  1. They should shoot with Momma Massey again (Christie).... She shot really, really well! Ok our guy here will continue to train and get ready for a team that needs him. He would be a first timer but still A class material. he does not know that yet but he is doing real good. Jake P. is going to shoot with us again to make our third. El Presidente Jason Massey and Mike Massey need a 3rd man. both of Mikes sons are unavailable this year so give one of them a call.
  2. ALERT!!! May 20, 2011: Championship Hotel Group rates expiring VERY SOON!!! If you haven't made your reservations, then you need to call right away! We will lose many of the remaining rooms on THIS Monday morning (May 23rd), and Group Code: CAU is set to expire on 31 May!! Please spread the word to everyone you know who might be going to the Championships...
  3. So who ended up being y'alls third person? Carroll's team mate from last year, or someone else?
  4. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RB05LG <----- Amazon.com 10 each SR44 for 10.80 shipped. That's $2.16 per 1/3N equivalent.
  5. My first Life Membership was with USPSA; then NRA; then NSCA. I didn't become a Life Member of these organizations to save money. Shoot, I'm not even shooting USPSA right now... I bought Life Memberships because I think it is what you should do when you can for organizations you enjoy and support. While I agree that a payment plan might increase the number of Lifers, it does absolutely bring a bunch of hassle with it... Personally, I think folks should use their own "payment plan". Pay your installment to yourself until you have enough to pay in one installment. it's great practice in financial discipline.
  6. Be VERY careful with the bulk batteries available on eBay. A lot of them are seconds from China which have been know to rupture installed and uninstalled and generally making a mess. You can avoid some of the cost of 1/3 N batteries if you want, by stacking two LR44 or equivalent batteries. However, I am now using true SR44 batteries... Silver Oxide... they a re a bit more expensive than the LR44 but they last a lot longer and they have a nokinal voltage that is about 3.1vdc vs. 3.0vdc... a little brighter without danger of damage, and the SR44 is much better suited to the constant low-current drain of the C-More. If you must use the 1/3N, then find the multi-pack on Medic Batteries... it's like 6 or so in a round plastic container.... Duracells. it's the best deal i've ever found on the true name brand 1/3N
  7. sfinney - I'll put the word out that you are looking to put a team together.... As far as guns... You only need what you are going to shoot. I can assure you that if you don't have everything, that we can find gear for you to borrow. Gimme a call if you want and/or have questions. You should come no matter what... Have you ever been out to the Shootout? or to Clark Custom Guns? That's where the LA Regional is going to be held... They're bringing in the "official" travel set of steel targets and all the traps from Texas.... I helped them put it on 2 years ago when we had it split between the Shootout and the Air Force Base... Should be a lot more convenient with all 6 events at one place.
  8. Yep... crime is bad everywhere, but don't let that keep y'all away. Simply take your weapons into the hotel with you every night like we do. They aren't doing you any good in the car anyway! This year is shaping up to be a good year folks... I know we have at least three new teams forming here in North Louisiana and headed to Nationals. Can't wait...
  9. Where'd you get that magwell? Could you post a pic from below?
  10. You beat me to it Jec! Here are some updates... 1) The 2011 Entry Form is linked from the President's Message on the home/front page, and in the right column on the Nationals page. Here's a direct link to 2011 Entry Form for the Nationals. 2) They've posted Hotel Information on both the Home and Nationals pages. 3) I absolutely encourage everyone to go to as many of the Regional Competitions as you can possibly manage... Besides being a blast; besides meeting a bunch of really nice folks; besides getting to shoot; the Regionals provide the best opportunity to work out Team assignments, et al. and equally important.... TEST YOUR GEAR to make sure everything runs and works the way you intend it to function. You don't HAVE to shoot a Regional to shoot at the Nationals, but they surely do help you prepare. As Jec pointed out above, you can shoot a Regional in the following places: Dallas, TX; Branson, MO; Park City, KY; Stanton, TX; Princeton, LA; and Raton, NM (both Spring AND Fall) Check the Regional's link above for exact dates and contact information. Also... in addition to the 3-man Team Competition, you can also sign up in the 2-Man Team Competition. 2-Man has been experiencing a resurgence of interest over the last couple of years. AND, don't forget about the JUNIOR program... There are Junior, Sub-Junior A, and Sub-Junior B. If you have a Junior shooter, STCA has a place for them to shoot! AND, if that ain't enough for you yet... Check out the STCA Junior Scholarship! New Shooters? Afraid you don't have all the necessary equipment? STCA has a "loaner equipment program"! Shoot one of the STCA Officers an email to inquire: CONTACTS So you are thinking, great! But, I've NEVER HEARD of Sportsman's Team Challenge? Go HERE to check out descriptions of the six events. HOT NEWS!!! SPORTSMAN LADY Division is a Wide Open Free-For-All in 2011!!! *** Due to a recent rule change, it looks like at least two of the Sportsman Lady teams will be moving on to "greener pastures" in one of the other Sportsman classes... So spread the word! (Psssssstt... Guys... Pull on your "big-boy" pants and man-up! SPORTSMAN A Class just got a WHOLE LOT tougher! You better be practicing!! I can't wait!!!) Sportsman Team Challenge is a family shooting sport... EVERYONE can shoot... So, gather 'em all up and come down to San Antonio this year! Shoot for fun! Shoot for money and prizes! Shoot for BOTH! Got questions? Post here... If we can't answer the questions, we know the folks who'll have the answers!
  11. Diggin' the pipe insulation on the front edges of the bullet trays... Nice tweak.... cheap and effective. Will have to go grab me a stick from Lowes/HD on the next trip.
  12. Nice mods to the old NRMA design... I'm getting ready to build a second shelf row to go on both of mine too... second row will go all the way to w/in 1" of the ceiling. Haven't decided wheter to use swing doors, lift doors, or slides for the new row... I like that you've added the piano hinge swing doors on the bottom to close things up... I'm not sure I have that option though... I'm absolutely green with envy over your thicker solid wood top with slotted fixture bracket system... Great job!
  13. Awesome! Thanks Jamie! See you in a week or so...
  14. UPDATE!!! Lots of teams... Group Hotel Rates Forgot to post the info here, but there is a Group Code for Hotel accomodations at the Staybridge La Cantera. This is a really nice place and less than 2 years old... Really easy/quick access to the National Shooting Center too.... (important to have! Ask anyone who has dealt with morning traffic on the IH-10 and Loop 1604, etc. in San Antonio). The link to the hotel info is on the Home Page and the Nationals page. The deadline for the group rate was yesterday, BUT we talked them into extending it!!! Rooms are going fast though... Staying at the Staybridge, while not an "Official" match hotel WILL guarantee that you will bump into lots of STC shooters.... And they have a GREAT breakfast buffet... and they put out food and beverages for "social" time at least one time while we are there... Wed and/or Thursday evening? So far, we have something like 73 teams registered to shoot, the entries are still coming in, and we always have some pickup teams put together on site!! Looks like it's going to be another great year... Down economy? Not at STC Nationals!!! Sure would like to see some more ladies shooting!!! There are always a bunch of Ladies at the event.... so if you are going to be there... grab another person OR two and put a tema together. Don't have all the equipment? Folks... we can find some equipment for you to use! Contact me or Renee through this forum, or email one of the contacts on the STC website.... Jason Massey, Robet Massey, Mike Love, etc.... Come shoot! It's a blast!!
  15. Welcome to Brian's Forums! GREAT bunch of folks here... Come shoot with us at STCA in San Antonio!!! Still time to get registered and get a room, etc. Posting an update in the next post...
  16. They're coming around again, and I can't wait... June 11-13, 2010 are the actual competition days (Prelims on 11th and 12th, Championship/Finals on the 13th) June 9th and 10th are practice days on the steel and of course the shotgun courses. Most laid back shooting fun that can be had IMHO! 3-person and/or 2-person team event!! You get to shoot rimfire pistol, rimfire rifle, centerfire pistol and shotgun x3... Almost the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Homepage Nationals Page Entry Form If you've never shot this before, you should REALLY consider putting a team together and giving it a try... Cool trophies, some prizes, and they award cash to 1st-3rd in most classes. And there is a class for everyone... Give me or Renee a holler if you have any questions... There are some other folks on here that shoot it too...
  17. I can't speak to the "Steel Challenge" barrel, but between Renee and I, we have at least 5 barrels ranging from a factory steel sights, factory with an Aimpoint Comp, older Clark Custom w/ weaver cuts and C-more, and a couple of new Clark Custom with picatinny cuts and C-mores (1 plastic and 1 aluminum)... She switches barrels at STC Nationals between Combo and the Pistol event right on the line... The barrel change itself makes NO difference whatsoever... I've taken mine off and on tens of times to clean et al... and I've never had to re-zero. The design of the Model 41 specifically lends itself to switching barrels and barrel/optic combos.
  18. just <20K of metallic and about 15K shotgun.... Not NEARLY enough... In fact, I get the shakes every time I am reminded that we are that low... I'd be more comfortable with about 10x current levels...
  19. I use the 12" spikes available from Home Depot or similar... I add a little tweak to them though. About 1" below the spike head, I weld on a large washer... makes the spike look like a huge concrete form nail. Then you can drive the spike in to the washer level and still have the head fully available to extract the spike... Galvanized nails obviously resist corrosion better, but are more trouble to weld the washer on... With a little ingenuity, you can fabricate a really cool spike extractor that takes ALL the effort out of removing spikes, and eliminates the damage caused to stands/props by using them to wrench the spikes from the ground... Oh... and spiking tip... spikes driven into the ground at an angle will generally anchor better than those driven straight down...
  20. My Mom was admitted to the hospital last Thursday and diagnosed with a couple of blood clots in her pulmonary arteries and a "mass" in the upper lobe of her right lung. We (my family) have already prayed "in agreement" asking for a complete healing for my Mom for any and all ailments. The doctors have scheduled a bronchoscopy for sometime after noon today to "diagnose" the lung thing. I would appreciate it if as many as would be willing would join us in our agreement for our Mom's healing and to offer Thanks and Praise to the Lord for my Mom's return to full health. Thanks!
  21. Well... if I still had the eyes for a non-optic front sight, I could do that Doug, but I NEED that FO front... And, I like to know that I can sight the gun in wherever I need it... and adjust for different loads... If it wasn't a competition gun, i'd probably figure out a fixed sight combo...
  22. Note on the Dawson Adjustable target and optic sights on the M&P 40... On Dawson's website AND Speed Shooter Specialties, they specify a 0.265" tall front sight to pair with the adjustable rear.... 0.265" is NOT tall enough!!! I have a call and email into Dawson on this and have notified Kenny as well... Same thing happened when they introduced the adjustable for the Glock 35... It too required a taller front site. IF you use a 0.265" as recommended, you will achieve the following: Mechanically zeroed rear sight will produce a near head shot POI with a POA at the "A" on a Metric USPSA target at 25 yards. IF you turn the rear sight as far down as absolutely possible, you can ALMOST get a POI/POA convergence at 25 yards... Personally, I want my pistol to be POA/POI dead on at 25 yards with the rear sight at mechanical zero in elevation and windage... or as close to it as possible... Speaking of windage... If you have the DP adjustable centered in the dove tail (using a caliper), and you have it mechanically zeroed, you won't be more than 1 click off in windage... that's cool!
  23. Don't want a drop-in... Want a short chambered, smith-fit aftermarket barrel from one of the top makers...
  24. I learned a similar method for storing my socks and t-shirts in the Army some 25 years ago... Still roll my socks and T's that way till this day, and if you roll shirts and pants properly, they'll pack and carry without having wrinkles upon removal.
  25. Thanks a lot hitman!!! I had just gotten to the point that I could grit my teeth and not covet the better chairs....
