Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Just ordered Champion Shooting - Ben Stoeger. Will work my way through several others soon. Winter reading!
  2. Stuart, awesome & thorough. It'll take time just to digest all the info. Many thanks, Pat.
  3. Welcome on board. Looking forward to your posts.
  4. Now that I bought it, I'd also recommended Stoeger's "Skills and Drills." This book and "Dry Fire Techniques" act as companion pieces. You'll pay $45+ between them but it's cheap money, given all the tremendous information. I give Stoeger 5 stars for intelligent & sage advice.
  5. First post. Shot "Walls of Steel," my first steel competition, on 10/26/14. Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club, Harrisville, RI. Decent weather but cool: 50 F plus some wind. Category: Stock auto. Shot a Beretta 92 FS. Six stages with about 25-27 targets each. 151 plates total. Great ROs and great organization. I placed about 3/4s back in the pack. I found I was accurate but slow. Shot average was about 1.2 rounds per plate. Took down the Texas Star in 7 shots; amazed myself. Lessons learned: Speed PLUS accuracy counts. Smoothness does not translate into speed. All of my fast draw practice didn't matter: we started in easy ready position on all stages. Have to learn to drive the gun's sights to the targets at high speed during live practice. Hm, 20,000 rds (50,000?) to get there & achieve both speed and accuracy? Can hear Ben Stoeger shouting in my ear... Dry fire, dry fire!
  6. Great running diary. I've enjoyed reading these from the 1st to last. Nice.
  7. Whoops: +1 to that. I called Wilson about a week ago on this and got the same info. Now, regarding the "new model," it could well be that Wilson's new tactical pistol confused everyone, and there'll be no other new Beretta model. And I hope I'm wrong.
  8. They're projecting production of a 1,000, extended now into 2015. There's an extended discussion on the Beretta forum (415+ replies) about this gun. http://berettaforum.net/vb/showthread.php?t=111356
  9. Yes, and good to see Beretta starting to bring on new/old models.
  10. I've used an extended mag (Beretta mag on my 92 & Wilson on my 96) for some time and never had a RO question the guns.
  11. Thanks, Magzs. Think I'll double down & run against the timer for better speed. And accelerate getting the fiber optic sights & trigger work done. You guys have been great (& reassuring) w/ the advice.
  12. Whoops, why depart on 454 posts? Ha! Thanks to all for the comments. I've already added d-springs to both my 92 and 96FS, as well as extended mag releases and adjustable target sights. I'm planning to have trigger work done as I'd like 'em both to pull to around 3 lbs. That and fiber optic sights are on the horizon. I wasn't aware Stoeger used a Beretta for a couple years. Very cool as he's up there in the pantheon. My question arose after speaking to a far better IDPA shooter who marveled that I was shooting a gun with "so many disadvantages." He was suggesting a 1911 Sig Target stainless, and may have dumped some doubt on me at a moment when I'd had a less than stellar afternoon at the range.
  13. Opinions? I'm beginning to have second thoughts about competing with either my 92FS or 96. I shoot both quite accurately, but the safety and DA initial shot are slowing me down. I know I'm probably hunting split seconds, but... Anyone else using either Beretta competitively? If so, I'd love to hear how you've compensated (or if you feel you've needed to!) Pat
  14. My Pocket Pro II is just fine, and is about $40 less. I was skeptical at first, but have only kudos for the beast.
