  1. Amazing what can be done with the proper techniques. Notice how he doesn’t move anything except his arms. Good example from a great shooter.
  2. I played around this last year with setting up the “softest flattest” rifle I could. The conclusion was an sjc comp, vltor a5 buffet system(with 00 buffer), adjustable gas block, and an aluminum carrier. My rifle has a rifle length gas system and an 18” barrel. I tried 5 different comps ,3 different carriers, 4 different buffers. After mix matching and shooting the above proved to be the best setup for softness and flatness the only downside is it seems to be a little on the heavy side.
  3. Is anyone running an aluminum carrier? What kind of issues are you having if any?
  4. I’m fairly new to the USPSA revolver game and was wondering what everyone is using for a holster. I have a hogue holster currently but it doesn’t work for me.
  5. Back when I first started shooting there was a guy at open nationals without an optic on his gun. he had cut a “notch” down the middle of the slide. He didn’t win but he did better than everyone expected. Its amazing what can be done by just simply trying.
  6. I have used frontier 121gr 9mm/.356 bullets for almost 6 years. I've shot a lot of them in that time. I have always had good luck with their 121gr bullets they are every bit as accurate for me as mg or zeroes.
  7. I've gotten to try a few scopes in the past couple of years. It took me a long time being on a small budget. I have found that the reticle makes a big difference. My preference is to a bdc style reticle or at least something that gives you more info than just crosshairs. Maybe something else to think about before making your purchase. With that said I have a viper pst 1-4. It's a great scope for the money. And you can't beat the warranty.
  8. I've been shooting 3gun "seriously" for the past couple of years. I honestly had no idea there was a pf for any of the guns. I always just assumed you needed enough to knock down the steel targets. If it's an issue it needs to be addressed better at the matches. Now with that said I have one load for my 69gr and use the same powder charge for my 55gr. It makes things easier for loading 223 and by my calculations I'm at about 151pf with the 55gr.
  9. I have noticed many shooters get "lost" in the stage when the buzzer goes off. I wonder if this is lack of stage planning or is the sense of urgency greater than the focus on the task at hand. What is the consensus, Lack of planning or loosing focus?
  10. In my experience having the stages setup the day before is the way to gain a lot of time. It's worth paying a little more and have setup and tear down taken care of.
  11. My advice. Sell the components and buy factory ammo. Reloading .223 stinks!
  12. I tried running really light loads for 3 gun (125-135pf) but my gun seems to run the best with a little higher pf. It's currently at about 145-150pf. The gun seems to run better I guess there is more gas to run the comp. my advice is not to count out a little higher pf. softest is not always the best.
  13. For shooting minor pf I liked the lighter 115gr but shooting major I preferred the heavier stuff. Since I shoot a lot of both I've been using 121gr which is kind of in the middle.
  14. From what I can tell the thumb rests main purpose is to help control recoil. In three gun there is a lower power factor and that's why many of the top guys don't run one. Personally I see it as just another thing to fall/break off and I don't run one while shooting major either.
  15. I have an awesome setup for this purpose as I was in the same boat as you. I couldn't decide. So I had Matt Mclearn build me a 2011 with an infinity slide. The trick is infinity slides come with interchangeable breach faces. I had him fit 2 barrels 9mm and .40 each with respective breach faces. I have to say just for pure shooting the 9mm is more fun. But for uspsa purposes .40 is more practical as you dont loose the points shooting minor.
  16. I am limited on the number of matches I can shoot every year. This match is always on my list. Pete is an evil genius when it come to setting up stages. This year I traveled with a couple of first timers and they were blown away by this match. (It Also helps that I had a pretty good finish this year.) Keep up the great work guys see you next year.
  17. With the arrival of my daughter I have to be more conscious of guns around the house. I was looking at the hornady rapid safe but I figure I'd ask you guys first. What small safe are you using for the bedroom?
  18. Sub 1 sec for sure. It's not easy to get sub 1 sec reloads consistently it takes a lot of dry fire. I never like to brag but I have the fastest reload of anyone I know and it has never been a deciding factor on winning a match. In my opinion it's better to shoot great and have a good reload than to have a great reload and "push" the shooting
  19. If I push I can get my first shot in the .80's. Try not to put expectations on what you can achieve. I have done some things I never thought I could do simply by trying.
  20. My open guns are about 1 1/4 lb. I care more about how it breaks rather than the weight of the break. I like more of a rolling break versus a crisp break. In my opinion it helps with slapping the trigger. I set up my steel guns a little lighter just because I can. If you are not shooting hot ammo you can get away with a lighter trigger.
  21. The year I made gm I was shooting 1000 rnds a week and dry firing everyday. I do believe I wasted a lot of that ammo as I didn't have any formal training. In the beginning My training sessions were just throwing rounds down range without a definite direction/skill. It wasn't till I focused on specific skills in my training that I made big gains. It took a while to figure out that it wasn't the amount of rounds I shot but the quality of the practice I did. Nowadays I don't practice much but many of the skills/abilities have remained just not quite as sharp as they used to be. With that said my match results have not suffered that much.
  22. I initially ran my uspsa setup. Ghost holster and Matt Mclearn built open gun ( sti frame with c-more serendipity). I did pretty good with that holster I only dropped my gun twice! Then I went to a safariland 014. That was good except for the locking and unlocking of the holster in the middle of a stage was slow. Then I found the com (center of mass) holster. In my opinion this is the best setup for an open pistol in 3-gun.
  23. El prez is definitely on the top of the list for basic entry level drills. I used to shoot a lot of variations of this drill. I used to spread the targets for bigger transitions and put the targets further back for harder shots.
