  1. Hey Lynn, Before you start drilling around, you might try the old trick of degreasing everything then using a drop of super glue on a little allen wrench. If there's a fairly flat surface left, and the screw's not tight in there, sometimes you can back 'em right out. Mike
  2. Yeah, I'll admit that Brownells makes more sense if you benefit from their dealer discount pricing.....can't blame you for wanting to save a buck....on the other hand, just keep in mind that Brownells has proven itself to be a very loyal and generous friend to our sport in an industry climate where many purveyors are turning their backs on competitive handgunning. Brownells is also extraordinarily reasonable and helpful when it comes to things like returns and technical assistance--and there's a value in that, I think. Just something to think about when the prices are close. Mike
  3. Yep, I used to smirk and laugh whenever I'd hear about this guy "Bubber" who could supposedly reload a 686 with Comp III speedloaders just as fast as a good moonclip guy could recharge his 625. Yeah, right......sure.......good one.....tell me another story..... Then I saw him do it with my own eyes at the MO Fall Classic this year! (And if I ever hear anyone whine and cry about being outgunned by the gamey moonclippers, I know exactly where to send 'em......)
  4. For rear sights, plain black is the only way to fly!
  5. I'm definitely planning to be there, wheeling away with the revolver again this year!! The Revolver division is still the smallest, but we have seen some meaningful growth over the last year--I have a strong feeling this will be the best-attended and hardest-fought Revolver Nationals yet! Hopefully we'll get some of those top-flight international IPSC revo guys in attendance, as well as lots of new wheelgunners from here in the States. Looking forward to it!! Mike
  6. Ron, sounds like just about the perfect set-up for this game! Any chance you might shoot that rig at Area 3 (Kansas City) or the USPSA Nationals this year?
  7. Cuz, I think it will be just fine.....order from Brownells and keep your receipt in case it doesn't dial in and you need to trade it for the .312. I know I've used the .360 with factory front on a couple revos over the years, can't quite remember which guns and which bullet weights, though....
  8. Aerosigns, the waiting list is done electronically on the USPSA website, using a credit card. My son and I got to shoot the Nationals last year only because I jumped on as soon as the waiting list went live at 12:00:01 a.m. on the first day the wait list was available. Stay tuned to the forum when we get close to May 1, there will be plenty of conversation about how it all works. Your classification doesn't matter, the waiting list will be handled first-come, first-served. You can only shoot 1 gun per Nationals location -- in other words, you have to choose between R, L, and L-10, but if you wanted to drive to Tulsa in October you can also shoot O or P. Obviously, we'd all like to see you (and your son) shoot Revolver division with us, our revo super squad last year had a fantastic time (lots of pictures posted on the old string about the '05 Nats here in the revolver sub-forum--be sure to check them out). We have every reason to believe that 2006 will be the best-attended and hardest-fought Revolver Nationals ever!! Mike
  9. Hey fellas, I'll let you in on a little secret......Randy's only kidding, actually he loves meeting and talking with fellow revolver shooters at matches. Since many of you don't know what Randy looks like, I've included a picture of him below. You can generally spot him by his trademark green towel hanging from his belt. The best time to stop by and ask him when your gun will be done is just after you hear the words "load and make ready." He's a little hard of hearing, so make sure you talk nice and loud.
  10. Randy, why don't you just get a fake beard or an afro wig or something like that to make yourself completely incognito at matches, so that people will leave you alone and let you shoot? Hey I know!--You could develop an Australian accent and pretend you're with the Aussie contingent?
  11. Nothing makes me shoot worse than having no competition (i.e. no other revolver shooters) to challenge me. Hell, I even created a revolver shooter from scratch just to make sure I'd always have someone to compete with!
  12. This from Kim: Hi guys, It's true that I posted the Nationals dates yesterday and then took them down an hour or so later. I had been given the okay to post around noon and spent the afternoon updating the site. Then there were some last minute planning changes that came through via email from Voigt around 4:30 pm that forced a complete rewrite of what I had there. I realize you're trying to be helpful with snapshots of the page, etc, but there was a reason that information was taken down. Passing along misinformation is likely to cause confusion and serious discontent if someone makes plans based on a snapshot rather than the real thing. I intend to get the left sidebar jam packed with more Nationals info than you can click a mouse at by the end of today, I promise. Just hang in there a little longer. Thanks! We appreciate your patience and cooperation. Kim Williams
  13. Yes, I do like to order stuff through Brownells. They donated an awful lot of those really nice $200 range bags to various USPSA matches this year....they are real friends to our sport. On the other hand, I also like to look for opportunities to maximize my shooting dollar, and I found this excellent source for fiber optic rod at dirt cheap prices: http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Flourescent.htm
  14. Well, now the date/time information is pulled down off the USPSA Nationals website, so who the hell knows what's going on......
  15. I might have forgotten to put a few back in over the years!
  16. I had it wrong on the other post. According to the USPSA Nationals website, the Revolver division nationals will be Sept. 13-16 at PASA, along with L and L-10. Good news for me, not so good for Sam C. (he'll be in school), and not so good for the guys closer to Tulsa who were hoping it would be at USSA..... At least it's not Barry in July, right?
  17. Turns out I had one thing wrong in my original post--according to the official website info, Revolver division will be in PASA with L and L-10 in September. (I edited my original post to reflect this correction.)
  18. I'm sure I have a few extra hammer blocks down in my parts box--if anybody needs one let me know.
  19. Sherwyn used to run a Super on pins at the old Iowa pin matches, and he did reasonably well when (1) the pins were brand new, (2) the tables were steel, not rusty, and brushed completely clean of debris, and (3) he hit them very close to dead-center. (Big heavy bullets are the real answer to pin-shooting, fellas.)
  20. The most significant improvement in my shooting game arrived in a single day-long instant when I saw unmoving ripples on the lake and realized that even the clearest piece of glass distorts the fact that we must each choose only once between bamboo and wicker before the sparrow begins its song of deception........ (just kidding......I want the zen dudes to think I'm really cool.....) My real answer? Watching the front sight.
  21. Rob, great description.....you know your stuff!
  22. When reassembling the new-style hand and trigger, the key is to get under some good light and locate the little hole in the trigger. Once that is accomplished, it will all go together pretty easily.
  23. A couple thoughts: 1. The hammer block is only a secondary passive safety device that is redundant to the primary safety mechanism, which is the engagement between the hammer and the rebound slide. Even with the hammer block out of the gun, the hammer cannot be pushed forward unless the trigger has been pulled far enough to move the rebound slide back. 2. I agree that the hammer block does not create trigger pull problems, and there is no real downside to keeping the block in the gun. 3. We should be very leery of people on internet forums who claim to be lawyers and are passing out free legal advice or war stories. The guy on the S&W forum may in fact be an attorney, but he provides no identifying details that will allow that fact to be checked out, and there are several things about his posts which raise questions in my mind as to whether or not he's for real. Mike (ISBA #15822)
  24. jp, by coincidence I just traded into a Kimber Team Match II in .38 Super at a gun show in Des Moines recently. Actually, I'm very impressed with the gun...I changed out the springs, sighted it in, and shot a USPSA match with it the very next day and finished 2nd in L-10 at 93.44% of our club's best L-10 shooter. Very accurate and reliable so far. (The pistol Scout454 has for sale looks very nice, by the way.) I bought this particular gun to use occasionally in the new provisional Single Stack 1911 division in USPSA, although I expect to shoot my .45 1911s more frequently this year. In Single Stack, the 10-round mags that are available for .38 Super give it a distinct advantage over the 9-rounders available for 9mm. For ESP in IDPA the 9mm would probably be a better choice. .38 Super is definitely only practical for those who reload, but it's a nice easy cartridge to work with...Cabela's has new Remington brass for $80/thousand right now online. I'm not trying to push the .38 Super 1911 concept, by the way, and agree that you should look around and check out what kind of matches are available in your area..... Then again, sometimes I've been known to buy guns on impulse, and if you decide you want a gun like this, be assured there are several fun games you can play with it! It's also really a nice comfortable gun to shoot, with mild (minor power factor) loads. Good luck, Mike
