  1. I believe the Patent is on the grip only. The frame is not protected. But their website says europe sales only.

I believe the patent is 5,293,708 which covers a grip/frame assembly. It doesn't expire until 2014. It covers both the frame and the grip.

From what I heard from Dawson, it is how the grip attaches to the frame. But then again what you wrote is correct.

    Just being picky.

  2. The black base pad is the original +2 pad for the pre-ban mags with the 140 mm mag gage. The blue pad is the latest version of the +2 pad for the 141.25 mag gage. Both of the +2 pad have been discontinued. The +2 pad on a new 140 tube can cause problems with the follower going below the mag ribs and jamming as well as being longer the allowed in limited.

  3. I can't tell if he took off the end if the dustcover or what but i can see and Slim cut along between the frame and slide.

I think what you are looking at is the rail on the slide portion which runs on the inside of the frame and looks like a cut but is the rail. This is visable like this because the dustcover does not extend to the end of the muzzle.

I seem to remember reading on this forum or on Hennings website that he had cut off part of the full dustcover from one of his guns but not sure if it was this one.

He didn't cut the dust cover. EAA doesn't import the short dust cover model, just the long dust cover model.

  4. It wasn't the early AM and it wasn't the next day saver. It was supposed to by by 10:30 and it showed up at 5:45. Fortunately the shop I was going to is open 24 hours. I made it in by 7:00 and had the lathe fixed and the job payed for by 8:00.

  5. I hate waiting for a next day air package that should have been here 5 hours ago. It is listed on the tracking site as out for delivery. I've got to drive 3 hours one way to install the part to get a lathe up and operating and I can't wait till tomorrow cause I already have somewhere else I have to be. Morons.

Sorry for the run on sentence.

  6. One day to get ordained as a reverend? Took me two weeks to become a Buddist monk......

Ah but the Monk has to become an expert in kung-fu, and that is a two week course.

  7. First, Front Man, the 08 Tacoma's are gas pigs. They're about the same as the Chevy/GMC's. Priced them when I was on R&R in May.

The word is Toyota is coming out with a diesel and it should be a winner given their track record.

Eric - If I was buying a diesel, as much as I'm a Chevy guy, I would go with the Ford. Just seem to have everything figured out. However, as you mentioned the $7k upgrade to diesel buys A LOT of gas. I'm patiently waiting for bio-diesel, but am trading in the Tahoe for a Colorado Extreme.

Gotta keep up with Nolan Smyth.

    Why wait?

  8. Hunter also wrote an Earl Swagger book where he goes to Cuba in the pre Castro era. The name escapes me, but I read it a few months ago and kept it.

I've enjoyed all of Hunters books except for perhaps the Nazi era book.

  9. I am in the process of buying a Super 1050 to be set up for 40sw. I have a XL650 with 5 tool heads full of dies, powder checks.

    1. Will the 650 tool head stands work with the Super 1050 tool heads. How do you guys store extra tool heads?

No, the tool head stands don't work. Shred had a design that used round stock turned down on a lathe to make a stand.

    2. Will my roller handle fit onto the 1050? I love the aluminum roller handle.

The 1050 has a straight arm on the roller handle, the 650 arm has a bend in it. I would call Dillon about a new one.

    3. I am assuming the dies all transfer over to the 1050 tool heads?

    Yes

    4. Is the powder die the same as a xl650 powder die? Are the powder measures the same. I see where I can get a quick change tool head with powder measure for only 25 dollars more than the tool head?

The powder check die has the same part number on the 650 page as the 1050 page in the Blue Press. The powder measures are the same. I would get tool head / powder measure combo only if you need more powder measures, of course I have 6 powder measures myself.

5.Do the Powder check systems still works with existing rods supplied?

Since it only has one part number, I would guess so.

    6. Are there any parts in the conversion kits that are worth holding onto for the 1050, or sell them and purchase new kits for 9mm, 38 super, 45acp and 40 SW.

    I don't think so.

I have 650 tool heads with dies, powder measures, powder check systems, what would be the most economical method to reproduce the same set ups for the 1050.

Buy tool heads. Every thing that is screwed into the tool head on a 650 will screw into a 1050. I would wait and buy the tool heads as you need them due to the cost. Or just jump in and buy all you want at once.

Any other advice would be helpfull.

  10. Have you called Dawson direct? They just put a new CNC machine on the floor to increase capacity.

yeah, they still don't have any ready to go. I called up shooters connection and all they had were ones for a bushing gun and said dawson was not worrying about the guide rods right now.

I asked Dave about the guide rods today. He said that was something he needed to get on. So, I expect they will get finished soon. I've seen some partially done, but not fitted together.

  11. Yeh, what's WITH you folks in Texas...?!?!?!? :surprise:

I thought it was supposed to be desert-like down there!!

Seems it's been raining non-stop for weeks.....:unsure::unsure:

Where are you putting all the water, anyway...?...

Several Days ago I heard on the news we were at 500% of our normal rain fall, and it has rained since then.
