  1. Ya, Oakley's are nice glasses but I can't see paying that kind of money for something that I'm either going to lose or drop and scratch. I'll stick with el cheapo's!

Go to Oakleys website and register as an LEO. You fill out the online information and attach a scan of you Police ID and they will approve you in about 30 minutes. They have a limited number of styles available but the price is about 60% less.

The oakley govt website is: https://usstandardissue.com/

  2. I've got an opportunity to pick up a never used rl1050 for around $900 w/o dies. The owner bought it, set it up and never used it. He wants to sell it and buy a 650. I've never reloaded so this would be my first press. Initially, I'd be loading 9mm. Eventually, I could see expansion into .45, .38, .223 and who knows what other rifle calibers.

My question is this...at that price, is it worth getting the 1050 and struggling through the learning process with 9mm. Then picking up a 550 or 650 later to load the less frequent calibers? Or am I better off just investing that money into a 650 setup from the start.

At this point, I'm shooting less than 1k rounds of 9mm a month. All my buddies that shoot also shoot 9mm, so I might be nice and let them use it as well.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

The RL IMO is fantastic. It is not as easy to change calibers as the other you mentioned. For a thousand rounds a month a little SDB would be perfect IF you are just loading one caliber.... If you don't buy the 1050 there are those on this Forum who would LOVE to have it. Me # 1 among them....

No, don't tell Merlin. He is hoarding all of the RL1050's.

  3. The lead in a used car battery has some other elements in it that prevent it from working well in Ballisticast or Magma Casters. I have a friend who is a commercial lead bullet maker. He has run into this before and it makes maintaining the temp in the lead pots difficult ant the pour spouts clog up. It is not a fun experience.

  4. Are your 1911 light rails specific to the Surefire lights? My M3 won't work on one?

Are they big enough that my gun won't fit its holsters anymore?

    THX

Just in case yo didn't get an answer I'll chime in. The light rail only works with the Surefire lights. The plastic body of the M3 doesn't allow the adapter to be attached. The Surefire lights have removable adapters so the light rail can attach. So in short, The pistol gets the rail and the light gets the adapter put on it.

Some hlster will work with the rail attached some won't. That question Dave is going to have to respond to.

  5. Hey, slight thread drift here but as the newbie Open shooter here how long will a Duacell "normally" last?

If you remember to turn it off, it will last a fairly long time. It depends on how much you shoot. I have gone a couple of months on one, when I remember to turn it off.

  6. Thank you for the Honor.

The folks that run the companies in our sport really made it all possible. I collected 1000.00 from the five clubs in and around San Antonio, but when I called various folks ( Dillon, Starline, Magnus Bullets, Zero, Shooters Connection, and of course Dawson Precision ) no body would take list price if they took money at all.

The most extreme example were Dawson and STI. They split the total cost of the gun between them.

Starline sent brass, a hat, a CD, and two shirts. They also sent a huge thank you card with every one at Starlines signature on it.

So, it wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful people we buy our stuff from, all I really did was make a bunch of phone calls.

  7. I've used the Sanyo CR1/3N batteries and they work well. I also like the Energizer 2L76 batteries. Of course none of them last when you forget to turn the C-more off and leave it on in the range bag till the next match!

  8. The part I don't like about the Hybrids or the Tesla is the 100,000 mile life span on the batteries. I've got 363,000 miles on my pick-up and the diesel is still going strong.

  9. after putting just under 4000 miles on the rental from heck, ( wasn't quite bad enough to be from that other place ) ( a Chevy HHR ),

Hey now, there's nuthin wrong with HHR's.

I put just under 4000 miles in the rental. It made my back and neck hurt. It also had large blind spots for me. I did not like it at all.

  10. I had a primer go off and set off a just loaded primer magazine. A primer in a 9mm case left the side wall while punching out the end and the anvil. It was load, but I was wearing eyes and ears. Was in a Super 1050 that was very new. I prefer my RL 1050 to the Super version.

  11. Big truck vs small car....@ 65...... Did it kill the other driver?

No one even injured. I hit the right rear corner of the car and pushed the bumper into the tire. Brakes were working well, but I needed retro rockets to stop fully.

  12. Had a driver pull out in front of me at 9:30pm on Feb 23. They got the ticket and a dead car. '97 Dodge Avenger vs 99 Ford F-350 crew cab long bed. At first glance not much wrong with my truck, just all the power steering fluid leaking out of the front. Oh yea and a cut break line, and two other oil coolers, and all the plastic parts are cracked ( head lights, turn lights, chrome grill, etc ) and the bumper is bent. But finally after putting just under 4000 miles on the rental from heck, ( wasn't quite bad enough to be from that other place ) ( a Chevy HHR ), I picked my truck up today, Friday, at 4:00. Life is good again. Also the other persons insurance company picked up the whole thing, after all it was their fault. You don't pull out in front of trucks going 65 mph ( the speed limit, a DPS car likes to park just past the accident site and run radar ) and expect them to stop on a dime.

  13. I wanted to share a video of what happened at our local club this weekend. We have a USPSA shooter that is also a Marine that was injured in the Iraq war - his name is James Gill - He comes to many matches in the area and shoots very well - you never hear him complain that with one leg one eye he is having a hard time - NO - he shoots outstanding and has a great attitude. One of Austin's shooters and club member here at the Bullet Hole - Huston LaClair decided that this young man deserved something more than our friendship since he gave up so much to protect our freedoms! Huston got together an impressive list of Company's to donate and discount products to help this shooter shoot open division - he really wanted to shoot open but was having a hard time getting the massive funds together at one time to get started. In the end - Huston was able to gather up a New Grandmaster from STI and Dave Dawson - Tuned and ready - Shooter Connection donated a top of the line range bag with mags and the CR Speed complete rig with holster - Dillion 550 loader and all the goodies needed to reload!! 2000 Brass from Starline and 4000 Bullets from Magnus bullets and Zero! There are so many other things given you will need to watch the video! - Remember - he had no idea this was going to happen! All of the clubs in the area donated to the event and I wanted to thank all of them and the great companies for doing something that can make us all proud to shoot this sport!!! THANKS!!!

Just to be correct, The mags and CR Speed rig did not come from Chuck. Those came from someone wanting to remain anonymous. Chuck did leap at the chance to send the bag though. Thanks Chuck!
