  1. Yup Nemo thats the idea . . . no eight shooters for me. No one else ever thought of this?
  2. I'm thinking about moving to Open. Any advice? I've seen some sights for under $100. Could that be? Are any particularly better for a 625? Thoughts?
  3. I can only tell you one time I thought the "match" wasn't revolver friendly. RO made me shoot the entire match without switching the gun to my left hand. He said the technique came "to close to the 180". He was right though, I made my first reload too aggressive and brought the barrel up to high. He warned me "Do that again and your DQ'd". I shot the whole match using the other reload method, which wasn't a big deal at all. Now I can use either method just as fast. But "bothered" me a little. I do get a little concerned about swingers and such that are only visible for a second or two. It takes me a second to just pull the trigger twice. Doesn't leave much room for aiming time. LOL
  4. I agree. For me its a challenge to keep up with the bottomfeeders. I find it much easier to keep up with the bottomfeeders though than any other revolver shooter at the match (unless they are completly new). They always seem to be more thoughtful and experienced. Solving shooting problems with a revolver is like completing a Rubiks cube behind your back. I also really, really like the added attention I get at a match. You stand out a little. You can see a glint in EVERY new shooter out there (and I mean all the guys that show up at a match just to watch). They look at you and you see it in their eyes "If he can do it with THAT thing I can come out here with my gun too" I think we are the real magnets of the sport. I've never spoken to any potential shooter that looked at an Open gun with anything more than a quizical "Whats that?" face.
  5. The easiest way to find a lost spring is to grab a refrigerator magnet and sweep it through the floors and carpet
  6. Tony, Sorry, I already gave you too hard of a time. I don't want to dispute you. I don't feel handicapped with a revolver though. I usually only compete against other revolver shooters. Overall, I'm just ignorant on why its better to eliminate Divisions. I'm sure there is a logical reason but it hasn't really been addressed to my satisfaction yet. Its really such a fun sport, seems a shame to overlook obvious dramatic technical differences in guns. I look forward to adding a dot sight and competing in Open very soon. I'm still excited about beating my first Open shooter at my last match. That did take practice. Ofcourse they do have a lot of reasons why the gun won't work right. Hopefully they don't feel handicapped either. They can just focus on the high tech guns and pretend my little cylinder thingie isn't really a gun either. Were not technically in the same Division, yet. :-) But if participation is too low to keep a Division than I suppose thats just the way it is.
  7. I don't believe that autoloaders are well suited to a sport that has its roots in close combat gunfighting. But I'm willing to pretend the targets aren't shooting back while they clear a jam anyway. Because ultimately I'm here to support USPSA, not just my Division.
  8. I love all the stages, even the ones with moonclips on barrels, that one was one of the more memorable. I had a C Class Open shooter comment to me at this weekends match "Not very revolver friendly stage" after I beat him on the stage I said to him "maybe not so Open friendly either huh?"
  9. Have we decided where this meet is? If we turn out to only be 3% of the resturants business that hour will they still let us eat?
  10. Thanx, yes the 1911 is a .45 and ofcourse the 625 is also. I'll keep the guns for IDPA and maybe Singlestack. Just anticipating the likely rules changes in the future. No sense waiting till the last minute. Seems if not enough shooters show up there is a sudden impetus to eliminate entire Divisions. Waffling isn't in my nature.
  11. I'm interested in checking out IDPA. I normally compete with a Revolver in USPSA but that seems to be headed down the tubes. I have a Model 66, 625, and even a single stack 1911 which none of which are any good anymore for USPSA so I'm looking for IDPA suggestions. I understand though that I need some funky "approved" equipment for revolver shooting. What would that be? Moonclip/Speedloader holders for revolver of a specific brand? Or can I carry in a pocket? I can use a 1911 too, maybe that would be easier. Ideas?
  12. Seems like a good moment in time to check out IDPA. Maybe we could have like 20 different autoloading Divisions and fit revolver in there somewhere? I've got it, one Division! Any jam not cleared in under 5 seconds and you receive no points on the stage. That would atleast make it like real life . . . a little. Maybe I'll move to Open Division; mmmmmm how do I convince anyone that its a gun though? I don't want to move to Single Stack . . . thats Provisional? mmmmmmm So its Production or Limited maybe. Those have to be kept seperate for a while right? No maybe not, this propensity to stick all the guns in the same Division seems . . . somehow profitable. Nobody actually carries a Limited gun either. Does anyone really see any challenge is shooting an Open or Limited gun? Why not just move to the Laser/Airstrike Division and be done with it. Wait, maybe this sport has nothing to do with reality, well just the money part it looks like. OK, so Open is out as being silly. Nobody carries a .40 Limited in a holster all day. Revolver is headed out for some financial reason I can't understand, Single Stack is cool but may not last. Does that leave me with Production? OK, so now I have an important question. Whats with the stupid rule on mag/moonclips having to be behind the 3/9 line in Production. Do guys that make the rules just not understand what guns, equipment, and positions people actually use any of this stuff in? Ok, maybe another thread for that. Ok, so what Division does USPSA want to maintain and finds profitible? New shooters like me want to know. I want a Division that uses real guns using real methods after Revolver dies. Is that too much to ask or do I have to deal with IDPA? Surely, coming up with atleast one realistic Division besides Revolver can't be that hard? Or is the entire point to only have Divisions that support a specific, very expensive gun type? Ohhhhh, I get it now. Nevermind.
  13. Why bother having an Open Division? There is so little attendance. Can we just eliminate that instead? I know 12 years olds that can compete with an Open gun-no challenge at all. And it has nothing to do with the roots of the sport at all. Are we eliminating Divisions with low attendance now for a reason? Lets start with Open instead.
  14. I am considering showing up. Haven't decided yet. I'm at about 60%...LOL.
  15. I'd like to ask a related question. I was reviewing the Top 20 and am wondering why a 93% Production shooter is a GM and a 94% Revolver shooter is only a Master classification.
  16. I wanna chime in too, but I'm really new so please forgive my ignorance. Just take it as a grain of salt of what newbies are thinking. I think Jerry's scores shouldn't apply. Not because he is a "freak of nature" but because he is sponsored. He didn't get where he is at by sponsorship but the advantage he has at this point make his scores out of balance with anyone who is not sponsored. If any of us were to get sponsored tomorrow our classifier scores would skyrocket, from practice ammo alone. Yes, the other Divisions should also not quantify sponsored shooters. They should win all the money, but how are they a part of the "sport"? I'm still puzzled by the reasons I have heard that revolver shooters can't be scored against other revolver shooters. I'll just leave it as me not understanding that one at all. I'm still trying to understand if we are really compared to Limited shooters at 70%, or Limited -30%. I'm sure I must have it wrong. Its clear to me that the closest comparison you could make would be against Limited 10 at 60% (Limited 10 -40%) since we load exactly 60% of the ammo available to that Division. Factoring out that they reload much faster than we can and their guns absorbs more of the recoil produced per shot. Sorry, random ignorant thoughts of a newbie.
  17. Great advice Mr. Carmony, that last paragraph summarized my technique. I grab the stock hard and a little higher than natural and focus on "disconnecting" my trigger finger. I'm a beginner, so I keep it simple. But I really liked your reply. Thanx Good thread! btw, your younger than I imagined. :-)
  18. My 2 cents, thanx for the reloading help btw. I don't think its something to worry about. Flip the gun over enough to get the bullets and if desired (depending on load and conditions) powder out of the cylinders, then flip the gun downward to allow gravity to let the bullets drop in. The bullets need to move slightly during the process to "hit their center". Its important to use the opposing hand to get the new ammo in place above the cylinder the moment you get the chamber holes pointing downward. I may be wrong but I believe gravity should be used as a benefit and not a hinderance. Keep the gun close to the belt line/stomach area, not far out away from you body as these movements are a little more difficult away from you body. With practice the gun should be firing again before the moonclip hits the ground, not that you'd ever notice. I like the video too, but practice makes the process quick. I try to make the process faster by not breaking the 180 and trying to keep the movements clean. You can dump rounds early (before the gun is barrel up) and you can drop rounds in early (before the gun is barrel down). After that do whatever you can do to make the process faster, whether its "right" or not. Hi, Liota, long time no hear huh? VA is great!
  19. Got it! I'm makin' bullets. Woo hooooo! I had to clean out some parts, tighten stuff up, get a different bench, and spend the week "tuning it up", but I got it working. I think my last issue may be the bench not levelled properly. Once I got the priming system running things got better fast. After getting the parts replaced that weren't working I think my big mistake was testing the powder system without getting the priming system running first. Thanks guys for all you input. Amazingly, I needed ALL your input to get things going.
  20. Thanx for the support guys/ladies. I'll be taking a break from posting. I'm going to have a custom bench built to support this thing as I think that will help. Last night I noted for the 4th or 5th time that the primers are sliding down the tube with horrible resistance so I worked on cleaning the tube out. I can tell though I'm getting a lot closer to getting this thing running.
  21. Thanx! Yea I need to spend some time with it and get the feel of whats going on with this thing. From here I think the problems are with me.
  22. I'm in Fairfax VA. I spent another hour working on the priming system and it sure isn't reliable. Everything from the pickup tube to the holding tube gets screwed up. Every time I try it something different becomes the failure point. I was able to load about 10 rounds this morning in about 10 minutes. One round out of 10 failed to recieve a primer and I ended up with powder everywhere, but, technically it worked. I am checking the brass after the powder, but before I seat a bullet and loading one bullet at a time on the little merrygo round thingy (I don't think this press deserves any real technical jargon). I'll try again tonight. I think I'm close but those tubes are giving me fits. Green is pickup and red is drop in. ?????? The primers feel like they don't always want to fit down the tube. I'm puzzled.
  23. Actually I've been too depressed to mess with it much, I'm still at about 5 rounds an hour when I can get the primers to sortof work but I haven't tried messing with the adjustments yet. I'll probably spend some time with it this weekend.
  24. Things are slowly getting better. I've loaded 5 bullets now. I flipped the Strong mount base around and found a scratched out paint mark which I assume says "This side Up" ...LOL. Priming system is still screwed up but I can only fix one thing at a time. The powder system works well, atleast I can revel in that. The priming system looks broken in a few key function points, everything from loading the primer to seating. I've fixed the shell turner. Back at it tomorrow night.
  25. Thanx, I'll spend the night reading through the manuals again. The solutions from here, now that the parts are installed correctly should be workable.
