  1. My first match was last Saturday and I am using a 930JM 8+1, FSL12s (2), and a TWinS on a Safariland ELS belt. Stage 3a was an all shotgun stage and there was a bonus of 30 seconds if the swinger would flip all the way over. Other targets were a knockdown that kicked up a clay, 3 more knockdowns, about 6 round knockdown discs on poles. I was loading from the FSL12 offhand and was able to get 8 shells loaded PDQ after swinging the swinger and shooting the big knockdowns. My stage time was 4 seconds (with bonus) and finished 3rd out of 32 shooters so I am happy with the load 2 technique. Also note I am a total newb as two other stages had Texas Stars and I shot them from bottom up. I have been cowboy shooting for 8 years and know how to do the Star so I chalk them up to first match nerves. Couple of other experienced shooters on my posse were real impressed with the FSL12s.
  2. Hey ole buddy. I'll let you touch it at the next shoot....LOL.
  3. Still a virgin 3Gun shooter and hope to shoot my first match next month (am a 20-30 second SASS shooter and an OK USPSA shooter). My new Rock River ATH 18" has been on order for close to 12 weeks and I got crazy (impatient) and ordered a Noveske 18" upper (2 days ago) to put on my Colt H-Bar lower so I have something to shoot at the Milcopp training and the June Mill Creek, KS match. The new upper cost nearly as much as the whole Rock River rifle so I guess I am not real bright (ya duh). My gun shop called this afternoon to tell me the Rock River arrived and I already knew the Noveske was going to get here today. OH crap. I now have 2 rifles that are new to me on the same day. WOW. The Rock River 18" rifle will wear a Burris MTAC 1-4x and RTS irons. I'd like to think the Noveske which is really light would be good for a run and gun so I need to look at scope options. Leaning towards an Aimpoint Mico T1. Help me figure out the right way to proceed for a back up rifle. Answering my own question. I went out and shot (first time) the RRA with Burris MTAC and I love that optic. The backup rifle will wear an MTAC too. The RTS irons are pretty cool too.
  4. My setup is now over $800 and I need another Pinwheel so it will be close to $900 with shipping when I am done. Outer Belt $40 Inner Belt $17 ELS Bracket Kit $30 x 5 Rifle Mag pouch (774) $25 x 3 Pistol Mag pouch (771) $25 x 4 Blade-Tech DOH for 5.25 $70 Mid-ride loop adapter $20 QLS brackets $35 Carbon Arms FSL12 $135 x 2 Carbon Arms SSL PinWh $50 This has become an addiction.
  5. I hope so. I added the XXL Nordic cap and a bright orange follower (with spring guide) This: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/218305/choate-high-visibility-magazine-follower-mossberg-500-600-12-gauge-polymer-orange I can now get 9 and 1/2 shells in there. The orange follower was added because I can see that I am empty a heck of a lot easier than with the standard short black follower and the orange one is stopping me from getting a 10th shell in the tube. For now I am OK with that. Also added a Briley LM extended choke. I think maybe it is tricked out enough. Maybe...
  6. Never mind. A little search via Google found the thread. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=149227
  7. I thought about addressing this directly to Mark but decided others might have some knowledge. I just received a couple of FSL12s and a Pinwheel and need to attached them to ELS forks. The holes line up fine but the ELS hardware (screws and such) is not going to work and I want to do this right the first time. Someone please tell me what screws/nuts/bolts/bailing wire I need to pick up at Home Depot to make this work. Also the gear from Carbon Arms seems to be #1 and I am excited to learn the load 4.
  8. I asked the same question a few weeks ago and was told to buy my same waist size and was also told to buy the next size up. I bought the next size (40) and have pretty much put my belt together and I have about a 4 1/2" wrap around which I am happy with. For a thinner guy that much wrap around might be too much. I have 8 ELS 35 plates attached. edit: Bought my waist size inner belt.
  9. Carlson offers tubes for the 500 and the 835/935. Which one fits the 930? http://www.choketube.com/index.php
  10. Which brand extended choke are folks putting on their 930?
  11. Will swapping the magazine cap for the 1 1/2" Nordic Components cap allow me to get another round in the magazine?
  12. Just ordered a complete belt setup from MidwayUSA. I did have to go elsewhere for the QLS bracket and fork.
  13. Just picked up an 8+1 (22") last weekend and being a 3Gun newbie...It is a great gun.
  14. Been here a little while picking people's brains and figured it was time. My first action shooting sport is/was CAS (Cowboy Action Shooting) and I've done that for a few (6-7) years and it is time to branch out a bit. I started doing IDPA / IPSC (whatever) last year and this year I'm going to start doing some 3Gun. I recently picked up a XDM 525 and a 930 JM Pro. The RRA ATH is on order (8+ weeks) and I have the ELS belt and attachments all scoped out. Going with Carbon Arms FSL and PinWheel so that is going to take some practice to learn the technique. I hope the AR is in before the Mill Creek Match next month. Your pard, KC aka Trey
  15. If you are going to mount on ELS, order with "None". We have most of the pieces, but have not filled the backorders yet. Running a match, so will have a bunch of stuff shipping out next week. Shotgun loading is about what works for you. Might have to try mixing loads techniques and see. If it does not work, a lot of guys are running a pinwheel with the FSL for thos quick loads or loads on the run. A newbie at 3Gun and don't know any other loading techniques so I am going to practice/learn the load 4 with FSL and the Pinwheel as they look to be the current best thing going. I will take your advice on getting the pinwheel rather than the 082. I am a pretty darn good Cowboy Shooter so I am not a total newb at the action shooting sports... Thanks for good advice.
  16. I am about to order a pair of FSL 12s and there are options listed for "attachment". I am going to put them on a Safariland ELS belt so do I order them without attachment options and screw on an ELS 34 fork on the back? Also the Carbon Arms website shows the FSL 12s on back order with a 4/15 due date...is that still true? Going to put a Safariland 082 on the left of the two 12s for loading 1 or 2 on the move. Smart idea or not? That puts me up to 36 rounds with the 8 in the 930 JM Pro.
  17. 44.7 Varget / 175 Sierra HPBT / Lapua brass gets sub-MOI out of my 22" 700 at 300 meters. YMMV
  18. Very nice setup. I am getting ready to order a belt (032)and under-belt (030) and wonder if I should order my exact waist size or a couple of inched bigger so there is some overlap...help.
  19. I put some items/quantities/costs to paper for a tricked out Safariland belt. All this is mentioned in the thread. Item 030 032 772 x 2 773 x 3 ELS-Kit-1-2-10 QLS Kit MME 4 round caddy x 4 APC 4x4 x 3 Holster Keepers x 3 Retail comes to $1,063 and add another $100 for shipping/tax and that is one expensive belt. I know that to compete you have to have the right gear and I'll probably get a little bit at a time. Let me know if I forgot anything important.
  20. Ditto on the XTR. The BDC is nice to have for sure. Now the mount. A Burris PEPR is $80 and a LaRue QD mount is over $200. I know the LaRue is worth the added bucks but do I really need it. I want to get Dueck Defense RTS (cool factor) so a QD mount is not a real need and the difference in mount price will buy half the DD RTS (which I have decided I need/want). Sorry for the thread creep.
  21. I would skip the off set irons as you don't need them 1x is faster. What is your budget. For under $500 look hard at the Burris 1-4 MTAC. The Vortex 1-4 HS is another option in that range. In the middle range price area the Meopta 1-4 is excellent as is the Trijicon TR24. For high prices the Swarovski Z6i can't be beat. Pat Looking to spend less than $750. I am eyeballing the 1-4x MTAC / mount / Fast Fire combo deal. My thought behind the DD RTS irons is the ability to have the variable set above 1x for stages with longer shots and still be able to acquire hozer targets with the irons. I am a noob so this is probably a noob idea so I'll save my money and start shooting and then make the decision. Another thing to keep in mind, if you add the Fast Fire you will be shooting open class. I have the MTAC and love it, at 1x it's just as fast as the Burris red dot I was running. Agreed on the Fast Fire causing a class bump and I don't need to play against the super fast guys...yet. It is a good deal on the combo pricing and I want to put the red dot on the top rail of my AK house gun. I've been reading a lot about 1-4X and it seems to me the MTAC is the best value going right now and I can't afford to get into the next tier of optics. I appreciate all the help you guys are giving me.

  23. Great info guys. You've convinced me to get a 1-4x or 1.5-6x and plan to mount Dueck Defense RTS irons. Now to wade into the decision of which variable....
  24. A real 3Gun noob here.... I just ordered a Rock River ATH and I am seriously looking at a Burris MTAC to go on it. One of my friends is into ARs and such but not into 3Gun shooting yet. He is trying to talk me into getting an EOTech with 3X magnifier (on a flip mount). I have read and read and read more posts on this forum and see very little talk about EOTechs and other red dot sights. Are most shooters using 1-4 or 1.5-6 variable scopes? Thanks.
