  1. Again, thanks for the responses. It's beginning to make more sense. And superdude, you're right. The detail on the super 38 page is nauseating, but good!
  2. Thanks for the responses and suggested links. Unfortunately, I've read most if not all of them. Hence, my search for more info. I guess the thing that is puzzling me most is the discrepancy in the information. As I said, one says to load as long as possible, while another says load short. For example, the Lyman's Handbook lists a maximum length of 1.169 for a 9mm, yet suggested OAL for a 115 gr. is 1.090. For 124 gr. it is 1.075. Many of the loads I've copied from experienced reloaders seem to hang around the 1.135 mark. Is there any particular reason? And yes, I am talking 9mm, primarily from a Glock 19. Thanks again for the responses!
  3. I'm a newcomer to reloading and have been reading everything, everywhere about various loads and combinations. One thing I can't figure out is how to determine the "best" OAL. One writer says to use the longest OAL possible, while another lists very short OAL's. Then there are those who say you just have to find the "best" OAL for your particular gun, while another said he called the bullet manufacturer to get their recommended OAL. So....how do YOU go about determining the OAL for your loads? I'm currently using Precision Delta 124 FMJ's and Montana Gold 115 FMJ's. Powder is either Titegroup or 231.
  4. I decided to go with the Leatherwood CMR. (Couldn't find a TAC 30 anywhere). Read some good reviews on it and ordered it from Optics Planet. Should arrive tomorrow and I'll take it to the range Thursday. I'll let you know what I think, IMHO of course.
  5. Does anyone know any good instructors in North Carolina? I mean something more than the usual CCW or Basic Pistol courses? I've done some Google searches that have turned up a few, but I know nothing about any of them and I don't want to just hand over several hundred $ to someone I know nothing about.
  6. I was using two loads: 124 gr. FMJ 3.8 TG 1.115 oal And... 147 gr. JHP 3.2 TG 1.115 oal
  7. I did a search for this, but couldn't find any pertinent info, so here goes. Went to the range today and shot 100 rds. of 9mm reloads and the muzzle of my G19 is covered with powder residue. Way more than normal. I was using minor loads of Titegroup. Is this normal for Titegroup, or is it an indicator of something wrong with my reloads?
  8. That's all I need to hear. Thanks guys! And thanks for not "chomping my butt."
  9. OK, newb here so I need some advice and opinions. I've just started shooting 3 gun and after my last match I've realized that I need some magnification on my AR. I'm currently running a Burris XTS 135 red dot sight and I'm thinking of swapping it out for either a Weaver V-3 or the Burris Tac 30. Opinions and advice will be appreciated.
  10. I'm new to the 3-gun scene, so I'm not very qualified to respond. However, I have used my VTAC 2-point sling to steady my rifle in competitions when it was appropriate.
  11. I'm in Durham. Where are y'all at?
  12. New to the forum this afternoon. Just started shooting in local 3-gun matches, and just started reloading. So, I'm hoping to pick up some good advice on both.
