  1. I am toying with the idea of selling my STI USPSA .40 SS gun. I did not want to post it for sale in the classified forum because this is one of those deals that i am only 50% sure i want to do sell it. My reasoning for maybe selling it is to fund a custom limited gun. I bought the gun last year when i was big into SS, (i did not want to spend thousands of $$ on limited gun, mags, new holster, and mag pouches) so i got it and had to go to the gunsmith (Tripp Research for their reliability package, they welded and re-cut feed ramp, and brought all other parts and aspects of the gun to their custom standards). While it was away i got an amazing deal on a entire limited rig. Since i got the SS gun back i have shot it only once, i am loving the limited game (my score jumped when i started shooting the 2011). But my question is if i were to sell the entire SS rig (STI USPSA .40, 5CR Speed mag pouches, Bladetech holster, 4 Tripp 10rnd 10mm system mags, 2 9rnd tripp cobra 10mm mags, and one willson combat 9rnd 10mm mag) do you think there will be an interest? Also would you keep it so you can shoot three divisions (Limited, L10, and SS) or get a second custom Limited gun and be able to shoot 2 divisions but have a seconds custom 2011? I am not looking for a "you should do this" answer i am just wanting opinions what other people would do if they where in this same situation. thanks
  2. I would like to give an update to my goal, that i posted earlier. Yesterday i shot a match and shot my first B class classifier. All i need is a few more.
  3. Tripp research has what they call Tripp system cobra mags. They are 10 rounds 40 or 10mm and fit in the SS box, barely but they fit
  4. I really only have one Goal. That is to make B class in Limited and SS. I am currently U in limited and D in SS. I am two scores away from getting classed a mid C in Limited, and need one more 45% to get my SS up to C. Now I am going to achieve that goal by, dry firing 10-15 min a day and live firing 3 times a month at practices or local matches.
  5. It is your preference in SS i have seen no big advantage difference between the two. I have 40 SS guns and love them. Some will work great out of the box as others do not. One of mine needed the feed ramp to be welded and re-cut. If you get a 40 then budget for needing to send it to a gunsmith for some tweaking about $150-$200. There are three reasons i chose the 40. First is cost, the price difference per round may be a few cents cheaper than the 45 but times that by a few thousand rounds and that adds up. Second i have a reloading setup for 40 and now i can reload for my SS and my limited gun without changing out die or buying another press. Third i broke my wrist several years ago when i shoot 100 rounds of 45 (even downloaded) my wrist just kills me afterwords. So i do not agree that they are "softer recoil" I will agree that they have a different recoil feel than the 40, that different feel is subjective if it is softer or not, for me it is not. So if you think you will ever get into limited get the 40. If you don't then just pick the caliber that you like the most.
  6. If you are going to shoot any USPSA SS division or L10 i would definitely choose the .40. If you were to get the .40 you would be able to shoot USPSA SS and L10 and score major. In SS you can shoot 10rounds of minor, but most stages lend itself to 8 shots fairly well. When i shoot L10 with a SS1911 i reload about the same number of times as i do in SS with 8 rounds, reload as you move, so the advantage of 10 rounds does not help much if you shoot minor. You can then download the 40 for IDPA to get a softer shooting round. If you where to get a one 1911 to fit all (USPSA SS, USPSA L10, and IDPA) then 40 is what i would get. If you are getting two gun then get one of each.
  7. Not to long ago (6 months) I had both. I sold the Trojan to fund a limited gun. I loved them both but I got to say the USPSA is a lot nicer. It has checkered front strap vs the STIpple, the checker really makes a big difference. Some people say put skate tape on the Trojan, but if you are like me I hare the idea of putting ugly skate tape on my good looking toys. Also the USPSA has a stainless slide and tri topped. The Finnish on the Trojan does not hold up well. Overall I say if you have the money and like to shoot a good looking gun go with USPSA hands down. If you do not have the money or you don't care about looks then get the Trojan.
  8. You can go to any farmer and ask if they have any old post you could buy. You could probably get them for under 5 bucks per post.
  9. I was having trouble posting the pic, as you can see i was able to get it posted.
  10. I thought i would share my poor farmers target stand. It is made from a old fence posts that i had on hand when i took down an old fence. One 6 ft post would make one stand, i ended up making 6 of them. The square tubing is from scrap that i had laying around. It took about 20 min per stand, so grand total was $.50 per stand. Post where free as they where junk, square tubing was free as they were scrap, i built these after work so my time was free, otherwise i would have been sitting on my couch. The only real cost was the welding material and it is hard to get the exact amount so i am guessing $.50, it did not take much to weld them.
  11. Just bought this gun from a friend. He never shoots limited so it just sat in the safe. It was built by Tripp Research. it is in super nice condition only had 3,000-4,000 rounds though it. This is my first limited gun let alone a 2011. I have been shooting a Trojan in .40. Now i know what a 2012 Ducati feels like compared 1990's Harley.
  12. I would go with Tripp. But are you planning to load a bit longer, if so get the 10 mm mags. I have one Wilson and am not a big fan of it.
  13. I just shot this morning with this new grip and it seems to work, I am going to order a stronger spring just to have on hand. I am actually able to control the recoil better with this new grip even though it is just a little change, but enough to get a bit better control. If the problem continues then i will replace with the stronger spring. Thanks for the input.
  14. I watch a you tube clip on grips, so I went home and realized that my support hand was way forward. So I adjusted it and hopefully this will work. I need to make sure the palm of my support hand makes a good weld on the gun grip and my shooting hand. I think this gives me enough clearance.
  15. I just purchased a 2011 from a friend the other day. I have been shooting a STI Trojan in the past. The new 2011 has an extended and light mag release. So when i shoot it every once and a while the mag drops out. It have found that it is my grip, the palm of me support hand is barely touching the release button. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should i try new a grip? If so what would be the correct grip, i don't want to have a bad technique? Should i get a stronger spring? One thing that i like about this mag button is that i do not have to shift the gun in my hand to reach the mag button, like i do with the trojan. I did not know if i should put this under the 1911 or technique forum. If i put it in the wrong i am sorry!
  16. I did not know what forum to put this under, so i chose this one. But does anyone know how Tripp Research is fairing the Bastrop Tx fires?

  20. Also my Trojan .40 will load anything in those trip mags.
  21. I took my new STI USPSA SS .40 to the range. On every mag the first bullet would nose dive and not feed, if I could get it to chamber then the rest in the mag would cycle just fine. I am using Tripp research 10 mm mags with the regular follower, I am also loading 180 Montana gold at am aol of 1.16. I had some factory loaded bullets that I put in the 10 mm mags and it was worse, but when I put them in the factory .40 mag that came with the gun they worked just fine no nose dive. I did find if I pushed the bullet closer to the feed ramp they loaded fine every time. What should I do. Should I load longer 1.18-1.2? Would different followers help? Is there any way to tune the mags? Any suggestions would help
  22. I have trip research system 10 mm mags. They are great, the system mags are 10 round that he plays with them so they fit the SS box.
  23. I talked to Dawson's Precision and they said they will get a shipment of .40 trojans in i think October. When i got my trojan .40 i had them put a Ambi safety and S&A magwell, i should have had them put on a FO sight as well. But i think it was an extra $200 or so. I would look at Thunder Mountain as i said earlier, they will do the install for free, as i had to pay for the install with Dawsons's.
  24. I love my sti Trojan .40 i have had zero problems with it. They can be a bit hard to find "in-stock" but usually the wait time is not bad. I have herd very good things about the spartain. Look at thunder mountain customs they have a spartain package that has some nice add ons, such as FO front sight,S&A magwell, they will do any gun smith labor for free you just pay for parts. Good deals and good price. I bought a STI USPSA SS from them last week, I revived it yesterday, they even did some smith work on it so fast turn around.
  25. Unfortunately it is .40 . I did not see any rules about caliber in the original bylaws on the first post, i chose .40 because of price.
