Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. The squad list will not be posted mainly due to the fact that I just would not have time to answer the 4,000 phone calls or emails from folks asking to change squads and still pretend to work long enough to get paid and not feel bad about it. . I suppose we could have gone via the self squadding route but... C'est la vie. The 'bigger names' is a relative term I guess, but I will say that Dave Sevigny and Julie Goloski, along with Max and the army team are all shooting on Friday. The height of the tunnel will pretty much be termined once we set up the stage but don't worry, we may just add a hand rail for support as a last resort Carlos
  2. A picture is sometimes worth a thousand words. Ronnie, I think 42" is way to generous.... Just wait and see
  3. Hi All, Just entered competitor number 217. Saturday sessions are both full with folks on waiting list for each session. Just a few slots left for Friday for those of you that are procrastinators. See you all next week. Carlos
  4. Steven, First of all, thank you for volunteering to promote our game. It is a tiring job with long hours and lousy pay but every now and again, some comes up and says 'Thank You for puttin on a match and allowing my son/daughter to learn to play this game' and that kind of makes the effort seem worth while. That being said, I agree with wide45 in that you will need to drum up some additional help or you will end up getting burned out and quitting. None of us want that. We are pretty lucky at Cherokee Gun Club in that we normally have a pretty good crowd show up to help with set up and take down on our monthly matches. One of the things I did early on, and still do, is offer and incentive of $5 off the next match fee for any one who shows up for set and then sticks around to help put the match away. It is not much but every little bit helps. Couple of things on the props: We use the 4x8 sheets of insulation panels you can get a Home Depot for walls. They are lightweight, reusable and well worth the cost ($7-$9). Our brackets are made out of the 2x4 studs (not the regular 8 footers). It takes 2 studs for every bracket. We try to make use of every bit of wood so one stud we cut down to 6 feet, the left over section serves as a target stand base. Cut the other stud in haf. Use on section for the base of the L-bracket and the other to brace it. We have an ongoing picture show at our website that may give you some ideas as to how we use the props. Hope this helps, Carlos
  5. I was going to keep you all guessing .... but, if I get a chance to speak with our webmaster, I will put them up this weekend. Carlos
  6. Hello All; Sorry for the lapse in postings. I have been travelling a little lately and been a little busy. Just now had time to catch up. Breaking News...... I have registered shooter number 206 Saturday is completely full for both sessions and I have a waiting list already. There are still a few slots available if you wish to shoot Friday with the ROs' On behalf of Roger and Myself, we wish to thank all of you for your support. We are hoping to put together another great fun for you again in a couple of weeks. I have sent out a confirmation email for every application I have received. If you have not received yours, send me an email. Chances are there was no email on the app or you mispelled it on the app as it could not possibly have been me . See you all in a couple of weeks. Carlos
  7. Alright guys, you need to get you priorities straight. Jake - You can't really afford to loose any more body fat so skip the Ironman and come shoot. Barry - Area 1 is the following week and since you are going to fly all that way, you should just as well shoot two matches. Think of it as 'bullet cost averaging' John - I have not seen any posting on either the USPSA or the Area 4 web pages for the match so we win by default. See you at the match. Ronnie - I hope to be out of A class by then but you keep praying. Jon - Thanks for the kind words but Roger and I would not be able to put on this match without a whole lot of help from the great folks in the Georgia section. That said, we look forward to putting on another great show this year. See how easy that was...
  8. +1. I also find this the best solution. I suppose it is all a matter of what you get used to, with enough practice (oh wait, what is that ). most any method will work.
  9. I am by no means an expert but..... You should be able to adjust the resolution of the pictures on the camera. My guess is that your camera is capable of, at least 3.2 megapixels. I normally get that size file (1.5Meg) using high resolution (2048x1536) which is probably the default setting. For internet pitures you really do not need much more than 640x480. This should reduce the size of the files down to about 80K or so. Hope this helps. Carlos
  10. Back by popular demand.....(we'd like to think so anyway ) Cherokee Gun Club - same venue as last year. June 9th - 10th We will report back when we have more information. Hope to see all of you back. Carlos
  11. Buzz, The shooter is correct, there are no rules against a competitor having a loaded magazine in hand when he/she walks up to the line, or anywhere else on the range for that matter except the at a safe area or, based on the new rulebook, while doing a stage walkthru. Carlos
  12. Congratulations Ben! Just in case you want to come down and play with us in North Georgia when the weather starts to get a little nippy in Wisconsin, we have a couple of GM's shooting with us on a regular basis (Dave Sevigny and Bill Munier) that normally keep Production division competitive. The door is always open. Carlos Cherokee Gun Club
  13. I opt to give the shooters an option at our club. You can take the plaque or I will give you 'range bucks' equal to the cost of the plaque to use at the next match towards the entry fee. Our experience has been very positive. We are obviously not talking about a lot of money but it helps promote the shooting sport. For some folks, it helps with reducing expenses, for others it is all about braggin rights, but for most of the shooters that make up the vast majority of our ranks C, D & U class, is good to get to take home something they can display and brag about. (No, it is not a Nationals trophy, and most of our folks do not even travel out of the area much but I feei it promotes competition and interest in our sport which is all we can ask for). Carlos PS. Ronnie, if the friend to whom you were referring is Dan, he received his classification card as of the last run earlier this week. Two of the scores were the GA match so we look to see you guys back next month.
  14. Great idea BritinUSA.... My mom had a bout with breast cancer some 15 years ago. Thank God she is still with us and doing just fine. Count me in as a virtual shooter. Carlos
