you likely wont find anyone that's seriously running a revo that's not using Federals, the difference is so big. if your racing with CCI does it really matter if its a 8 or 9lb trigger? I have a couple guns that I have tuned to eat anything and in reality a 9lb trigger is not much different to run than a 6lb one

Oh I fully understand that about the Federals, I was just trying to answering the OP's question is there any benefit to bobbing the hammer and I think with a bobbed hammer you can run a lighter trigger to still set off harder primers vs one with a spur still on. With the primer situation these days one may have to look at what ever is available.

I don't think you can find any data other than anecdotal on the differences.  Maybe someone can set up a gauge to measure the impact at the firing pin with different weight/configurations of hammers?  But even then you'd have to calculate not only force but dwell time?  If anyone could go, or has gone, to that extreme my bet is it would be Randy Lee at Apex.

    So my anecdotal evidence is:

625PC sent to Apex where they chopped the hammer and gave it a 4 1/2# action.  Worked for most of a season then I started getting light strikes.  For me 1 in a practice session is too many.  So I adjusted the springs to bring it up to a 5 1/2# action with no issues using the same chopped hammer.

627PC put the above hammer in and worked up a 5 1/2# action with no light strikes.

Got a 325TR for EDC and transferred the above hammer to it with a 7 1/2# action and it lights off everything.  I don't have an issue with hammer spurs hitting my hand, but for EDC a spur is very problematic.

Put the original hammer back into the 627PC, smoothed and tuned of course, retaining the spur and with no change in the springs it still has a reliable 5 1/2# action with no light strikes.

Have a 627Pro with original hammer and I did an action job on it and it's 5 3/4# with no light strikes.  I'm sure I can get it down further with a bit more work, just don't have time right now.

625PC with a spurred hammer sits at 6#'s with no issues.  I think if I worked on it a bit more I could get it down to 5 1/2#.

So long story short down to 5 1/2#'s I've been able to have a reliable action with a spur.  If going below that everything gets a lot more finicky.  A slight increase in headspace or end shake due to many round fired will cause a reliable 5# action to start acting up.  Bent moon clips, excessive carbon in the chambers can in varying degrees cause an issue.  So I came to the conclusion that long term reliability was more important than a super light action and settled on 5 1/2 to 6#'s as my goal.

As a side note below 5# Actions seem to cause me to short stroke just as much as a 10# action.  That relay between my central computer and the trigger finger servo seemed to compute a 1911 style trigger and return.  I practiced several thousand rounds and many months and under stress the glitch would show up!  Finally decided it was better for me to focus on the fundamentals with what worked for me.  I've been happy with the results.

I would assume that all of of this was with fully seated Federal primers? How much would it change if you were to use harder CCI primers. I think that is where a bigger difference would show up in the pros or cons of bobbed or not.

I am making an assumption that Squads 1-8 will also match the classifier stage order of SC-101 thru SC-108?  Is this typical set up for full 8 stage matches?

Plenty of time left but I am seeing squads slowly get filled in.

    Thanks.

I don't think that you can count on that. For instance at my range the size of the bays determine what stage will fit in it, and we have numbered bays and that numbering does not change. The MD can and usually does change the order to the ones that are actually in the bays. I would say that squad 1 will start in stage 1/bay 1 but I couldn't tell you what SC number it will be unless you are at my range.

Ohh now I have to add this to the decision list.

You would do well to check out all of Tim's stuff. This is one choice and he is the only one that makes a light weight barrel for the S&W 15-22, I just got done with one of those and it comes in at 3lbs 6ozs, super light for a 15-22.

    Thanks for the initial feedback.

.  I also run a reduced recoil spring.

Have you found a place that you can get a reduced recoil spring for 15-22? I have them in my 10-22 from Kidd, but I can't find one for the M&P

  6. The 1st fail was with a Golden Bullet, the next one were Federal 40gr plated. I weighed the gun before and it was 4lbs. and 15.4oz, now it is 3lbs 8.8oz.

The chamber is supposed to be sporter . When I took it back apart the first time I ran my sport finish reamer into it and it cleaned up a little but the polishing on the feed ramp and that area of the chamber edge seemed to solve the feed/chamber problem. But prior to doing that I tried several bullets and they all dropped in and out, it was just a really sharp edge right on top of the feed ramp that I think was the issue. The bullets that would not feed had a bit of lead shaved up and would not chamber, I marked a couple of bullets on the top to check before I took it back apart and that is where it indicated was the problem. I also hand cycled several rounds prior to taking it back apart and all went in and ejected but some were shaving a bit of lead on the bottom portion next to the ramp.

  7. I am going to agree with what Hoops just said about the M&P 15-22, They just work! The mags are nowhere near as sensitive as the 10-22 mags are and they are not as picky of eaters as the 10-22. I went down that rabbit hole with light and sexy/cool guns with my Magnum Research switchbolt, and wiland chassis, but they are ammo sensitive as to what will reliably work in them. Now is not  the best time to be picky about what ammo you will buy or use.

Now if you want to join me going down another rabbit hole, Taccom3g is building so really nice light weight stuff for the M&P 15-22 so if you have the urge to tinker or put it on a diet, there are things out that can be done. But for me it is an enjoyable chase.

  8. Well still no trigger yet, but went and run several different types of ammo through it. On the first two mags I had fail to feed and go into battery. When home took it back apart and smoothed out the feed ramp and throat then polished every thing up. When back out and tried it again and things worked way better. I do not have any SV ammo everything I have is HV. I ran a couple mags of each, Rem Golden Bullet 36gr HP, Blazer 40gr RN, Federal 36gr Hp, Federal 40gr RN plated, Federal 40gr RN lead, CCI Clean Coated 40gr RN, CCI Mini Mags 40gr plated, Eley Action Plus 42gr lead RN, and some Eley Force 42gr RN lead.

Out of all of this I had 3 FTF. [fail to fire] No feed problems and everything cycled. The 3 FTF all came on the second shot from the mag. I didn't pay enough attention if it was the same mag or not. The first shot fired the action cycled and chambered the round, but did not reset the firing pin/trigger? There was no marks on the shell and it was fully chambered, they did go off when I loaded them back in to try again. This was with two different brands of ammo. I sprayed the action out and ran it "wet" for the remainder of this trial. I am running the stock recoil spring and the stock hammer spring with the yellow JP lighter trigger spring that has been pretty dependable with 10-15,000 rounds prior to this.

I also put Taccom3g blowback carbon fiber handguard on this , it doesn't really save much weight 6oz compared to 6.30z but the good part about using this handguard is you do not have to use the extended barrel nut tool for assembly or take down now.

Still waiting on the CMC 2lb trigger to get here and a Crazy Ivan pistol grip.

If you drop your revolver on the hammer hard enough to break the hammer pivot, it's the only thing preventing a boom.

They do not affect trigger pull as it is gravity pulling them down when you are operating the trigger.

And if you don't have a hammer on the gun like a lot of us?

I will vouch for the Geiselle SG-3G in the 15-22.   I went thru several triggers looking for a even and HARD hit on firing pin.  This is it.   We also ordered their Match set springs and used the light spring for the trigger only.  This will give you a 2 lb trigger with the hard hitting hammer spring.  Good to go.

Did you try the CMC? I see it is available in a 2-2.5 lb trigger. Most places are 4 to 8 weeks out on the SG-3G.
