  1. My technique for moving weak-side and reloading is to rotate the lower body and start moving, but keep my torso roughly downrange while performing the reload. Post reload, gun points immediately downrange, and the upper body rotates back to even w/ the lower body, and convert to "haul ass" mode.

I think this is a good starting point. Another thing to try that may require less coordination or tweaking/twisting of the body is that if you feel you must begin to move before the reload is done, do side steps while you are reloading instead of turning any part of your body. This way you are moving in the general direction that you want to go but still facing down range. Once the reload is done then "convert to "haul ass" mode."

  2. I've seen this happen twice to two different people shooting single stacks. I never heard what the final diagnosis was. I thought this would be a rare thing, but it starting to sound like it's not uncommon. Just another thing to worry about I guess ... I'm sure it won't take long before someone shooting glock will chime in with "this has never happened to me before :P "

  3. ... but not press through until the shot is ready.
I do this too but I ride the trigger. It helps me to have a little bit of pre-travel.
My split times actually slowed down over the course of the summer, yet my overall times sped up...go figure.
I've had this happen to me before. I bet if you checked your transition times they went down by at least half.
  4. I'm no professional gunsmith, but if I had your problem I would try one of or all three things:

    1. get new springs (but since it sounds like your whole aftec is new ...)

    2. shim the holes to give more spring tension

    3. find a good place to bend extractor between the hook and where the spring assembly start.

    good luck ...

  5. The group from last weekend talked about practice techniques and what can be done here and there to improve and what was done here and there that improved as of late, etc.
Being in the right squad with the right people is so important not just for improvement, but to the whole quality of the experience. It's hard to have enough energy to focus on the stage and shooting when you are using all your might to keep from strangling the range lawyers and refuse-to-helpers in a squad. Overly negative people suck ... they push themselves into the downward spiral and seem to take other people with them.
positive input = positive output and I want the latter.
    Good for you!

    ... I want this too :)

  6. Bowing to peer pressure and the abhorrent thought that my disturbing and gruesomely fascinating avatar could be causing computer problems, anxiety, loss of sleep and possible lasting trauma.....:D;)

No fair! I liked it. Although I did find it took more time for me to go through threads where you posted. Somehow I always ended up watching your avatar in its entirety before reading the text.

I vote to bring it back. Let us know what it was called so someone can start a poll. Otherwise I just title it:

"Bring back Merlin's computer man smashing himself to bits on his console, some parental guidance suggested due to graphic violence, avatar!"

  7. Thanks man, hope I can try your shorty when we're in Richmond.

I probably won't be able to make it out for a couple of weeks, but you're welcome to try it anytime. If you're still have problems with your gun we can take a look at it too.

Limcat shorty in 9mm, just got it last week.

    SWEEEEETTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well ... I got to go the range last night. The gun ran fine with the 9mm major loads that I already had. :) Now I just have to find some time to go out and chrono.

  8. It will not cycle completely even with the load that Johnny told me to use. Did you have this problem with the Dragoncat? What was your load with the .38 Super?

When I got the gun back after it was first turned into a shorty it was a single shot for about 40 rounds. After that it worked fine. It's probably a good idea to break the gun in.

I used 115 MG JHP's over 7625. This generated a lot of pressure. The primers looked like they had been spread into the pockets with a butter knife. It's probably best to stay with the 124's.

In order to go from super to super comp you will have to change the whole extractor since the hook for the super and super comp are different. Changing the springs in the aftec alone won't do it.

    I hope this helps.

  9. Very cool, will you have at Richmond this weekend? I'd love to take a closer look.

I assume a new barrel, but is it a new slide and comp or changes to the original pieces?

I have family coming in from out of town, so probably not unless I am able to sneak away.
