  1. Stupid rule in my opinion. Defensive shooting sport?? Currently, if you drop a point on anything but a swinger I think its a losing plan.
  2. Yep that's usually the way it works. Read Bob Bristers book, Shotgunning, the Art and the Science. It's all there.
  3. Buy ammo right now and go shoot. Talk to people and enjoy yourself, Your G19 is fine for now. You may choose a different road after meeting people and seeing all the cool guns at matches.
  4. If you have a good local library, look for books. My small town has lots of gunsmithing books. A video or two about trigger jobs and fitting a safety is a good start. If it's not for a business you can learn on your own. Lots on the internet. But if you have the cash, a fast course on building a gun would be great too.
  5. It depends on how many shells you need, and what your time is worth. I started reloaded them in 1984, for fun. But when I needed 300 shells for a monthly trap shoot I bought them. If you get serious, buy Remington STS, or Federal papers, or reload the equivalent. A MEC 9000g or H is great for speed. And a Spolar is the best. You just gotta figure the economics of it. Reloading a few for hunting or a round or two is cheap. But the time you spend doing it for competition is a different ballgame.
  6. This is 5/8". I wish it were thicker.
  7. Not my reloading bench, but it's stronger. Double 7/16" plywood.
  8. Spar Urethane is great for bare wood( 3 coats). Double up or get any solid scrap wood or door over 1 inch thick. One of my benches is thinner, and too springy.
  9. The scoring in IDPA is so ridiculous now I don't think it'll be easy to shoot both as it used to be. You can't afford to drop a single point. That plan in USPSA would not be wise.
  10. I would shoot Limited if I could. Free yourself up and to hell with counting. And definitely watch Ben's podcasts and use his training tools. Too much good info!
  11. The DPMS Oracle was on sale before I posted this with a mail in rebate that cut the total price to $324 I saw. i wish it was still going.
  12. I've gotta look at that DPMS. I'm gonna wait a bit to see if prices fall even more, Then I'll buy a cheap one and one more suited to competiion later. It can't hurt to have two lol.
  13. Oops. You're right. It needs to be moved.
  14. I looked at the M&P Sport. That may be the one I need. Are rifles like this built like the M4? I know it replaced the M16.
  15. Thanks for the advice! I guess to put it simple, I want the equivalent of a Glock 17. Iron sights, no comp, 18" barrel. And a twist to shoot surplus ammo and 55gr. bullets. I don't care about 600yd. matches.
  16. I've shot pistol sports for years. I know nothing about ARs. But everyone's got one. If you were buying it just to play with and maybe shoot a match for fun and didnt plan on 3 gun, what would you buy? I could add a trigger kit and scope later. I just think I need one.
  17. It needs a casefeeder soooo bad! And it would be too cool.
  18. A friend of mine has a Pro Chrono. It stays in his truck box and always works. How would you say the Chrony brand compares to the Pro Chrono? I just want to buy once and get good readings. And on a side note, I saw some GM's online that like the Pocket Pro II timer. I was all set on the CED7000. Now I'm not sure.
  19. If you have money to burn you can try anything. But if not, I would definitely try to shoot someone's carry optic gun, and hopefully borrow it for one match. I personally think this new division will be extremely popular for people with older eyes, or just shooters sick of iron sights. AND now they are talking about no more 10rd. limit? It's poor man's minor open.
  20. I think a 550 is like a 1911 and a Glock 17. Everybody needs at least one.
  21. I could consistently do 100 .45ACP mixed brass in in 9 min., going at a fast pace, on my SDB. Not 9mm though. I don't think I've broken 12 min. ever. And if I hit a few bad pieces in that mixed brass, it's even slower. That little case just dont suck the bullets in the bell like a .45
  22. Rustygun, that makes me sad. You need a Mark 7 lol
  23. I learned early on with the SDB that you ALWAYS keep a bullet in your left hand. As soon as you sit one in the case mouth, you grab another. If you don't, you'll waste lots of time. This is why I can't figure out how manual indexing could be faster.
  24. Comparing pistol calibers only, and no casefeeder, which do you think you can run faster consistently? I already have a SDB, and plan to buy a 550 regardless for many reasons, but I'd just like to hear some opinions.
  25. I meant to include sponsor appearances and personal instruction. But not to include a full time training academy job, or factory rep.
