  1. I had a thumb rest on my open gun and found it was great for consistent grip and for table starts.  As someone else said in an earlier post, if you like to switch divisions routinely to ones where they’re not allowed, it could mess with your grip on the other platforms, so you may want to take that into account.

  2. It’s a tough one right now to be sure.  I was on a site recently, the bullets showed in stock, had the bullets in the “cart”, and by the time I got my payment info input, the bullets were out of stock.  It’s a real patience-tester!

I process 9mm on a 1050 set up for 40sw: same M case feed shuttle, small case feed plate, W shell plate, and #2 locator buttons except for the first button.  I don't swage while processing and I haven't tried loading 9mm in this setup, but it might save you some caliber conversion time if you're adventurous.

Interesting time saver.  I’m still pretty new to the 1050 so maybe not so adventurous yet.

This is a helpful yet somewhat heartbreaking thread.  I just started experiencing the similar issues as you all have described. Mine is an "AE" model.  When I turn the dot on, it stays illuminated for four minutes and 50 seconds and then blinks 10 times, and shuts off. It will not  re-illuminate upon motion. It does this even if the slide is in motion, like it did in practice yesterday.   Can I expect the dot to consistently stay  illuminated for about five minutes? Or have you experienced the dot shutting off at random times?

I should have updated on this topic.  The timing of this problem was right before hicap nationals last year, not good.  I have to say that when I explained the issue and the fact that I was leaving shortly for nationals, Leupold rushed me a new optic in time to get it mounted (and let the loctite cure), and get zero’d right before heading down to Utah to work the Open/PCC match and then compete in Carry Optics.  Leupold’s Customer service was off the charts fantastic.

Thanks for taking the time to make the comments.
I agree 100% with the fact I am confirming on my shots before moving.  When I watch the video is drives me mad as in real time I feel like I'm flying through.

I have the DryFireMag for my Glock and I feel like that has substantially improved my results.  I'm also basically crouch walking around my home when practicing to get used to shooting on the move.  This was literally my first time practicing shooting on the move with live ammo.

I'm fairly happy with my times in each stage, if I can catch my accuracy up to my speed then I would be ready to start pushing the speed again.

You’re way ahead of where most people are with this few matches.  An interesting thing you may experience down the road, is that on your best stages, you’ll feel like it was slow motion, at least not rushed, because your economy of movement will improve with less stops and starts.  It will flow.  Looking forward to seeing your progress!

  6. You’re doing quite well for your 4th match!

You’re good on accuracy, lots of A’s.

    Draw looks good, too.

A couple items for your consideration:

Be ready to move the moment you break the last shot in each position.

Shoot on the move to the limits of your capability.  You did this when approaching the target on a few of the stages.  Given your accuracy, you’re ready to do more.  On stage 3, from the port, you can can engage all 3 targets while moving, you can roll right through that position on your way to the last position.

Plan your reloads so they happen while you’re on the move and finished before you reach your next position.

Dry fire, dry fire, dry fire, that’s where the gains happen!  I agree with the comment above about Seeklander, and I personally have used Ben Stoeger’s books.

Again, great job, and kudos for being open to constructive comments!

What type of ramp cut do you have ?  Wilson/Nowlin or Clark/Para .   Hooper Gun Works sells complete Rock Island slides with sights for less than $200 and TR Enabling sells barrels for around $120 in either ramp cut. The R/I slides are forged and as good as any. You would need a firing pin and a firing pin stop, as well as a extractor for the slide. Not a lot spent for a new topend. TR Enabling barrels are the barrels that are used in the CZ 1911's. Great shooting barrels. TR Enabling also sells complete topends, not sure of the ramp configurations.  Don't know if that would put you into to much money spent, but it is another option.

As shred mentioned, I don't know of any barrel conversions similar to the Glock conversions for a 1911 due to the difference in the breech face.

I think the Sig is a Wilson/Nowlin.  Is the completed slide from Rock Island a bull barrel deign? If so, I wouldn’t want to go that path because I’m using this 1911 for USPSA single stack division.  I should have mentioned this in my OP.

if you ask springer they will tell you “snug”.  I use 20 inch pounds on the plates with the steel inserts, and 15 on the plates that are directly tapped into the aluminum. I’ve had no issues.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated!!

  9. Hi all, I just had a DPP failure on my X5, which is mounted to a Springer Precision plate.  When I do the reinstall, what's the right torque?  Since the plate is aluminum, using Leupold's directions will lead to stripped threads.  Looked all over and not finding a value.  Thanks!

My Rock River LAR-9 is extremely reliable and I use only Metalform mags.  Literally zero failures in about 2,500 rds.  The only downside to the Colt SMG pattern is reloading, which should be rare if you have extensions (I use TF +10's on 32 rd mags).  In the case of classifiers with mandatory reloads the mags can be downloaded enough to relieve that tension.

Taylor Freelance now makes a 63 rd mag on the Colt pattern.  I saw one in use at a local match.  Flawless on all stages.

  12. I put a Dawson Ice magwell on my Sig 1911 (Match Elite) in 40 S&W and have some 10-rd Tripp Cobra mags that fit great and are USPSA legal. The two factory 8-rd mags are now too short to realistically be used in competition.  Is there a basepad/extension I can get to make thse mags useful, either as 8-rounders or as 10-rounders?

I have the larger Midway bag and the side pouch holds 8 mags and the removable middle has another 6 spots for mags. I just take out the middle for matches. It holds two guns, ammo, and extra mags.
