Hey, I'm Ken I'm from the suburbs of Detroit and I just wanted to finally check in here. Looking to start competitive shooting this year with a couple of local clubs, join whichever one will have me, have fun and see where it goes. I've been a lurker here on the site since around when I bought my first AR 5 years ago. It's taken me a while to make the decision to come play in USPSA and 3gun matches, but I think I'm hooked now.
I attended USPSA101/Practical shooting class last weekend at the Livingston Gun club, but sadly couldn't attend their season opener the next day. Getting to shoot a COF after the classroom stuff was a great experience though and really reinforced my desire to be involved in this sport. Also, the club officers and ROs teaching the class were great guys...experienced, helpful, friendly and willing to answer everyones questions, sharing that experience.
I'm planning to go to LGC's 3-gun match this weekend. Thanks to the great information here I probably have a pretty decent basic kit for a beginner and hope that will help me relax, be safe, and have more fun than frustration. "Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast," is a phrase I learned from the performance driving world. I heard it again when taking the class last weekend. I've made that my plan for my first few events until I learn more, get more practice, and hopefully get some advice from the experienced folks. I know this is a race, but you you'll never win if you don't finish, right?
