Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I'm stocking up on my supplies to reload 9mm. I've always reloaded jacketed bullets but the cost of cast bullets is a little more appealing. Are there any drawbacks of reloading/shooting cast instead of jacketed? Is there more of a chance of damaging my barrel in any way? I've heard the accuracy isn't as great but if I'm just shooting targets, I don't mind. I'll be shooting them out of a Sig P229 mainly. Thanks!
  2. Thanks for all the feedback. I actually found 4000+ on gun broker for $135
  3. I'm looking for an affordable site to buy bulk 9mm brass. Unfortunately, all the ranges near me sell all of the brass they collect. I'm pretty sure I can get better deals then what they have to offer. Thanks
  4. Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up getting the 229R in 9mm. I couldn't be happier. It's already got a couple hundred rounds through it.
  5. I do not know anything about shooting sports but my son (15) would like to start participating in them. He'd like to compete with a Sig 229 but he would also be open to rifle shooting with an AR 15. Both of these guns are stock. What types of events should I keep my eye open for?
  6. It'll be used as a range and home defense gun.
  7. I am going to buy a sig p226 or p229 srt pistol in 9mm. The problem is, there isn't a Sig dealer anywhere near where I live! I really like how the 229 is shorter but the 226 looks a little more ergonomic. What should I do? My hands are medium size. Not very meaty either. What pistol do you think would fit my hand better? I know how the triggers are so dry firing one a few times in a shop doesn't really matter to me. I like the triggers. So do I try to find a dealer over an hour away or do I buy one or the other off of the Osage County Guns website? The one's I've found on that site seem to be a pretty good deal. The whole "buying before you handle it" is scaring me though... Just need some advice if you have some to offer. Thanks
  8. Is it worth spending the little bit extra for the SRT trigger?
  9. Thanks for the input. I'd like to get into some of the competitions but there are rarely any around here! (Traverse City, MI)
  10. for mag fed rounds you need to set your OAL to your shortest front 2 back mag and allow maybe .010 wiggle room. not sure I follow what the "drop test" is ? Sorry Powder Finger, the "drop test" i would drop them in the barrel and see if it will drop in with no help from myself as it falls into the barrel. I beleave i got it with as much crimp as i can give it(taper) im not trying to give it much.My dummy rounds cycles fine by hand when i pull the bolt back, im just not sure if it will be wise to try my loads with a 2.230 C.O.A.L my hornady manual calls for a COAL 2.250. thanks for your reply andim still stuck in limbo with this one You shouldn't have a problem with your COAL at 2.230. I have reloaded close to 2000 rounds since i started this post. (I now use the 550 with dillon dies, AA2230 powder, Winchester primers, and Horndady 55gr FMJ's) In the beginning I had been reloading mine to 2.250 and they shot great. I now prefer loading mine to 2.240. You'll get good results with both though. Will your shell chamber fine if it's empty? Your crimping problem could be a sizing problem. Is it a full length sizing die or a neck sizing die? You could have bulged cases. I've seen a few other forums where they were having close to the same problem.
  11. So I've been wanting a new pistol. I've narrowed it down to the P226, P229, and USP 9mm's. I like the Sig's because of the non polymer frames, the trigger, and the outstanding quality but the H&K has a few good things going for it too. (mainly weight and quality). I won't be shooting them in competition as of right now. Possibly later. But for right now, just for fun and for a nice reliable home defense pistol. So if you could choose one of these what would it be? And which one of the p226's or p229's? Right now I am really leaning towards the P226 stainless.
  12. All I've been loading so far is Hornady BT FMJ with cannelure. I'll try measuring them tomorrow..
  13. I've been having a problem with my 223 seating depths. I've been running dillon dies on the dillon 550. So far I've reloaded about 600 rounds of the 223. I can't seem to get a great seating depth average though. I set it up so that I would have a 2.245 OAL. My first couple hundred were dead nuts on 2.245. But my last 200 rounds have ranged anywhere from 2.2-2.265 OAL. I've taken the die out and readjusted it but it still just doesn't seem right. My brass and bullets are definitely not dirty so that wouldn't effect any kind of build up in the die that I know of. I'm lost on what to try now. Any help on the issue would be great. Thanks
  14. I am looking to start reloading 10mm. So far I've only reloaded 223 on a Dillon 550. Any start up information on it would be great. Mainly choosing the best powder, brass, and bullets. It would mainly be target rounds. Also, what are the best dies? I've found a set of 10mm/40 dies on craigslist with a caliber conversion. What do I offer the guy for it?
