Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I mounted an RMR on my 9L with the dovetail mount to get my feet wet in CO without cutting up my slide. I have only had a chance to fool around with it, but it's very fun. I'm planning to shoot a match with it this weekend and will report back how it goes
  2. I just wanted to throw in that I have a stock SP-01 that I worked over with Atlas's guide as well as an ACCU-Shadow. I did everything I could to the SP-01, all the polishing, short reach trigger, lighter springs and comp hammer. The ACCU Shadow I gave a light polish internally. My SP-01 breaks at 3.5lbs SA, my ACCU breaks at 4lbs. DA is about a pound or two lighter with the SP-01 as well. The trigger has a longer reset but otherwise is better. So buy yourself a stock SP-01 and don't worry about it
  3. I would just like to say that I completed all of the steps described here on my stock sp-01. I also added a short reach disco from CGW. It now has a trigger that breaks at 3.5lbs, around 8 double. I also have an ACCU Shadow that I gave a light polishing but not much else. It's trigger breaks at 4 lbs, and around 10 double. The trigger has a shorter reset on the ACCU and a shorter overall travel, but otherwise the trigger on my regular SP-01 is actually better. Just so you folks know what you're working with here
  4. Atlas- How do you attach your comps while staying legal in CA. Handguns aren't allowed to have threaded barrels so how do you get around that rule? I'm asking because I just moved to CA and want to build myself a nice O-10 gun for... reasons. I guess mainly just because it looks like a fun project for an aspiring shade tree gunsmith like myself.
  5. I would like to say that I have an SP-01 (with firing pin block) that I did almost all of this to. I just got an ACCU Shadow and other than the reset, the trigger on my regular SP-01 is better. Now I get to pull apart my ACCU and do it all again. Lucky me!
  6. If you moved the sight within the dovetail that could be why the pin won't go back in. the pin goes into a slot that is drilled through the sight that it lines up with. When you put in a new front sight it has to be re-drilled, so if you moved it you have to move it back to where it was. It only covers a small bit of the pin hole by the way, but enough to matter
  7. I had this problem with a stock safety on an SP01. I added an extended safety and use it as a thumb rest for my strong hand thumb. Gives me a nice high grip too. Just got an ACCU and it has the extended safeties as well and resting my thumb on it has just become a natural part of my high grip. I wouldn't use anything else now, and on guns without it I miss it.
  8. +1 for the Dawson adjustable sights. I shoot the .1 wide front fiber with the adjustable rear. It's fantastic and you can adjust them however you want
  9. I've been shoot my 9L a fair amount, and I've noticed when I dry fire, the sights tend to bounce a little bit to the right after a dry fire. not enough to even move the front sight out of the dovetail, but enough to notice if I'm paying close attention. It doesn't matter how slowly I pull the trigger. I'm shooting with an apex competition kit, but with the factory trigger spring and (after some very frustrating soft strikes at a match) a stock striker spring. Even with the lighter springs though the sights still bounce a little to the right. In live fire my shots go straight where I aim them and I don't have this problem with any other gun. It almost seems like when the striker falls it pushes the gun off to the side. Has anyone else noticed something like this? I feel like I'm losing my mind.
  10. I think there is a profound life lesson here...
  11. Lots of choices, Jinn707 got the main USPSA matches, here's a few more, and those are just USPSA, here's short list with approx drive time from San Francisco: Main SF Bay Area ones: Richmond Hotshots, Richmond - 1st & 3rd Sunday (25 min) Diablo Action Pistol, Concord - 2nd Sunday (40 min) TASC, Castro Valley - 2nd and 4th Saturday (40 min) Others not far, not complete list NCPS, Sacramento - 4th Sunday (2 hr) Solano Targetmasters, Davis - 2nd Sunday (1hr 20 min) Oakdale Sportsmen, Oakdale - 3rd Sunday (2 hr) San Luis Action Pistol, San Luis Obispo, - 2nd Saturday (3hr 45 min) Thanks for the info from both. It looks like there will be more local matches in the Bay Area than there are for me in the Florida Panhandle. Makes me feel a lot better about my move. I'm sure I'll see you both on the range.
  12. I wish I had endless money cause I could buy a bunch of hard to find things and sell them at a profit, but such is life. Thanks for the heads up on the 929 being on the roster, that means I can wait on if until later. I may end up just trying to get a 75 shadow custom, or a 75 shadow. The CTS LS-P just looks so cool... I saw Angus interviewed at SHOT (in the other thread) say he is trying to sell enough LS-Ps to get them legal. If he can sell $1700 Accu Shadows, then these should go too with luck. I have to wait on the tax return for now. Also TRGT, I'm moving to the SF Bay. Where do you go to shoot USPSA in the area? That is actually far more important than what new toy I decide to bring back with me...
  13. So I have been shooting an SP-01 (non Shadow) that I have done a lot of work on and quite enjoy. Unfortunately (from a gun perspective) I'm moving from Florida to California. I can bring anything with me when I move (subject to some limitations) but once I'm there I'm relatively stuck with the roster. I want to buy something really nice to take with me, and the CTS LS-P looks like just the ticket. I was wondering if CZ Custom had plans to make and sell enough of these to make them production legal, because that would make it an easy decision. If they aren't, it may be more worth it to get a 75 Shadow Custom instead since I will be able to use it more for competitions. And ACCU Shadow is a thought too, but I already have an SP-01 and want something more different (I know ACCUs are on another level, but still). Alternatively I may just end up with a S&W 929 but that is a different train of thought altogether.
  14. The ideal sights seem to be Dawson Adjustable and Fiber front. Would you all recommend using .160T like the stock M&P sights or going with something taller?
