  1. Just a banner??? I want a JUMBO-TRON WITH HIGLIGHTS being played in the backdrop!!!
  2. Linda, I can't imagine the grief you are feeling right now. While I only met Tim once, it was very apparent that you and he were soulmates. It is hard losing your best friend, and that is exactly what has happenned. I'm sure Tim is up there getting the match set-up for you so you have something to score when you (an we) go to join him someday. Cherish the times you spent together and remember him always as the love of your life. Your dedication to him as a wife spoke volumes about your love for him. Sincerest Condolences, Your Friend, Jeff LaFave
  3. Shot the 8- Stage Michigan Shotgun Championship today (Staff Shoot Day), and damn, am I tired!!! The match was awesome!!! Lots of cool props, unique stage designs, and an excellent challenge. <updated with results> Shotgun match finished up. Had 32 shooters, fun was had by all. Russell Phagan (Calvary Arms) and his dad were there, and will be there again for the multi-gun championship I'll post those results Monday. 4. I just gotta ask about this. I've asked about it from everybody that has posted it, and none have dared an answer (as a Range Official). Why...as a Range Official...would you want to inspect, and cull, a shooter's remaining ammo (for backwards/sideways primers) ? The obvious answer is that you believe that such ammo is unsafe. ?? I'll give you my answer as a range official --- CRO level. I'm not looking at the ammo for safety if it's just a backwards or sideways primer; I'm doing it to ensure that I (or another RO) won't have to stop the same competitor again for a round that sounds like but isn't a squib. I hate reshoots --- as a competitor they often bite me; as an RO they slow my stage or match down..... Bonus --- assuming it's a new shooter/volume reloader, it's a teaching opportunity while you're looking at ammo.... Nik nailed it here. Your first obligation as an RO/CRO is safety, then maintining consistency and/or fairness, and lastly to keep the match flowing (administratively). If I can save that next stage RO/CRO the possible issue of a reshoot by inspecting and culling what I believe might be UNSERVICEABLE AMMO from a competitors match ammo, then I will do it. I do not feel it to be UNSAFE, but rather a hinderance to the match, and I will do my best to keep things moving by getting it out of the match. This is NOT a safety issue, but an administrative issue in my opinion. I hope this clarifies my opinion on the issue. I do not think there is a "hole" in the rulebook. I would be hard-pressed to find an RM who would not rule in the fashion I have outlined in my previous posts. Thats why they get paid the big bucks!!!
  5. I will answer the question...It is NOT unsafe ammo. It is unserviceable. I (we) had this problem at the Targeting Education Match 2 years ago at Raccoon Hunters (PRH was the RM). The gentleman was shooting 45 ACP ammo in his single stack Kimber, and had what was thought to be a squib on a stage. Turns out, he had a backwards primer...he is warned and gets a reshoot AFTER he seperates the bad rounds at the RM's request, and then goes to the next stage where it happens again, this time for a lack of powder. Obviously, he was not a reloading genius. RM DQ's the AMMO from the match, and the competitor retires to the parking lot where I give him some GOOD 45ACP ammo that I reloaded. He goes back, and DOES NOT get a reshoot for the second time around, as there really was a squib. Bottom line is, that backwards, sideways primers are NOT unsafe ammo. They either go boom, or they don't, and the bullet does not come out of the case. THEREFORE, I would issue a reshoot if a sideways primer detonated, but was later found out to not have sent the bullet down the pipe or partially down the pipe as the case may be. Would I stop the shooter...HELL YES!!! But I would give him the reshoot. As much as it pains me to say this...I agree with George.
  6. It is with deep regret that I announce that we are cancelling the Ohio Sectional. We had a total of 70 shooters commit to the match, but it simply is not enough to make the venue feasible (we needed AT LEAST 100). After talking to the Ohio Sectional Coordinator (my Co-MD), the Statistician, and the Rangemaster, we have concluded that the match would lack the quality that is necessary to have a successful sectional. The compromises that would have had to be made would have left shooters feeling that they had just shot a beefed-up local match (embedded RO's, less set-up time, no shirts, etc...). We did not want there to be this lack of quality and have ourselves associated with a half-hearted attempt at a sectional. We simply needed more shooters to make this thing work, and the economy is apparently dictating otherwise (gas prices, ammo prices, etc). I urge those of you who wanted to see this sectional happen to start making your plans NOW for next year. You need to secure a range, procure RO's and get the ball rolling if you want to fill the event and make it feasible. I hope that we can see an Ohio Sectional next year, as I have always enjoyed attending them. We tried...that's all I can say. Now for the details. All monies will be sent back to those who paid for slots and/or T-shirts. You should be receiving them in the mail in the next 10 days. Fortunately, no shirts and plaques were ordered yet, so we do not have any real expenditures except for countless man/woman hours and now some postage. If anyone wants to step-up for next year, I have 9 excellent course designs you can have. It is unfortunate to have to do this, but hopefully it will serve as a wake-up call to everybody who has taken this event for granted all these years. A sectional is something that happens when the ENTIRE section participates and chips in to make it happen. We just had 135 shooters at the Michigan Sectional this past weekend, and it was a most-successful event. It was the result of a lot of hard work, and EVERYBODY in the section chipping-in. Not trying to rub things in...just deliver a message. PLEASE don't be complacent, and get it together, as I hope to see you all next year in Ohio!!! Thanks to everyone who stepped-up to try and make this happen!!! Jeff LaFave (now former) Co-MD
  7. Ohio is cancelled...You HAD your chance. Now its your turn to wait a year for redemption!!!
  8. Revised for accuracy...Steve, you can carry my bag anytime...BITCH.
  9. You need to quit doing your computer shpping at the Salvation Army Dropbox. I think you can beat that 7 minute record tommorrow if you are up on things, and have a runner waiting at the stage for that last shot and scoresheet. If not, its OK to be second best...we'll still "kinda" like you.
  10. Cause I'm just that damn good.... Haa Haa Haa If you were from SC they'd of been up an hour sooner!!! They would have been up an hour sooner if people had gotten done shooting an hour sooner. They were posted less than 30 minutes after last shot and that was with a slow as *&$^ internet connection so SHUT YER PIE HOLE!!!!!!!! hee hee hee Yes Dear... ...I believe "someone else's" record is 7 minutes...must've been a 23 minute Sprint card delay... PS Yer mean...
  11. Cause I'm just that damn good.... Haa Haa Haa If you were from SC they'd of been up an hour sooner!!!
  12. Just got back, and I had a really good time at the match. Had some gun problems early on, but got it rectified and finished strong(er). Lost a little ground on the first 3-4 stages though as the cylinder stop kept skipping past. Stages were very straight-forward, but had multiple solutions. Can't wait to see how Lefty 45, Cliff Walsh, Cheetahs, and 41mag do. They should be able to tear it up. Steve I and Z71 Commander shot good, but trashed some larger stages as well. I got lucky, as the ones I trashed were smaller stages. It was fun shooting with Sue and Sarah as well even though Sue went sub-minor. Must be a chrono conspiracy!!! All in all, a fun time, and I would reccommend Capital City to anyone who wants to shoot a good match...they do it right. The food was excellent too!!! Good luck to all the competitors this weekend, and I hope to be back next year!!!
  13. We are giving it through this weekend to see if we can snaggle some shooters from the MI sectional. Final call will be made Monday Can we cut it any closer for a go/no go? Waiting that close doesn't leave me enough time to request days off work and I don't want to waste them. Man, this sucks. Sorry I'm not the one making the call. I know. I'm not blaming anyone. Just saying, that's all. I'm squadded up and have that day off. I'd take a couple extra for travel but don't want to waste them and then have the match not happen, know what I mean? Oh well. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation. Sorry for the delay in deciding folks, but we are doing everything in our power to make this match a go. I have already decided that T-shirts are a no-go, as I needed a 3 week advance notice for our provider, and I was not going to purchase them and get stuck with them if the match didn't happen. If you purchased one, your money will be refunded. As for the match itself, we need Ohio shooters to support it. Judy, Flex and I will push it at our Michigan Sectional (which has over 130 competitors), and hopefully that will bolster the numbers a little. Bottom line is, that if this is to happen, YOU need to get on the phone or talk at the range, as not everyone who shoots USPSA is on this forum. I'll build it if you bring them. We'll give our final answer after this weekend. Jeff LaFave, Co-MD
  14. We're holding our own here at our club in Michigan. We used to get 50-60 shooters at our once-a-month match. Now we have to work twice as hard though, as we are doing two matches a month on seperate weekends and getting the same numbers with 25-30 attending each venue. Luckily, our multigun is going strong contributing 30-40 shooters a month as well. It is definitely not the hay days of the late 90's and early 2000's, but we'll take it. It does accelerate burnout though in your volunteer ranks if you don't get fresh blood involved. Fortunately, we have signed quite a few new members lately, and the fresh injection of people helps. The U, D, C, and B class shooter are the bread-and-butter of our sport and the local clubs, without them, we would only have about 25% of the attendance we currently enjoy.
  15. I've got this hilarious visual playing through my head where this poor sap opens his front door after a knock to be met with Flex's fist...knocking him out cold. Then a nice, fresh can of this shit being cracked open and being poured over his hapless body.
  16. That is true...you will be classified on or around the 15th of August. Jeff
  17. Happy B'day to El Presidente Emeritus!!!! Have a good one Pat!!!
  18. I think she's buck naked in that picture with MY GUN...Lucky a$$ gun...I'll never clean you again...yer a dirty, dirty gun.
  19. Hmmmm...That's odd...I didn't think Bill made it through any of those matches without DQ'ing... Did I say that out loud??? OH!!! The natives are really gettin' restless now...gotta love that Buckeye/Wolverine pride!!! Yep, Is Was and Ever will be...... the time you finish above me at a match Seems to me it happened in two of the above matches...
  20. Yea...where the hell is Moneypenny anyway? Haven't heard from that boy in a coons age!
  21. Just tell Andy and Barney you want your usual cell. Aunt Bee will make you a killer casserole in the morning...
  22. So, speaking of DQs, Jeff, do you know who your RO will be next Friday? Dear Inferior Woman, Hast thou forgotten thy place? I shall bring thee a stool to perch thyself on whilst you giveth me my foot massage between stages. Jeff Damn...I'm gonna need some Nomex and Kevlar for the sectional now!!! Jeff, do you know what this is? You are one cold-hearted b**ch Sue!!! That is just downright wrong!!! I'm scared now for you Steve, sleep with one eye open, you've got Loraina Bobbit sleeping next to you!!!
  23. Hmmmm...That's odd...I didn't think Bill made it through any of those matches without DQ'ing... Did I say that out loud??? OH!!! The natives are really gettin' restless now...gotta love that Buckeye/Wolverine pride!!!
  24. PRH had to put the brakes on me...I was gonna: 1) Have a start position with a huge inflatable Wolverine helmet that the shooter had to wear. 2) Make every "M" in the stage descriptions and walk-thru's a "Michigan Block M". 3) Hang a banner above the gate that said "Welcome to Michigan...We host our own Sectionals!" 4) Make the RO and competitor shirts Maize with Blue Lettering. 5) Kick off the match with a loudspeaker recording of "Hail to the Victors". 6) Have all maize and blue poppers. 7) Have U of M flags flying on all stages. PRH said that I would probably be shot, so I withdrew these proposals. Besides...Kyle is a better shot than me, and it just might have been worth the DQ to do me in!!!
