  1. Growth of all the shooting sports should be encouraged, especially with ladies and kids. Why? Because in reality they are dying! Trap is mostly dead, Bullseye dying, probably PPC, bowling pins etc. Action sports are the growth area because they are fun. But how many shooters are moving to CAS or IDPA and away from USPSA because they want a new form of fun? The shooting sports are expensive also. How many new shooters can afford to jump in and include the wife and kids too?

My personal suggestion is to encourage shooters to shoot Steel Challenge with a rimfire. You can involve the whole family, does not break the bank and it is a hoot! Grow your local Steel Challenge program and your club will benefit. Then those who want more fun, drag them over to a USPSA shoot.

  2. "Speed is good. Accuracy not so much."

While I am just a beginner, the "aim" of the sport is to get the hits and take the right amount of time doing it. I just finished reading Brian's book and am trying to incorporate some of the concepts myself. But by "slowing" down, I am getting the sight picture that I need to see, and my time, while compared to a master is bad, hangs in there with the middle of the pack. I have been concentrating on getting similar points as the stage winners, the time will come later.

    Get Brian's book!

  3. I picked up a Chiappa because it was pretty cheap on sale. It has shot very well for me. The trigger has a longer reset than my 1911 but you can't have it all for $200. It snaps into my kydex and has been a decent trainer...

Also you can't dry fire them.

  4. After trying the Dawson and Arrendondo base pads myself, buy the Dawson pads. Worlds ahead in fit and function. I am using the stock springs and stop filling at 19. 38 shots should be plenty, even for a poor shot like myself.

  5. You should replace the Mag catch from the plastic to metal. I was shooting a steel challenge with my P16 and on one of the later stages the mags just kept slipping out with recoil and requisite mag dump on the ground. Finally shaved enough off to have it not function. I dropped in one from Brownells for the wide body and it functions great.

  6. Of course the question always comes up, what would you choose for zombie eradication. I am curious if the penetration tests of the 22lr has been completed or if a minor/major PF load needs to be used. I think a 10/22 and Mark II (except for the slow mag changes) and the brick or two of ammo in a back pack would be the choice of arms.

  7. I have had mine for a month or two. I bought some Metalform mags and they work ok (what STI sends with the gun), I ordered an EGW mag release and am waiting on that. I am shooting 180 grain lead at 950 and had some hang ups on feeding the last match I shot during the last two stages. I think the lube, lead and tight chamber caught up with me, I need to run the bore snake thru between stages. I added a Fusion Chainlink mainspring housing/magwell and changed the grips. It really is a tight and accurate gun, I have been keeping it well lubed for the break in period and think it is a great gun.

  8. Looking for a gun for the wife and kids I was leaning to the Ruger as I have many Ruger guns, but liked the fit and feel of the Buckmark. It has performed very well and I am happy with the choice. FO front sight, 1911 type controls, accurate, great trigger out of the box, $300 from Sportsmans Warehouse (cheaper than my wholesale price).

  9. I installed a Fusion Chain link Mainspring and magwell combo. The magwell dovetails into the mainspring housing which is nice. The photo shows the mainspring housing on left and front strap on the right. I thought is dressed it up some too. The mainspring housing is more glossy than the frame.

Not enough posts to link the pic...

  10. My friend I shoot with started USPSA after shooting Bullseye for 2 years. When I watch him it is interesting to watch his target stare thru the draw and thru the target. I wish I could do the same. It is almost slow when watching but he is not slow. I should try to video it.
