  1. My definition of revolver friendly: Any stage at any USPSA match in which Revolver Division is properly recognized.
  2. Very well put. In two sentences, Dave just said everything you need to know about revolver actions.
  3. Gosh, Mike, you've got a bending attachment for the Dremel? I've got a half-dozen or so new factory mainsprings. How and where does one bend them? This is one of those rare non-Dremel projects, Chuck! I bend them approximately in the middle. I used to bend them with pliers, but now I usually just bare-hand them against the workbench. Pretty easy--and if you go a little far, no biggie, you just bend it back.
  4. Brett, here again I simply alter the stock spring......it varies a bit from gun to gun, but generally 2 or 2.5 coils off the rebound spring is about right. I have plenty of extras around, including several that I've cut too far...sometimes I keep trying various rebound springs until I find the one that feels just right. This is not an exact science, and I figure if I'm going to be fine-tuning everything anyway, there's no point paying for springs (Wolff, Mic, Vic, whatever) I'm still going to have to fine-tune. Keep in mind the two "big" springs in a S&W revolver must be properly balanced to one another. Your rebound spring that is currently too light (and causing you to short-stroke) may be perfect when mated to a lighter mainspring (assuming you can go lighter and still have 100% ignition). I am not aware of anything on the market you can simply drop into your gun that will give proper spring tensions for a competition revolver action. You have to learn to mess with them. Or so it seems to me, anyway!
  5. Or you can simply bend the stock mainspring to the correct tension, loctite the strain screw, and be done with it.
  6. Thanks Gary, I'm looking forward to facing off with you again at another match in the near future! It was a pleasure squadding with you at the Blast.
  7. Vic must be a distant cousin to P.T. Barnum if he's convincing people to pay $40 or $45 for a frickin' revolver spring. C'mon now, you revolver guys oughta know better. (edited to add smilies so my post didn't sound so mean-spirited.)
  8. Absolutely. Let me know if there's a problem so I can get them served with the papers.
  9. Glenn, it was great to have you and Gary R. join the wheelgun crowd at the Blast! You were the very two guys who first took us up to 20 shooters, giving us the number needed to qualify for Nationals slot awards. Thanks again for having the guts to call my bluff, step up and join USPSA, just to be able to shoot the Blast with us! You're "made guys" now, and remember there's no leaving "this thing of ours."
  10. All of these are just a few minutes from the range: AmericInn 111 Ariel Circle (641) 342-9400 www.americinn.com Best Western Regal Inn 1520 Jeffreys St (641) 342-2123 www.bestwestern.com Days Inn 710 Warren Avenue (641) 342-6666 www.daysinn.com Super 8 Motel 720 Warren Drive (641) 342-6594 www.super8.com Terrible's Lakeside Casino Resort 777 Casino Drive (641) 342-9511 http://www.terribleherbst.com/casinos/midwest_lakeside/ Keith, the casino is actually pretty decent, with nice dealers and a friendly crowd. Just watch out if you decide to get in a Texas-Holdem cash game, because 2-7 offsuit is known all around the state as the "Osceola Big Slick."

  12. When I saw the stages posted online I had absolutely no idea that shooters were required to start with a live struggling chicken in each hand. Let me tell you it was quite a distraction, with all the feathers and clucking noise. By the time I shot the stage (late on Sunday morning), the chickens had quieted down a little, but it was still quite an experience. Hats off to Larry and company for dreaming up this unique match feature.
  13. Yeah!! Cliff Walsh and Dave and Nemo are all signed up!! Man, this is gonna be great!!
  14. Oh yeah, that truly was a hilarious moment! Glenn just looked at him with this totally astonished look and said "You're Cliff Walsh???" God it was funny. I think Glenn expected the "three amigos" to look like a bunch of lean, muscular, pro golfers with blond hair and golden tans. (Pro bowlers is more like it.)
  15. It's official, the notice is posted on the USPSA match calendar, and the entry form is posted here: http://www.ioweb.com/oops/ Note that only Single-Stack can be shot on Saturday, and only Revolver can be shot on Sunday. We will be changing the stages between the matches. Don't let the low price fool you, each of these back-to-back matches will be comparable to our Iowa Sectional that has been so well received over the past couple years. We can handle 60 shooters per match. This is going to be big fun, guys! You've seen all these articles in Front Sight about the good old days, right? Now's your chance to live it! Retro is cool, and it doesn't get any more retro in our game than 1911s and wheelguns! (Feel free to leave the tight shorts and tube socks in the bottom drawer, though.....) Stages are being finalized and approved as we speak. Each match will have 10 stages, including 6 long field courses, 3 speed shoots, and a classifier. Two of the long stages are through-the-woods "Rambo" style, these are really fun and very different than what you see at most shooting venues. There are plenty of motel options in the area, including a bona fide casino boat just a few miles down the road for those who like to roll the dice or play a little blackjack. Questions? Post here, or you can email or call me for more info.
  16. Not me, dude!! Just a stock $450 gun show 625 with some home hatchet work in my holster (when it wasn't falling out onto the ground between stages, that is)..... Nice seeing and talking with you and Echo!
  17. Jeff, you think I was happy about having to re-shoot that friggin' DQ death trap of a stage??? Get real, man.
  18. For the record: With no "hilljack cleaning solvent" anywhere in the immediate vicinity Saturday night, Cliff was off to bed relatively early with only his usual sustenance level of Coors Light in his system. (Whatever you do, please don't use the phrase "pumped with fluids" around Cliff, we sure don't need any PTSD responses to be triggered after what happened to him at the hands of the hilljacks at Area 5 last year....same with banjo music....)
  19. OK guys, I made my plane! Congratulations to Dan, and everybody who shot the wheel at the Blast. What a great time!! Great to see lots of old friends, and just as great to meet lots of new friends in person for the first time! Thanks to Larry, Gary, Linda, and all the rest of the fine staff for putting on a quality match like this. You guys really went out of your way to make us wheelgunners feel welcome, thanks very much for that.
  20. Rob, it's kind of a long haul, but I really hope you can make it out for the Iowa match. We will do our very best to make it worthwhile for all of our friends in both Revo and SS divisions.
  21. Guys, the entries are starting to arrive and so far, the Revolver entries are well ahead of Single-Stack! (Last year we had between 40 and 50 Single-Stack shooters at this match.) Remember, we can accommodate 60 shooters per match. Still looking for a couple experienced ROs to help out. Drop me a PM or email if interested. Stages are roughed out, and I think they look great! We're planning 6 long field courses, 3 speed shoots, and the new ultimate hoser classifier: http://www.uspsa.com/classifiers/06-03.pdf Two of the long courses are "Rambo-style" through-the-woods stages, those are always great to get the adrenalin pumping! We're using most of our club's props and equipment (door, star, activators, etc.), and we are planning a few twists just to keep things interesting. After the stages are finalized and approved, we'll make them available here so everybody can see what we have planned. Guys, if at all possible, jump on this one. It could turn out to be another record-setter, which is what USPSA's leaders and memberships need to see from us. Remember, $30 for one match, $50 for both. How can you go wrong??
  22. Steve, I really don't think so. Hell, there's never enough of us at a match to have the class system come into play in anything other than an arbitrary way, so I can't imagine anybody doesn't want to move up in class in Revo Division. With the increase in Revo participation, this could change. Now that we're beginning to see dozens of wheelgunners showing up at some matches instead of just a few lone wolves, sandbagging could become a factor. But never with the true pure-hearted revolver shooters like those of us on this forum! Just for the record, we tease Dan about this, but we're purely kidding. If you ask me, he's over-achieved on his classifiers. (heh-heh!) With 15,000+ Revolver Division classifiers on record, USPSA should have more than adequate data to give us true classifications based on our own true performance as a division. Push a couple buttons on the master computer, and voila, it's done. Somebody simply needs to talk to Dave Thomas about this, he can make it happen.
