  1. B&p slugs are awesome (if they run in your gun) Soft and accurate. Dillon now sells them so they are easier to find.
  2. I did a bit of research and asking around on this subject. I recently went from a benelli to a firebird akdal (both open guns). Each one has its nuances and both are temperamental. The hard part of the benelli is getting good at loading with the sticks and more recoil. In my opinion The akdal shoots better but is much more temperamental. I didn't intend on buying the akdal when I did but I got a good deal on it. I was waiting for the same answer you are "this is the definitive shotgun to get for open class." But I don't think that is going to come anytime soon. We are trying to do things with shotguns that were never meant to be done. So until someone designs a shotgun specific for this game we are stuck tinkering with existing platforms. That is just my take on open shotguns. And so far there is no correct answer
  3. Sorry for the late response but I just got back from the area 1 match. I shot my 14.5" after Richard and I did our test. And I'm convinced it can do all the things the 18" can do within 600 yds. And I'm saying 600 just because I haven't shot it past that. As far as splits go. I don't shoot a rifle that fast. (Yet) I'm gonna try to put it through the real test in a couple of weeks. Ironman here I come!
  4. I am trying to get more serious with three gun (or multi gun if mark is out there) so I have started reloading .223. With long range I'm using 68gr hornadys with 24 gr of ramshot tac and with short range whatever cheap 55gr I can find. My question is this does the trajectory of the bullet change substantially if I used the same 24gr of tac behind both the 68gr and the 55gr. Or would I be better to develop a specific load to each. I'm trying to get out of this reloading thing as easy as possible. Hence two bullets one powder charge.
  5. Ok so here it goes. Couple of things I forgot to mention. All of my test guns are P.O.F. Rifles which are piston guns. My 18" gun has a mid length gas system My 16" gun has a carbine length system And the 14.5" I'm testing has a mid length gas system And I had a buddy out there with a jp 18" setup We shot all of them side by side at short range. The 18" barrel jp shot the softest but only marginally better than the 14.5" Pof The 14.5" surprised everyone that shot it including myself. It was really flat shooting. but the softness and flatness of a gun is kind of hard to measure. But splits and transitions were a little faster with the 14.5 but not really a big difference in the grand scheme of things. We're talking .01's We chronoed them and as expected I lost velocity with the 14.5" but not as much as I thought. There was only about a 100 fps difference between the 18" and the 14.5" with the 16" almost exactly in the middle. I'm going to shoot it some more at the local 3gun match this weekend. If anyone wants to give it a try and tell me what they think I will be at rio salado on Saturday for the 3 gun match Thanks for the input, Naim "nick" Saiti
  6. Thanks for all the input guys but I think I need to find out for myself. I'm going out tomorrow and I'm bringing a 18",16",and a 14.5" I'll post my findings after I run each one through a stage or two
  7. ok so one shot one hit is what we are trying for?! Ive been doing it all wrong this entire time
  8. Im fairly new to 3 gun. The consensus on rifle length seems to be 18" barrels but, I was doing the math and most of the shooting with rifles have been inside 100yds. With that said wouldn't a lighter shorter barrel be more beneficial for the close stuff. How much do you really lose with a 16" or even a 14.5" barrel? just trying to figure things out and see what people have to say.
