Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Picked up a new XD-M Bi-Tone last week. Put about 150 rounds through it and like it allot so far. I haven't played around with the different size grip backstraps too much, but the smallest (#1) seems to be the most comfortable for me. The stock sights are pretty nice, better than stock XD sights, but I wish they didnt' have the three dot configuration. The magazine release also seems a bit easier to hit than a regular XD. The trigger is better than a regular XD, not as much takeup or reset. The included hard case is nicer than expected, similar to some of the higher end Pelican styles. The stock paddle holster and double mag pouch are not bad either. Overall, a pretty nice package. I've called around for extra magazines and a holster. As I understand, magazines should be available pretty soon... maybe 2-3 weeks. Called over to Blade Tech and I was told maybe another 2-3 weeks as well, then I could place my order for a new holster. This should be a fun gun to shoot and hopefully there will be some +3 or +4 mag base pads to put it in Limited.
  2. Thanks all for the great info. I've been shooting production with Glocks and XDs, and just decided to try out the 226 for the heck of it... something different. Anyway, didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest regarding legality of the Navy model, etc. ... ooops! There are so many variations on the Sig models that it must be difficult to keep up on them all. Appreciate all of the input from everyone!
  3. I've just purchased a Sig 226 Navy Model for USPSA Production. Also picked up a Blade Tech Stingray holster and two double mag pouches, as well as three extra magazines. There is a link to IPSC production guns showing that the Navy model is not legal for production class. http://www.ipsc.org/proddiv.php Seems a bit silly since most of the current 226 models are basically the same, except for cosmetic, sights, grips, etc. (And there is the X-Five). The Elite series has a full beavertail and shorter trigger reset. The above link is probably old, and out of date. Anyway, I have yet to test fire my new 226 Navy at my local range. About a week or so ago, I decided to try a couple of 9mm rental guns (Sig 226 and SW MP9), and compare them to my XD 9 Tactical and Glock 34. The 226 has a higher bore axis than the Glock or SW MP, but seems to point so naturally. Also, the Sig 226 seems to be allot softer in recoil. The grip fills your hand completely, and the Sig's accuracy is amazing. The XD Tactical has a similar grip angle to the 1911 so it is fairly easy to transition from a 1911 based gun. I haven't had time to test my new Navy 226, but will be putting 500 rounds through it tomorrow for break in, etc. The Glock 34 has been great and easy to shoot, but I like trying new stuff all the time, so going to see how the Sig 226 works. Anyway, it would be great to hear any posts from Sig shooters and any advice, load info, problems, successes, etc regarding the 226 models.
  4. Sick! I had a chance to shoot one of Robbie's long slide guns during his steel class at Rio Salado in April. He gave me a a few magazines to put through it. Awesome! Trigger must have been 1 lb or less. He had the long slide top end on Kippi's frame. It looked well used, but way nicer than the pictures posted. The longer sight radius can fool you into thinking the gun is flipping more in recoil, but it isn't. If I remember correctly, Rob mentioned that the long slide has been lightened to equal the weight of his standard length limited gun. I've been in contact with the Springfield Custom shop, and building one of these guns will cost as much or more as most Open guns out there. Still, I'm tempted to get the project started... Maybe a bit of overtime at work will cover it. I've been wanting to have them build me a Limited gun for quite some time. (Anyone looking for an STI/SPS Limited gun package)? I will be selling it shortly. I understand that Springfield builds their own double stack frame. They are not Para frames. 8 months and close to four grand... I'd better start saving now!
  5. I've recently purchases a Rock River Arms Tactical Entry in 5.56 mm. I'd like to start reloading for the rifle but all I can find are the 55 grain bullets, or the heavier expensive Sierra match bullets. My rifle is a 1 in 9 twist and seems to prefer the 62 grain loads from Hunting Shack, Federal, and Winchester (If you can find them). There are several auctions on ebay for pulled military 62 grain bullets, but they are steel core, so that option won't work. I've heard that Montana Gold is working on a 55 grain bullet, but does anyone know where to buy lead core, boat tail, cannelured 62 grain bullets? Also, If I understand correctly, the 5.56 is .002 longer than the .223 and has a slightly different shoulder profile. Thanks to anyone out there who can help.
  6. Hello all revo shooters, I just got my Brownells trigger stone set, I've watched all three Jerry Miculek videos, and have just about completed my trigger job on my 625 5 inch. Man, the trigger rebound block needed tons of work (stoning) to get rid of the flat spots. If anyone has experience or insight into smoothing out 625 please share your info. All went well. I followed along with my stones and the JM video. One problem is... I lost the firing pin frame sping! *$&*#(*& FU)*)*! Now I'm a bit pissed, but only at myself for losing thins spring. Also, I purchased the JM mainspring and trigger block spring kit. I also purchased the extra long firing pin through Brownells ( .015 extra lengh I think) to prevent mis fires from light strikes. Has anyone tried this trigger job and JM spring kit? I also have the JM grips. I'm excited to try it out, but only after I find the firing pin spring... STUPID ME... CRAP
  7. Thanks again for the info. I picked up a new 625 5 inch today at my local fav gunshop along with some extra wilson moon clips. It was the only 625 in town and great price to boot. This will be my first revolver and I'm pretty excited about learning to shoot it in IPSC. Now, maybe a CR Speed or Blade Tech holster and some moon clip holders from California Competition works... Am I on the right track? Thanks again!
  8. I'm a bit late in getting into the conversation, but after reading the posts, I also would like to find a 5 inch JM PC model if there are any left out there. I called the S&W distributor who handles the JM PC version, Cam Four. They only have a few of the 4 Inch versions left, but did confirm that there were 5 inch models. Are you able to point us in the right direction as to whom we might contact to see if there are any more 5 inch JM PC guns floating around? I've just started IPSC this year and have been shooing Limited, L-10, and production. Revolver looks pretty cool so can't wait to give it a try.
  9. I just tested the following load today in my XD 40 Tactical: 3.6 grs N320 Montana Gold 180 Bullet WSP Primer 1.140 OAL, crimp .420 I haven't chrono'd this load yet, but I did have a couple of rounds that did not eject. It is possible that I was "limp wristing" the pistol. I'm using the stock 18lb spring, which has about 2500 rounds on it. Didn't chrono the load, but it was extremely accurate and soft. However, I'm going to try 4.0 grs of N320 and see if that is more reliable for cycling. I had been using 3.6 grains of CLAYS with the same specs as above, but is seems that CLAYS has a pressure spike, as I had two case failures last week. So, going to work on developing with N320 (since I have a couple pounds and I use it for my 45 ACP loads).
