Really don’t know.  I think over at Taran’s website he gives the dimensions of his pads.  I don’t know anything about the gen5 pistols, or their mags.  All my glocks are  gen 3’s.  I think I read somewhere that gen 5 mags are not compatible with any other gens, not-sure if Taran’s pads fit gen 5 guns.  I think they only changed the lips because of the ambi mag catch.

Taran's base pads fit the gen 5's.  At least the +0 for the G19 do.

Sights are personal.  I've run numerous types...Fiber optics, 3-dot white dot sights, square notch rears, U-notch rears, Trijicon night sights, etc.  I'm partial to night sights, as that is what is on my duty issued weapon and I'm used to them, and I like a traditional square notch rear.  I tried the U-notch...they are good for quick target acquistion, as they have a bit more room to see the target around the front sight....BUT, I found myself burying the front sight lower into the U-notch and pushing my shots down.

As for brand....I  settled on Ameriglo.  Their outlines around the tritium vials are better constructed by Trijicon (they use white paint and Ameriglo uses PVC type material that lasts longer and doesn't flake off), the sight bodies are steel and hold up, and they are a tad less expensive than Trijicon and use Trijicon tritium.

As for style....I settled on the "straight eight" type of sights....dot-over-dot....single dot on front sight, and single dot in the middle of the rear sight

As for model.....the Ameriglo Pro iDot works best for me.  The front ring around the tritium vial is green in color and glows when hit with light (photo-phosphorescent) and the dot-over-dot is very quick upon sight acquisition and it's decent for precise shot placement.

For me....Ameriglo Pro i-Dot's are what I now run on my CCW G19 and I run "straight eight" style sights on my Dan Wesson CCO.

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention Ameriglo sights.  I have used the Hackathorn version (on a G19) which are great to about 15 yds at speed for A-zone hits, but really slow for upper panels.  Have you found the I-Dots to be faster for tight shots?

Nope, no luck using grip tape. I have sweaty palms and any type of grip tape would shift on my grips sooner or later and would leave a messy chunk of glue.

I had my grips done by alma cole he did a silicone carbide with aggressive texture and it’s been awesome and holding up really well. This is the best solution for me. Try it out you won’t regret it. Cheers!

I also have had my grips done by Alma Cole with the silicon carbide aggressive texturing.  Great craftsmanship and durability, highly recommended!

I sometimes shoot with a fellow that has shot SMG Colts for more than 30 years.  When I had trouble loading a mag against a closed bolt, he told me to load to an odd amount of rounds.  An even amount puts a round in just the wrong position for the mag catch to seat easily.  That made a noticeable difference for me.

    Great tip, thanks!

  5. My Rock River LAR-9 is extremely reliable and I use only Metalform mags.  Literally zero failures in about 2,500 rds.  The only downside to the Colt SMG pattern is reloading, which should be rare if you have extensions (I use TF +10's on 32 rd mags).  In the case of classifiers with mandatory reloads the mags can be downloaded enough to relieve that tension.

  6. I removed mine with 5/64".  Fit perfectly.  The screw is installed with loctite blue so it takes a little encouragement to get it started.  Went to a Sig forum to find the size wrench to use as it's not in the factory info.

I've never shot a DA/SA, but it seems to me that if you're gonna go DA/SA, then go with a Tanfo or CZ and have it milled or choose a dovetail mount.  I have never seen anybody choose a 226 for CO.  Frankly, I've never seen it for ANY division.

At least the 320 X-Five is the heaviest striker gun I know of, especially if you go with a tungsten guide rod.

DA/SA just takes some getting used to.  I had a Tanfo for production so that doesn't concern me.  You completely understand why I'm looking into the P226 and X-Five, weight.  I've read all the threads about what it takes to get a Tanfo in just barely under, as that was what I was looking into before learning about the X-Five.  I liked the out-of-the box readiness.  Then I saw the P226 RX while checking in with a shop where I'm on an X-Five waiting list, thus the question of the forum.  Your point is good about not seeing the P226's out there, and I've observed the same.  Wondering why.

If you're looking to eventually step up to a 320 X-Five, why not go with a 320RX?  I think the new mags would be compatible, and you'd be ramping up with a similar trigger system.

I'd either wait for the x-five or go with the p226.  Not looking to run one then another unless I find a rich uncle...?   I'm sure the 320rx is great, heck, Max won nats with that platform.

CO nats and Area 1 is in a couple weeks now.

Getting busy for the finals but that is not gonna stop my training.

I feel consistent than ever now.

Now I know what I need to do to perform well. And it's going to get even better.

Great match, congrats on the win!!   Which optic did you choose for your Walther?

  10. So my front sight (Dawson) loosened over time on my Stock 2.  I removed it to clean up the sight slot and sight and found that there's a hole through the slide at the set screw detent.  I cleaned everything up and installed the sight (no fiber yet), and the very end of the tiny set screw protrudes ever so slightly through the slide.  Tough to tell how much quantitatively but enough that I can feel it.  Advice please!!

  11. Agreed, this is a first class description, thanks!  I've read some other threads on the Titan/Bolo install and have seen others needing to use the extended fpb.  Were you successful using the standard fpb or did you use the extended version?  Figuring you used the standard based on your parts list but wanted to make sure, thx!

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know.

So then what do you think about spending an additional $200 or so in parts to improve a trigger (been wrestling with this for my current Stock 2).  Practice with the hardware as is until effective with the plate drill above, or make the investment and then go after the drill?  The investment would shorten reset, lower DA pull and travel, and marginally improve SA pull.  Currently has only reduced hammer spring, aftermarket guide rod, and polishing.  All else is factory original.

  13. Looking forward to seeing how that goes.  Based on the videos you've posted so far, the transition was very smooth.  I'm so impressed with how much you've acheived in such a short period of time.  It hasn't been obstacle-free, either!!
