  1. I shoot a Volquartsen 22/45 Scorpion. I took the comp off as I believe it is faster transitioning between the steel as the gun is lighter which means more than any reduced muzzel flip from the compensator. I shoot either CCI standard velocity , SK, or Wolf and my gun runs flawlessly. I use a C-more RTS2 red dot which is light and keeps the dot low for more of a regular sight view. I usually finish in the top 3 overall. Previously I shot a Kimber 22 with a C-more sight. It was good also but not as fast as the Volquartsen. This combination has helped me beat shooters that are much better than I am.
  2. I like Wolf and SK for my Volquartsen V10X. I won the steel match last Saturday with it. For my Kimber 1911and Ruger 22/45 I like the CCI mini mags and the Federal auto match as it is higher velocity which is needed for the Kimber. The standard velocity is more accurate and recommended for the Volquartsen. The Captain
  3. I shoot 9 minor off the shelf in my Steelmaster. Make A hits and your points are the same. Unless you are going to major matches and want to make GM then just have fun and shoot off the shelf ammo. If you get real good you will be buying another gun anyway. The Captain
  4. I shoot off the shelf 9mm in my Steelmaster. All makers work fine. I have had it tuned by a local gunsmith but it runs great at USPSA matches and fun shoots. I have been shooting it about 3 years now. Mine is set up with a steel guide rod and a 9 pound spring. I do not use the recoil master. Major loads will shoot but the compensator is made for minor loads. The Captain
  5. Sweet! I love my Stee Master. The Captain
  6. I started shooting open within 6 months of when I started shooting competitions. I was in my 60's when I started shooting and it was a lot easier to shoot with a red dot. I still shoot open and haven't looked back. The Captain
  7. There are a number of young girls in the AASA club here in San Antonio that use Ruger 22/45 Mark III with 5" barrels that do very well at the matches. The Captain
  8. I have a Kimber 22, not a conversion with a c-more on it that I shoot for steel challenge. It works great. I had a gunsmith add the serendipity c-more to the aluminum frame. Love to shoot it. The Captain
  9. Thanks Steve for putting this match on. I plan on being there and will sign up at the match. I plan on shooting with Jerome H an John H. See you next weekend. Bob Boyd
  10. I had a c-more Serendipity put on my Kimber 22(not a conversion but the light 22 model they make) and it is a great steel gun. I also added a flared maxwell and oversized mag release an 15 round Ceiner mags. I love this gun and vey accurate and quick for shooting steel challenge. I highly recommend the c-more red dots. Have them on my open STI open guns also. Bob "The Captain"
  11. Love the STI guns. I have a Trojan in 9mm with flared maxwell, oversized mag release and a trigger job. It runs flawlessly and accurate. Very little recoil compared to a Springfield loaded 9mm I had and sold. Wilson Combat 10 round mags and you are set. I would buy a USPSA STI but I have 2 open guns in 9mm, a Steelmaster and a Grandmaster so I don't shoot single stack very often. I only shoot 9mm as I buy off the shelf ammo and don't want to reload. Spend the money and buy what you want now and it will be much cheaper in the long run. Bob "The Captain"
  12. Here is my new 22 steel challenge gun. At the first match everyone was kidding me about having a Star Wars Laser. I finished 5th out of 28 overall. I think I can do better the more I shoot it. The Captain Volquartsen V-10X
  13. I run mine also with a 9 pound spring and a guide rod. Runs flawlessly. The Captain
  14. I have a 22/45 Mark III with 6 7/8" barrel and it runs great for steel challenge. It has a Ultradot red dot on it. My favorite is my Kimber 1911 22, not a conversion but a strictly made 22. I have done lots to it including flared maxwell, oversized mag release and c-more red dot and trigger job. I love this gun and do well with it at steel challenge and fun shoots. The biggest advantage to this one on fun shoots is I have 14 & 15 round mags for it. I just got a Volquartsen V-10X with compensator, upper and lower rails and C-More red dot. It is an awesome custom 22 but very pricey. It is very accurate and runs great. I haven't shot it in competition yet but maybe this weekend. I just love shooting 22's in competition. The Captain
  15. Well I bought a Volquartsen V 10 X and ran it one stage last Saturday. It ran flawlessly but the c-more I added was off a little. I am sighting it in tomorrow so I can shoot a steel match this weekend. I will let you know what happens. The Captain
  16. That is great! I shot today also but had one stage with 3 no shoots and 2 mikes. It was still better than not shooting a match on fathers day. It is all good. The Captain
  17. I have a STI Trojan in 9mm and it runs great. STI makes great guns. I do not reload so the ammo is cheap compared to other caliber guns. The Captain
  18. Welcome back to Texas. I live in San Antonio and there is lots of shooting competitions throughout the state. Get ready to have lots of fun with a bunch of great guys. The Captain
  19. I have the Wilson 10 round mags that I bought on this site and they have worked great with factory ammo in my Trojan. I highly recommend them. I also added a flared mag well and oversized mag button. It is a sweet single stack gun. The Captain
  20. Good idea. I have an Ultra Dot on it so I really just need the parts to upgrade it. Does anybody know where you can buy higher capacity mags for the Ruber Mark lll 22/45?
  21. Welcome to the world of USPSA. I shot my first match 3 years ago and was hooked. If you can afford it you might want to consider a 1911 style gun like an STI. When I started I kept looking at price but now after many trials I'm an STI guy. I can afford it so the extra cost doesen't affect my lifestyle. My advise would be take your time on the courses and the speed will come with time. Watch what the good shooters are doing on the stages to see how to attack it. Have fun.
  22. I love shooting my Steelmaster in both USPSA and Steel challenge. Cheap to shoot off the shelf ammo if you don't reload like me. A very fun gun to shoot. The Captain
