  1. The Yost gun was only a stock photo. I like the idea of betting the guns!
  2. Yes, Kimbertarget PM'd me earlier today also. He did not say anything about wanting to call me or set up the shooting challenge, though. I told him he could accept the challenge or pass on it, and that either way was fine with me.
  3. A friend of mine did that job for awhile. It's degrading, awful work, and it tends to damage friendships and family relationships as you beg literally every soul you know to give you their money to "manage." From what I have seen, EDJ will hire almost anybody, and that is part of the problem--they're on every street corner like Starbucks. No offense, but what about your military experience would qualify you to be a financial planner? There's no question that you bring skills and experience to the table as you look for your next career, but it's hard to imagine it's in this particular area.
  4. Uh-oh, now I'm really concerned I won't be able to win, Kimbertarget. Maybe I should withdraw the challenge and save myself the embarrassment. With your shooting skills, combined with the fact that I will be shooting a crappy piece of oriental junk, looks like you pretty well have it locked up. On the other hand, I want to be fair. I'm the one who made the challenge, and I guess I need to follow through on my offer. So how's $1,000 sound?
  5. You know about www.combinedresults.info right?
  6. I'm excited about the 929, and I think it's great for the game! I'm having a hard time imagining how it's going to out-perform my 627-5 and 27-7 with Short Colts. I have never experienced sticky extraction, accuracy issues, or any other problems with my 627-5 and 27-7. But I have no doubt that the 929 will be every bit as good, and I will graciously allow myself to be corrected and will jump right on the bandwagon if there turns out to be an advantage to the 929 platform.
  7. Trust me, there are plenty of people who are classified above their ability in Revolver Division, so you'll fit right in. The HHFs they have put in place for Revo vary widely across the different generations of classifers. It really doesn't matter for Revo Division what your class is--at least not until we have enough people playing to actually have real competition at the different class levels--but it can certainly affect your competitive opportunities in the other divisions if you grandbag in Revo (whether intentionally or otherwise). If you're seriously concerned, reload every six shots.
  8. Good to know they are actually starting to ship some guns!
  9. Looking is everything, when it comes to reloading a revolver. Regardless of the holder you are using, bring the gun right down to the belt, and LOOK the moonclip right into the gun.
  10. You guys need to stop jumping up and down in the boat while I am reeling in this fish.
  11. This would probably be workable. Many of the participants will not have a class ranking. Once the main match is scored, it would be pretty easy to divide everybody up into groups based on Satuday's match performance.
  12. CARMONEY- your impressed with it why? Site an example of why it impressed you? Have you competed in any practical matches with your METRO? Are you saying that your confident enough to use this METRO as your E.D.C.? You say your are fortunate to "have a bunch of CUSTOM 1911/2011s" i am extremely curious to see pictures of them and why you decided to buy a METRO. Ive heard about the spring issues they have. The only interesting component i see that the AMIGO must use an E.D.M. Procedure for their HAMMERS since they tried to go for the INFINITY look. The bottom line is what do you do with your pistol? How many rounds down range do you have through it and Do you use their factory magazines? METRO ARMS is like a HYUNDAI (of 1911s) you look at it in the gun shops case and the machining jumps out at you as something impressive because the hammer isnt traditional. I wouldnt buy one normwould i give a METRO to a family member to protect their lives with,i would leave that job to a quality 1911. Your going to be unhappy with my response because you know im not a fan of OUTSOURCING in general, let alone "philp" 1911s(we use another term in SoCal that has no negative racial connotation ).. Everytime we allow another great AMERICAN ICON become "reversed engineered" we are killing out country. HARLEY DAVIDSON and the new liquid cooled engines from INDIA for example. A 1911 in my home is made in the U.S.A. And if i custmize it the A2 parts will be from a machine shop domestically. I will pay more because i dont feel bad when i put them in my safe under my AMERICAN FLAG. Im sure there is an ASIAN comoany with all the same C.N.C.,E.D.M. Equipment we have, but ill never own one. I ALSO find this thread extremely interesting- I ALSO find this thread extremely interesting- I find it interesting how much COLT bashing there is when it is the foundation for 1911s. It doesn't matter what shareholders own it now,COLT stands for something to true PATRIOTS of the U.S.A. I can see by who gets their opinions and "feelings" hurt, WHO is WHO. We wonder why there is a generation of ENTITLEMENT, nobody can get their feelings hurt. EVERYONE has to be correct, I voice my opinion when asked and it turns into a completely different topic. If you are for the "sissification" of AMERICA , to use a radio hosts phrase, that's fine, but demand me to agree with your opinions! Kimbertarget, I'm going to do my best to answer your questions in a straightforward manner, and then I have a challenge for you. While my Metroarms 1911 is certainly not equivalent in quality to many of my high-end custom pistols, it is indeed a very nice gun--especially considering that I only paid something like $340 for it on a whim. I was very surprised at how well the major components were fit--there is no perceivable play between frame and slide, the barrel is fit quite well also, and it cycles extremely smoothly. The polish and bluing on my American Classic are easily the equivalent of any production Colt or Springfield I have purchased. (That said, my first 1911 was a Colt, and I currently own several very nice Colts and Springfields.) After I bought the Metroarms gun, I mildly customized the gun to suit my taste--it now has Dawson sights, an S&W magwell, and a couple other odds and ends. I did a mild trigger job on it, but the guts are all factory stock. I thought the feed ramp was a little abrupt, so even though it worked fine, I gave it a good throating job it for smoother feeding of JHPs and SWCs. The gun fuctions very smoothly--I probably only have a couple thousand rounds through it, but so far it is performing excellently. We won't know any long-term results for awhile, because it's not one of my primary competition guns, but I am plenty confident in the gun. Yes, I have shot a couple matches with it, and it is one of the guns in my regular rotation for concealed carry. I use Wilson magazines almost exclusively in my 9mm, .40, and .45 1911s--I don't believe I have ever used the magazine that came with the Metroarms pistol, and suspect it is still in the box. So now for the challenge I mentioned: My full name is listed at the bottom of every post. My reputation in the competition shooting world is established. I'm a pretty solid shooter, and I have a lot of match experience gained over the past 27 years of competitive shooting. But I'm not a GM in any division and I'm certainly no professional shooter. My work is very demanding, and I don't have much time for practice these days. Now, I don't have the slightest idea who you are or where you live. But I will put my Metroarms 1911 up against any single-stack 1911 you might choose. You and whatever single-stack 1911 you choose, against me and my Americal Classic. You pick the match format--USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenge, whatever. We shoot heads-up for cash. What do you say, Kimbertarget? Are you willing to step up?
  13. I'm working out of town right now, but I will respond (w/ pics) when I get back home. Please mods, don't shut this down in the meantime, OK? Too much fun!
  14. Hey Jake, there's some guy on one of the other shooting forums using your name, and he seems to have only derogatory things to say about revolver shooting. You might want to check into that.
  15. Here's another idea that hit me this evening.....we could leave the stages up for Sunday, but staple up IPSC targets and run any interested competitors back through as an optional side match under USPSA rules. If we started at 8am, I would bet we could have everybody done and on the road by 2pm. Just an idea. Any thoughts?
  16. Yep....I am aware! Yeah I sure miss Bud he was a good guy. I cant remember if I was at that one and if I was evidently I didn't win. :-) Yes, that was the year you, Homm, Sam, and I went to the cajun place in Denver that dumps the food straight onto the table! You were shooting Open, I believe.
  17. Whatever we do on Sunday, we should be able to get it wrapped up and have everybody on the road by 2pm.
  18. Ty, we will get that information up as it develops. Nearest airport is Des Moines, but check prices on Cedar Rapids and Omaha--sometimes you can get better deals if you're willing to drive a couple hours.
  19. OK, this is one of the more entertaining threads I've seen in a while. Kimbertarget, I got another question for ya......I know you're not a big fan of the Filipino guns, but have you handled anything by Metroarms yet? The so-called "American Classic," for example? I bought the first one I saw when they showed up in the mid-$300s a couple years ago, and I have been thoroughly impressed with the gun. I am fortunate to have a bunch of nice custom 1911s and 2011s, but for the money the fit and finish of my Metroarms pistol is pretty unbelievable!
  20. Pat, you might wish to consider our ICORE Midwest Regional in Ankeny, Iowa on July 5-6. We'd love to have some of the CO guys come shoot it with us. See if John Burkholder will ride along with you!
  21. That would be great--are the dates published for the 2014 NW match in Fallon yet?
  22. Cool. Head to ICORE.org and check out the rulebook, etc. It's pretty simple, actually--your guns and gear will almost certainly fit perfectly in one of the three ICORE divisions.
