magazines do not drop from gun is this normal? I have to pull them out. I know they will loosen up with more use but not sure they will loosen up enough? I am thinking about sanding with very fine sandpaper 800-1000 wet dry where I see they have been rubbing is this a good idea or bad? Any suggestions?
  7. New to CZ and my SP01 still has factory rubber; they are ugly but seem to work pretty well. It seems like a lot of people like the factory rubber ones; I may give VZ a try down the road.
  8. I have new CGW sights sitting on desk right now I don't have them installed yet. I just finished upgrading my SP01 with CGW parts and the trigger is fantastic! I don't have gauge to measure it I need to go to buddies and see exactly where it is pulling.
  9. I went with base SP01 had my favorite dealer order in and took delivery at gun show a few weeks back. $585 cash price plus tax. I have Cajun gun parts on there way. This will be the biggest gun job I have tackled I hope I can get it back together!
  10. Yes thanks for your tuning thread; I am a few weeks away from doing the tuning. I just picked up my NIB SP01 yesterday at the gun show $585 plus tax. I got a great deal I love these gun shows. I have purchased many guns from this dealer he got it in for me last week. I plan on putting some rounds through it in the next few weeks and then get some CGW parts and start the kneelingatlas tuning.
  11. I have or will have this Saturday the SP01. David at CGW has been getting regular SP01 with some very good trigger pulls. I will be putting order in tomorrow for Shadow Hammer Kit, Sights, SRS Firing Pin, hammer spring etc; I will have a pretty good USPSA Production gun for under $900. I got one good deal on NIB SP 01 for $586 cash from a dealer I have been buying from for close to 20 years.
  12. I agree sights are top priority and I think I will go with CGW like you recommend that is what I am leaning toward. I have done sights before so should be pretty basic job. I will be ordering some parts on Monday and should have them here and ready to go when I pick my gun up next Saturday. Thanks for the suggestions and good ideas!
  13. Yes I will just take my time and I should be good; I am just afraid of losing small spring or another small part but not big deal I just order one if I do. What is STRS you are talking about??
  14. Thanks I look forward to being in the CZ Club! I have talked to both and they both seem very good from CS standpoint. I am sure you cannot go wrong with CGW or CZC!
  15. Pretty easy...CGW sights have the front sight notched out already so no need to drill it. You'll just have to drift out the rear sight from left to right (and install right to left) when looking from the rear of the gun. Thanks I have changed Glock sights and they are really easy wasn't sure about the CZ and I don't have gun yet to look at so I wasn't sure.
  16. I can definitely afford more but have bought a lot of guns recently so wanted to start with SP01 and do the work myself and learn more about CZ platform; I am new to CZ. I don't see much on changing out sights is it easy to throw on some FO from CGW for a do it yourselfer?
  17. Here's my tuning thread with lots of pictures: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=191773&page=1 If you want the extended safeties and mag release of the Shadow post a WTT ad here, there are some guys who prefer the slim controls. Thanks kneelingatlas; you seem to be the resident expert! I have already spent much time reading your tuning thread very good stuff and I have learned a lot from it. I do have to admit the little guy with the helmet you use kind of scares me!
  18. I will be joining the CZ crowd in a little over a week. I will be getting my new SP01 at that time. Probably will go with Cajun upgrades but want to keep in USPSA Production legal. This forum has been great I've learned a lot. Been gun owner and occasional shooter for 30 years but just shot my first CZ the other night it was a SP01 with some nice upgrades. I loved it very smooth!
  19. Thanks for all the great ideas; this forum has been great I have learned a lot. I won't get gun until Saturday Sept 27 my dealer buddy is located 100+ miles away and I am just waiting until large gun show he attends in my area to take delivery. That gives me time to keep reading about how to do my own upgrades to gun.
  20. I agree. Why mess around trying to get all those parts when you can buy a great gun out-of-the-box. No worries, no headaches as eveything works. They come with a great trigger! I personally like working on my guns so I don't mind doing the work myself (being a mechanical engineer, it's fun and I consider it a hobby). This is how I would do my upgrades: Sights of your choice SRS-2 kit from CGW (or parts that are included in the kit) Potentially a lighter recoil spring (I use an 11#) Grips of your choice That will put you right at the $200 mark (or slightly over). You could polish up the factory sear, trigger bar, and hammer if you don't mind doing the work yourself (see kneelingatlas's thread or others out there) Then with a bit more money you can get: T2 disconnector from CGW to drop into your SP01 (T1 if you want to fit it yourself and squeeze every mil out of the tolerance stack and get the shortest reset out of your gun) and Hammer from CGW or CZC (for production: CGW has a re-profiled shadow hammer that fits the SP01 and CZC has a CZ-UB hammer - not sure if they recut the hooks? don't have much experience with it). Billet sear from CGW since it's easier to tune if the safety doesn't engage properly (optional) Here are a few items that I would also do for reliability, or ease of installation: Reduced trigger return spring and floating trigger pin from CGW Solid firing pin retaining pin Hammer/Disconnect pin Spare parts: Slide stop Mag springs Trigger Return Spring I think when all said and done, $1000 will get you an awesome CZ that contends with the SP01 Shadow Custom with a decent % in savings. But that's just me and my 2 cents Very well said cjfung! You did a great job of explaining my reasoning when looking at getting the SP01. I am looking at it as a great opportunity to learn about the CZ platform. There are many resources on this forum and others and also youtube. Thanks for your opinion on upgrades that was very helpful!
  21. Thanks for reminding them guys about budget! I got very good on SP01 for a great price $600 and should have a pretty nice gun for $800-$1000 range. I shot a Shadow Target and SP01 that a guy at the club put together and very little difference between the two. I just did not want to spend $1300-$1500 at this time and I get the joy of working on my gun!
  22. The more I think about it I think FO sights are a must do I really need to change hammer at this time if I am watching the budget?
  23. I have been looking at SP01, Shadows, Shadow customs etc but ended up getting deal from LGS that I have done a lot of business on new SP01 cash price less than $600. I may end up trading another gun for it which would be zero out of pocket we have not made final deal yet but cash price is still an option. I am new to USPSA and want to upgrade on a budget for now. What are must upgrades for $200 or less? I will be doing it myself changing parts and polishing where needed (there are many good threads and youtube videos out there). What would you do first? Where to get part? I think I will use Cajun Gun Works any other suggestions would be appreciated? I know FO sights would eat a big chuck of budget so I may increase budget some or wait a while on sights.
  24. I understand one is rail and one no rail but he SP 01 Shadow Custom is like $1300 because it has a lot more internal custom work. There are so many models and options my head is spinning being that I am new to CZ's. I need to make some calls to CZC and CGW this week.
