  1. seems like this is the one cartridge that UNIQUE really shines.. U clays should work well too. THe lee powder measure is going to like ball powders better than flake powder. 231, hp38 (same stuff ) should work just spiffy... I assume any quick powder would be good...clays comes to mind for light loads. www.gibrass. com has the same powder sold as accurate arms number 2 for 56 dollars for 6 pounds..not bad stuff at all. its what i use in 38 special and 9mm practice loads. but unique should be the stuff for a 250 grainer at bout 850 fps. for fun try some meister 160s, they should be nice.
  2. Winchester action pistol is no longer in production but Ramshot silhouette is the same powder, might give it a shot...seems like it makes major OK. 4756 seems to be an OK powder if you buy 5 pound cans of it...i use it in my 9mm production gun and it shoots good and soft(even without a comp) my load was 6.3 grains of 4756 and a 115 FMJ..i recently got a can of powder that was a little slow..my gun would stovepipe with 6.3, i had to bump it up to 6.7 and thats damn near a case full on the 9mm. i am going to burn up the rest of it, then im switchin to something more uniform..probably U clays or something similar. Last time i checked Clark Custom guns had SP2 powder. 8 pounds for 120 dollars.. i was curious as to why i couldnt get any VV powders, i guess now i know. Does blue dot work in an OPEN gun?? just a thought
  3. here recently i have been reading from the pages of brians book. nice book. while reading everything i felt unsure about during shooting was becoming more and more clear. i went to the gun range today, we set up the ever popular 15 yard bill drill. first run was 1.30 draw, 2.23 with one point down. second run was the best 1.90 with a 1.16 draw and no points dowjn..thats the best i have ever done, and the best i have ever seen...odds are i cant do it again..as the rest of my times were around 2.25 or so down a point or two.. i can say that reading brians book(some of it, as i just got it) helped me out lots so far..i cant wait to finish it,...its great i gotta go read DVC
  4. with clays(or any powder for that matter) in auto pistol rounds the powder is all burnt up before the bullet even leaves the case..with the 9mm and the 40 the cartridge has reached peak pressure and is starting to drop just as the heel of the bullet clears the case...the rest of the barrel is just to allow the gas products to expand. yeah major 40s loaded with clays sound kinda funny...minor 40s with clays sound like firecrackers that got wet...its almost pathetic. Kapooof!
  5. im with al on the TJ trigger job...think dawson showed him how and now he does them his self...I say this because Dawson is TJ s gunsmith and our Area 4 director ken hicks said that dawson did the same trigger job TJ gets on his pistol...maybe BOTH me and Al misheard... on a side note, you would think a 1000 dollar pistol wouldnt need any work done to it.
  6. light loads with slower powders probably dont get the best ingition...Im not sure N330 is a slow powder but i guess its certainly slower than 310 also i found using the lee factory crimp die gave more consistent velocity with all loads..seems the uniform bullet "pull" created a more consistent burn. BTW how do berrys bullets compare to rainier or west coast plated bullets.. i remember shooting some 230 grain 45 berry bullets but i think i only shot 100 or so of them.. i currently use rainiers they do everything i ask of them.
  7. finally got around to testing out monsters load(well sorta)....not having any VV powders in my area i used what i had, and even though it uses a touch more powder the load is really low pressure.. primers still have the "rounded look" and i get no primer flow into the G-lock rectangle striker hole..primers look like they were fired out of a regular gun. my load was winchester cases 3.7 grains of WSF. 147 grain precision lead bullet. WSP 1.155 OAL over the chrono out of my ruger p89 it went 902 fps on ten shot avg. very little ES out of my G-lock 34 it moved up to 937fps.... both were soft and quite..not much like shooting winchersters or blazers...like monster said a big rimfire...the only bad thing was there was some unburnt powder in the barrel..small flakes not really much but there was some....truth be known i was probably light enough that i didnt get a good burn....when i run WSF near the red,. its really clean. gonna try WST or 231, as im scared of clays and 147s in the 9mm. sometime im gonna try them out on stubborn steel pepper poppers. uncalibrated poppers always fall really slow with 115s, maybe the 147s will speed them up.
  8. straight clays, winchester super target... i use 3.8 clays and a 230lead and in texas it makes 179pf. jacketed 230s require 4.0 in my gun they make 170 pf... for the 200s, especially the jackted bullets, you might have to cook the books a little to make major.. no big deal its not the extra pressure that batters your 45 with +p ammo, its the extra slide velocity... 4.5 and a lead 200 swc make major with clays....i havent really fooled around with WST too much..i do know it has a softer report than clays recoil is softer too BTW either of these two is much cleaner than TG...but not that TG is a bad 45 powder....it just gets used for shotshells at my house.
  9. 310 dollars for just the slide??? makes the caspian look cheap... and the g22 slide look even better. i guess what i really need to do is find someone with a G24 they dont want and releive them. im gonna get me a limited gun on milk money...flex would be proud... lookin like G22 KKM or bar sto barrel, sights, trigger, mag well, 4 high caps, and some of that TruGrip tape or lots of skateboard tape....then i will just shoot the damn gun, not worry bout anything else. Harmon
  10. yeah if the AWB doesnt sunset, looks like more of the same...Good thing i have a half dozen glock high cap 40s that the tubes were damaged beyond repair...I guess i will have to buy some new tubes to replace them with(assuming the AWB doesnt sunset) this may be a thread drift, but i saw a man at the GSSF match in texas shooting a limited glock.. his magazines were blaze orange with dawson silver pads..kinda tacky looking but kinda cool also.. he claimed the mags were training mags he picked up in california for like 25 dollars each..fully metal lined factory glock high cap 40....nice find.. i guess if you didnt like orange, you could paint them
  11. OK thanks flex, not nearly as many G-lock limited shooters out there(at least not in texas) as there are S_I and para. I want a 24 slide, but seems its hard to get a 24 here,, maybe not i guess i really need to look hard. but as i start to think about it, my 34 aside from having a touch lighter trigger shoots not too much better than the 17s i have shot,, makes me think if its even worth changing slides...i dont know ho much the longer sight radius really helps... the factory glock slide will work good enough...that means 300 dollar glock, some trigger work, aftermarket barrel and a set of sights(the ones on the gun in question are plastic and pretty worn) i could have a 500 dollar limited gun that doesnt require me sell the farm! when you gun costs 500 dollars, the cost of 140 mm mags can catch up fast...sad this day in america when you can tie up the cost of a gun in 5 magazines.
  12. Flex, sorry bout the explicit post you deleted, MM just makes me angry. im not tellin you where im gonna get a used LE glock for 300, but i will tell you where you can get a ex LE G22 used for 330 dollars. www.aimsurplus.com they have them for 330, but of course you have to have it transferred through an ffl. speaking of used glocks, a friend of mine bought a G17 with two hi cap mags (not FML) for 250 dollars....used from a texas parks and wildlife guy... the reason it didnt sell too quickly is he told all the uspsa shooters it was the ported gun, it wasnt as for the aftermarket barrel, the better support comes from the chamber being cut tighter than the G-lock chamber, right? as far as i can tell Glock chambers are cut loose to make them feed nearly anything....they are not unsupported like a regular ole 1911 in 38 super... seems the new glocks have slightly tighter chambers than the older ones. my g34s rifling looks diff than the two other 9mm glocks i have seen....looks more lands and grooves than polygonal...but still doesnt shoot lead at all. i like glocks and can make mine really sing..12 yard plate rack and a popper in 3.79 seconds with sleepy 1.5 second draw. 9X19 just isnt gonna score major so i am looking for a 40 caliber gun... i need to buy the LE glock and put a caspian/KKM upper on it Flex, what do your brass look like after being fired in aftermarket barrel? what kind of trigger voodoo did you do? or is it box stock? glock shoots really good and if i can get a G-lock/Caspian limited gun for under a grand while a S_I goes for 1600+ well seems like i got a glock project on my hands i will post pics when i get started.
  13. good shotgun powder nonetheless...i didnt like it in pistols but works well for skeet loads.
  14. is a glock 35 or 24 too light to be competitive against the STI guns? suppose you have a G24 and tungsten guild rod, and big brass heavy magwell. will this bring up the wieght much... with a glock you would have to load them shorter than STI but seems that would be a blessing in disguise as you use less powder to make major, but you cant use the real quick stuff that lots of people like... winchester factory "value pack" 40s make major right?? I have made up my mind i want a limited gun instead of open gun, i shoot G34 in production and i see no problems with it..its a big gripped gun but i have fairly large hands. im looking at used G22, caspian G24 stainless slide... some trigger work to get it sweet and bar-sto barrel to shoot any bullet i fancy.. BTW if you are gonna put a 3.5 pound connnector in your G-lock, get the ghost rocket. its not drop in but it has a overtravel control tab that you fit to your pistol. i have my G34 set up with NO overtravel. this cut the reset distance in half and with just some minor polishing of trigger parts, i get about a 2.75 pound pull thats still glock reliable..(no light primer hits) the limited g-lock i speak of will have a lightened striker and a reduced power striker spring in an effort to get it in the 2 pound range. i assume i will have to use federal primers unless i like hearing click instead of bang at the match. Can we still get the G24? or am i better of with rebarreling a 35? i can get a used LE glock for 300 dollars. i figure i could have a limited gun for less than a grand, a good limited gun at that. also looking into a para, any thoughts? harmon

    ar mags

my ex marine brother in law showed me how the marines unloaded them,at least when they were not shooting the damn gun. he took a loaded 223 round and just raked them out of the mag, i watched him dump 30 in about 10 seconds..
  16. seems to be really fast for 9mm, should work OK in 45 though, or 38 special wadcutters... man i really like shooting wadcutters out of a 27 smith, no recoil no noise hardly and a nice break from all this speed shooting stuff. i do love USPSA though..
  17. any of you fellas know how this stuff meters in the sub 5 grain range...RCBS piggyback with uniflow powder measure doent really meter anything but ball powders very well once you get under 4 grains.. i need a dillon 650,
  18. for me there isnt a difference between match loads and practice loads, i load one round, yeah it may cost more at practice time, but i can go to a match with any 9mm ammo i have loaded and shoot. some people dont chamber check practice ammo, thats a bad habbit and will eventually bite you in the ass. i have seen soooo many failures to chamber due to unchecked ammo(some factory ammo too) in just 6 months. i check all mine my G-lock doesnt seem to like lead too much, not only does it not shoot worth a damn with lead, the barrel fills with lead FAST i shoot rainier bullets, just about as cheap as lead, good as jacketed.
  19. yes, i now know i can get WAP again, i have been shootin it in my 9mms and it shoots great, a smite dirty, but still shoots good. i plan on building a dedicated 9mm steel comp gun, WAP works great in them. WSL and TG may not be te same, but they are interchangeable. i just believe they added a flash suppressant. both powders seem "blasty" in 9mm and 45.
  20. im gonna try BJ norris load of 5,4 accurate number 5 and a 147 precision, or master blaster or wherever i can get coated bullets. although im looking for a can of VV N310 i have been wanting to try it in my 45s for some time now.
  21. the only AA powders i can think of is 452 and 473. one way a shotgun reloader can check and see if the powder is the same density as the other.. take a bushing in your shotgun reloader, weigh a charge of WST or 452 or whatever you call it. then put the mystery powder in there and weigh it... look on the bushing chart and see what looks right,, its kinda iffy, but its closer than just guessing. if you only have a pound of it, and still cant find data, i suggest celebrating the 4th with it. write your name with a powder trail and light it, cool stuff now if you have 8+pounds, might oughta find something it will work in. my 2 cents. Might be super lite? but that never had AA on the can. i have two circa 1995 cans of super target and super field that have AA, then super field or target under it...but it also has WSF1 and WST1 under that. a side note: i have always found winchesters powder nomenclature kinda cryptic. in the early 90s, when i was just a wee lad, i tended to stay away from stuff i didnt know, plus the 10 pounds of bullseye just ran out about 5 years ago....BTW you have to shoot lots of 38 wadcutters to burn 10 pounds of bullseye..i used it in everything else though, 44, 357 45 12ga ect. its good when people move out of rent houses fast and leave a 8 pound jug an 2 1 pound cans.
  22. seems like i have shot both of them,(mainly in shotguns) and the loads are almost identical and produce identical results. is this a result of winchester selling WSL to hodgdon? lets see whats the same HP38 and 231 296 and H110 540 and HS6 HS7 and 571 seems like TG is a little more blasty than super lite in pistols, skeet load tell no difference. whatchoo think?
  23. a fellow by the name of ken hicks shoots times two(he has done it several times)at 100 percent in everything but revolver(he doesnt shoot revolver) and production... production is getting close to 100 percent....i guess times two is his favorite... i have never shot times two, need to though, looks fun
  24. buddy has a sti edge 9mm, man thats a sweeeet gun/ maybe a touch heavy for a 9, slow transitions kill a steel gun. my glock 34 can haul some ass on steel.. i bet if i had the sti, i could shoot faster as the gun has less felt recoil. off the subject a lil bit, i am looking to build a single stack 9mm for steel, comp, optics, this isnt going to be a limited gun. i say get the 9mm, it will feed as good as the supers, plus brass is everywhere and if you dont fancy reloading the 9, ammo is cheap cheap. i really think i shoot steel faster with 145 pf ammo than i do with 125 pf ammo, especially in my glock.. my 45 with 155 pf ammo smokes the steel down, 40 oz and nearly no recoil makes some fast shootin.
  25. imr 4227 probably wont meter as well as accurate arms number 9, H110 or win 296, all of these are ball type powders and work great in carbines. VV N110 should work too, just a mite expensive compared to H110. hodgdon Lil Gun should work as well. i believe you will use less powder with it.. alliant 2400 isanother good powder that should work great.... 4227 would work good if the dillon measure woudld meter it.
