  1.  Ah, no-- look closely at your Stoeger shims. You can flip them around-- I did-- to pull the gun away from my (left-handed) face. I'd say this is a big selling point for the Stoeger that no one is mentioning. So yes, you can change the cast, though maybe not in the increments you desire. I'm hoping someone will make a fancier set of the shims, or something. But it worked for me. One trip to the range, and I got the cast and drop correct with the shims. Dead on at 16 yards, thrown to shoulder. Doesn't much matter for 3-gun, but it does for skeet and trap. I was wondering why the shims said R and L on them, I'm assuming the R side facing out will push the stock to the right? I honestly don't remember. Look at them though-- they're thicker on side than the other. I'm going to guess that one could cleverly stack them, some L and some rotated R, to get some control over cast, as well as drop. Cast isn't really a big deal with shotguns-- they don't kick much. Safari guns do though-- and that's where big money is spent on getting the cast right so it doesn't break your cheekbone. FWIW.

  3. More stock options for the 3000. http://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/stoeger-stocks-forends/33390
  4. Which is a copy of the Tuffpak, more or less. Same idea, anyway.
  5. Well.... the safari crowd is pretty much sold on Tuffpaks. Put your guns in your soft case, place in Tuffpak. Pad with clothing. Lock. Check. Fret not.
  6. Yeah, 3gun is a game. The shotgun part is the most divorced from defensive use though. In the real world, no one wears shell caddies... It's either on the gun, or you pretty much don't have it. Besides, how many shells is it going to take to get you to your rifle anyway? That's what you need to be moving toward, if there are that many bad guys... The shotgun is awesome, but the rate of fire cannot compare to a magazine-fed rifle. It's still fun though.
  7. I guess he beat me to it, but here's mine. Note big-headed double-sided safety.sg3.jpg sg1.jpg sg2.jpg I'd love to see pics of the internals! Jesse, Which internals do you mean? The cocking knob has had an extra groove added, so it will work on either side. Or do you mean the safety? I need to shoot it Sunday; I'm not going to have time to take it apart until after that. Maybe Tom will chime in with pics.

  9. I'll break out the camera tonight...
  10. I got my Stoeger back from Tom last Friday, and I really like what he did. I have the new big double-headed safety, which seems to be fine. Cut the stock down-- that makes it feel like a different gun. And moved the bolt handle to the left, as I'm left-handed. Plus the usual other work. It ran flawlessly at the local club match Sunday, though not a lot of shotgun shooting there. The real test will be Noveske Atlanta 3-gun this weekend. Say "hello" if you see the guy with the bolt handle on the left...
  11. I'd be interested in this myself-- I agree with the above. Putting it on is more important to me.
  12. What choke are you running? I ran a Carlson extended "Skeet" choke yesterday. It's the "Benelli Crio Plus" type, if that's what you are asking.
  13. Regarding price: I paid $430 for a 26" M3K back about two months ago. That was in Atlanta, FWIW. Put 70-ish Fed birdshot and 5 Rem slugs through mine today at the Noveske Atlanta 3-gun match. Zero problems. Hadn't sighted in with slugs since I put on a tube clamp and new choke, but no problem with silhouettes at 40 yards... Five for five. Many others were having trouble with slugs, from what I saw.
  14. Most excellent! I'm in for one...
  15. Well, that's what I wanted to know. Sounds like it's only worth the trouble in very particular circumstances. I'll just continue to blast one target with each shot. Thank you for the feedback; it's good to hear. Changing the subject a bit-- it is interesting to hear about folks around the country changing shot sizes-- the matches around here (Atlanta) require 7.5 or smaller (except for slug targets). Also, from what I've seen here in Georgia, the rifle shots are always 100 yards or less, just due to the range limitations. My AR shoots very sub-moa with good ammo, and I'm a long range kind of guy. If I get reasonably good around here, I'm going to see some of y'all out west... if it's under 300, I don't really need a scope, and where's the fun in that? Kuduman
  16. Roxy, I want to hear the pistol-grip speech.
  17. I'm new at 3-gun, and am wondering: With spreader loads, do you ever successfully break multiple clays at once? I'd love to hear about it. What choke, distance, which spreader load, etc.
  18. I'm hoping Choate or ATI jumps on the bandwagon, offering a shorter LOP stock. I'd sure like to knock mine back an inch. Don't care about a better pad; this thing doesn't hurt me. But it catches on my shirt, too. But I may just have to bite the bullet and have a 'smith cut it down and fit another pad. Why all these shotguns don't come with short stocks and spacer pads, I'll never understand.
  19. Folks, this is useful info-- but it would be a lot more useful if you included your magazine length, and whether you tested these shells with a full magazine. Full magazine (maximum mass) is the worst case for an inertia gun. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that a stock 3K would cycle with some weak shells-- and a ten-shot version, fully loaded-- would not.
  20. I shot mine for the first time yesterday-- ran 100 of the Federal Wal-Mart shells (the cheap stuff in the bulk pack). Zero issues.
  21. Thanks guys. That's what I needed to know.
  22. Perhaps I'm not being clear. Mine has four flat-top areas spaced out down the grooves on the top of the receiver. Are those some sort of plugs? If so, how does one safely remove them? Punch them out from inside the receiver? There are no visible holes. If it's "drilled and tapped", the holes are plugged. Though mined looks like it is NOT drilled and tapped. Which is why I'm asking. I don't have access to another one to compare against.
  23. So this thread induced me to buy an M3000. Wish I had a 24, but got a great deal on a 26". $430 plus tax, FWIW. Elite Pawn in Conyers, for any Georgia readers. Anyway, what's the deal with the plugged-up holes in the top of the receiver? Are they already drilled, or are those just indicating the places to drill? I haven't poked at them to see if they're something other than aluminum.
