  1. I have had my 550b for about a year now, and have loaded several thousand 9mm.

    Other than keeping it free of debris and cleaning the hopper every so often, I haven't done any maintenance on it.

    Should anything be specially cleaned or lubed at this point? Maybe the main shaft, or the primer magazine?

    Any springs replaced?

    Do dies need to be taken apart and cleaned if they are working well?

  2. Hard to really score the targets with idpa rules with out seeing the hits. For example low A zone hits would be a -1 on an idpa target not -0.

    True, but this wasn't a scientific experiment - just a fun exercise. C hits close to the side of the A zone would be a -0 in an IDPA target too.

  3. Got a chance to test out my Cajun SP-01 today. I was mainly checking for sights being zeroed and functionality with my ammo.

    It groups pretty well at 75 feet, but it looks like they installed the wrong front sight. They installed a Dawson .170T by .095W - which hits about 4.5" high at 75 feet.

    My SP-01 Shadow has a .195T by .095W and hits POA/POI at 75 feet.

    Another thing I noticed was the CGW SP-01 averaged 27fps faster than my Shadow with the same ammo.

  4. I have had my CZC SP-01 Shadow Custom for about 6 months now, and have been very happy with it. They only thing I have changed on mine is an 11.5# hammer spring, and reduced power trigger return spring with floating trigger pin.

    Since I live in communist Kalifornia, I can't buy another Shadow - but the SP-01 is still on the "safe" gun list. :rolleyes:

    Anyway, several people have said that the SP-01 can be polished & tuned to be just as good as an SP-01 Shadow.

    I decided to have Cajun Gun Works customize a SP-01 with their Pro Package. It is supposed to be very similar to a "Custom" from CZC, but I added a few things to make it Production legal and as close to my Shadow as possible:

    Comp sights, short reset / disconnector, extended firing pin, reduced power firing pin spring, 11# recoil spring, 11.5# hammer spring, CZC hammer, stainless guide rod, extended mag release, 85c trigger, reduced power trigger return spring, polishing / tuning etc.

    When I finally received it - I disassembled, cleaned it and put the lube I like to use on. I tested the triggers several times on both with a Wheeler gauge. Here are the results:

    CZC:

    DA = 5.5

    SA = 2.3

    CGW:

    DA = 6.5

    SA = 2.5

    It might be because my CZC is broken in, but the DA feels smoother than the CGW. The reset on the CGW is still short, but about twice the length of the CZC (no firing pin block).

    The new model CGW sights are really nice. Dawson makes them for CGW, and I think I like them better than the CZC Comp sights. They are the same notch width, but the CGW's have more depth. Side-by-side I can find my front sight quicker. They also have two set-screws instead of one:

    CZC (on right) does more polishing of the rails:

    Another thing I like that CGW (on right) does is bore out the firing pin hole a little:

    More to come after I have a chance to shoot it and sight it in. :cheers:

  5. My math was off on the Hit Factor totals. I added all the HFs together and divided by 5, but that doesn't come out right. I will fix it and add the minor scoring for Shooter 3.

    Edit: Should be correct now.

  6. In the USPSA scoring, the Major shooting has a higher hit factor because he got more points and finished first. Since there is no scoring difference in IDPA he finished third. If you scored him minor, he would have finished in the same place as he did in IDPA

    True. But this wasn't a USPSA major vs. minor scoring comparison. This was just a USPSA scoring vs. IDPA scoring comparison.

  7. Just for fun, I took 3 shooter's scores from a USPSA match and applied IDPA scoring to it.

    Interesting that the 1st place shooter in USPSA is 3rd with IDPA scoring.

    The only thing I couldn't account for was possible FTNs:

  8. So what happens when you cannot physically fit a fully loaded 10 round mag in the gun with 1 in the pipe?

    In CA, many loaded factory 10 round glock mags will not seat in the magwell.

    They will seat - just a tight fit. It's an issue with the Glock 9mm 10-round magazine follower (#2183). Once the magazine is used a while, it gets better.

    But the best solution is to buy some followers that work (#1812-3). They are like $3 each and work great.

  9. Bingo. I'll take two people with boxes of posters, who know how to use them, over ten people with tape, who are standing around waiting for the RO.....

    I guess we do it a little different at our Club matches. The Scorekeeper starts to score the targets he can safely see while the shooter is still shooting. Other shooters start taping after the Scorekeeper scores them. If there is a mike, no-shoot or questionable call - Shooters don't tape that one so the Shooter and RO can see it. We get done with the Stage a lot faster this way.

  10. Not really in favor of sticking tape on clothing first, as it cuts down on its ability to adhere to targets.....

    I guess it depends on what the clothing is made out of. I wear 5.11 shorts and can re-stick tape on it 5 times with no issues with adhesion to targets. It's usually gone before 5 times though.

  11. You might need to do 3 turns on a complicated stage, but it seems way more efficient.

    I just don't see how that is efficient. Normally we have about 15 shooters on a Squad. If there are 16 targets, and 10 people are taping at the same time - that goes much faster than 2 people taping 16 targets (after they are scored).

  12. What is good to have in a tool & parts kit that you take to matches?

    I would like to be able to fix the most common CZ problems in the field.

    For tools, I'm thinking: Punches should be included - what sizes? Screwdrivers, squib rod. What else?

    For parts, I'm thinking: Trigger return spring, fiber optic rods, slide stop. What else?

  13. Here is some evidence to my theory of divisions (based on equipment) going from most difficult to least: Rev, Pro, SS, Lim10, Lim, Open.

    My Classifier yesterday - I had a 5.22 Hit Factor.

    Here is what that equates to for each Division:

    Rev: 66.7%

    Pro: 62.9%

    SS: 54.2%

    Lim10: 51.6%

    Lim: 51.6%

    Open: 47.9%

  14. I agree with those who say you are too concerned with splits on target and not enough with hitting the target. If you are pushing .12 with a Production gun and not reliably hitting you are shooting to fast. Alow that down to .16 or .18 and your hits will go up and overall time lost is not even worth mentioning. If you want to save time on a stage start looking at your transitions, draws, reloads, and movement. The last place you should be looking at for speed is splits.

    I have been working on transitions, draws, reloads, and movement too. I'm not consciously trying for fast splits - it just happens. I need to concentrate on slowing down the shots on anything but close, open targets.

    This past weekend at a Match, I thought I could double-tap a close target that was all hardcover except for the A-Zone. I shot it on the move and had to make up a shot:
