  1. Ah, for some reason I saw that as July 2012. Probably not going to get a response anytime soon.
  2. How many of the firing out of battery glocks were stock triggers with standard strength recoil and striker springs?
  3. save your self the 1/2 second, just position the flaps off to one side only touching less than 1/4 of the speedloader and pull them out at an angle..nobody will make you stand on your head to see if they fall out.. Good idea, or you can make a cut right down the center of the flap, put speedloader in, tighten velcro down on each side of the loader and you've got it. Secure enough to hold them upside down and they come right out on a reload. I've tried this method when I was in a pinch for carriers at a USPSA match. It worked, although the money spent on Ready Tac, etc will be money well-spent if you're serious about hanging in the division. That's also a good idea. I am slightly annoyed that something that is considered "standard equipment" for ICORE and USPSA is illegal in IDPA even though the 333s have a perfectly good retention system that does not require covering the body of the loader up. Of course that's just me complaining about having to spend more money...

Good idea! I'll try that out this weekend at steel challenge when I reload between strings.
  5. Good. I can stuff a Comp III into it if necessary and just eat 1/2 second on the reload.
  6. These are legal though, right? I have a couple of these laying around if anyone decides to call me out on it, I just don't want to mess up my muscle memory for when I shoot ICORE and USPSA.
  7. Why are the Safariland 333s illegal for IDPA? Is it because the holder does not cover the "full body" of the Comp III? If so, can you just mod them so they have an extra 1/2 inch of material that does cover up the body to make them legal? I plan on shooting IDPA with the 333s. I don't think anyone will call me out on it at my local range, as I will probably be one of 2 revo shooters on a given day but I would like to know so that I don't get sent home in a larger match setting.
  8. Thanks for the support. I wound up fixing it without having to force it. After careful inspection of the pin I noticed that it was burred up, like someone had hit it with a hammer. 5 seconds of sanding down the burr with an india stone and the trigger slid right off! I was able to put the hand back on, reassemble the gun, and lighten the trigger pull by putting in the spring pack that was the start of all of this. After that adventure I think I'll leave the trigger job to the pros...
  9. I guess it's what I get for buying a $400 gun. Might as well get a trigger job on it while it's in the shop.
  10. I called Chester. It's going to the doctor in a couple of days.
  11. The problem I'm having right now is the bent pin preventing me from taking the trigger assembly out. I'm afraid to muck with it and try to bend it or file it because I'm not sure how sturdy the pin is mounted to the frame.
  12. I've put the gun into a box and closed the lid. Awaiting further instruction.
  13. I was taking apart a newly acquired 686 and I think I just FUBARed it! I stupidly took off the hand from the trigger assembly and the tiny spring has moved to where I can't grab it with tweezers. Then I tried to just completely disassemble the gun so I could get the trigger out but it's stuck. Upon closer inspection it looks like the trigger pin (the one attached to the frame) has been bent to the point where I can't slide the trigger out. So now I'm stuck, I can't put the thing back together, and I can't take it apart to put it back together. How would I bend this pin back to center so I can reassemble? Or is there a trick to getting the hand spring back to where it should be so I don't have to? I'm afraid of snapping the pin off. This is as far as the trigger will slide out on the pin. I know it's hard to see, but the trigger pin is slightly bent towards the trigger guard.
  14. I don't care about people knowing the serial, I just went xxxx because the last four shouldn't be relevant for dating the gun.
  15. Hello everyone. I wanted to come by and post an update of how the old fried chicken gun is doing. I've used it for two months shooing ICORE and Steel Challenge and let me say, it's a blast! This thing is very accurate and has become the most reliable gun in my collection. I've probably put at least 500 rounds through it in a competition setting and it has not failed me once. Unfortunately for it, a comment by my revolver guru has done it in. "You should look for a shorter revolver, that hog leg is too long to get out of the holster!" Went back to the same pawn shop and lo and behold... I walked home with a excellent condition S&W 686 no dash for $410! Can anyone help me date this revolver? The serial number is AJMxxxx. Photos below
  16. That is a pretty gun. There's currently a nice condition S&W 686 at a pawn shop calling my name... I might have to bench my CZ project for a little while
  17. I am very much inclined to make good blasters out of rescue guns. It's satisfying to save something that was destined for the junkyard and rebuilding it. Somewhat relatedly, I also have a bad habit of rescuing broken dogs and rehabilitating them. Currently I have 3 broken dogs, one is broken physically and mentally (severe hip displasia and retarded), one is sad (doggie depression/super shy), and the third is desperate for attention(was in solitary confinement for 6 years).
  18. Don't Makarov a mistake you'll regret.
  19. This is a slight thread jack but I didn't want to clog up the forum with stupid questions. How high is your support elbow/ do you fully extend your shooting arm? I was watching a video of steel challenge super squad and noticed some shooters shot with bent arms, holding the gun closer to the body. I tried this and it was faster in dry fire to haul the gun around. I wonder if this advantage is offset by poorer recoil control? I was testing elbows almost locked vs support elbow bent almost parallel to the ground. Seems like this hold "pinches" the gun in place. Anyone else hold their gun like that?
  20. Can any 1911 experts tell me if my recoil spring is too heavy from this video? Ignore the killer stick, but to me it seems like the brass is a bit lazy coming out of the gun. I'm shooting 230gr leads at around 170pf on a 19# hammer spring and a "13" pound recoil spring from Wilson combat. I'm not entirely convinced its a 13 pound spring from the feel of the slide, feels more like a 16 pounder. What I felt during that stage, being the first time I've ever just hosed a target as fast as I could reset the trigger, was my gun climbing slightly per shot, ending probably about two inches higher than when I started blasting, so I'm thinking either my grip wasn't perfect or the slide might not the slamming forward hard enough to bring the sights back down.
  21. I yanked the activator rope as hard as I could to start this stage, with hilarious results. I was getting crap from my squad for the rest of the day!
  22. I guess I should post an update on what ultimately happened... Beretta was removed from competition because I just couldn't get used to the sights being so tiny and the higher bore axis was slowing me down. That and the grip is really fat. The 1911 got better with the purchase of a magwell and some rear sight filing. Now it reloads faster than the Glock and has some pretty quick sights. I like shooting it in IDPA and USPSA, the 8 round mags force me to do more stage planning. Glock is well... still a Glock. I'm the most consistent with it and turn in the best times (probably due to low bore axis, 9mm, and more practice) I also bought a revolver to play in ICORE. Man, I would sure love a 625JM and a CZ SP01 Shadow. Luckily my finances caught up to me and I got a bit of a reality check so my gun buying spree has been stopped for now.
  23. Sparky, I'm not sure what happened to my messenger when I went to reply it didn't let me. But to respond to your PM, I'm actually pretty happy with the grip on the Glock now, I bought some pro grip and it gives me that little bit "extra" to my grip.
  24. I'm currently in semi-remission and am content to shoot my G34 and occasionally my 1911 for SS/CDP. Sadly there will be a bonus in August which may cause my gunitis to come back in full force! The CZ Shadow T is calling my name....
  25. I've noticed much of what everyone is saying. When I'm doing a standing reload, the gun drops a couple of inches. When I'm reloading on the run, it definitely drops to chest level. But at the same time, when I'm running to a new shooting position, my reloads are done well before I get there and so the reload time is effectively hidden in the run time. I'll have to pay attention to how I reload during competition, flubbed reloads tend to happen more while standing with gun high as sometimes I misangle my mag and wind up catching it on the grip gap on my glock (no magwell). Ever since putting a magwell on my 1911, I have been gravitating towards shooting it more and more, reloads are just much easier and I feel like I can't miss as long as I'm in the same zip code as the gun. I just shove and them mags find their way into the gun...
